I don't really know which bike to buy....for me triumph and KTM group is a no go (triumph is too exotic and expensive as KTM).

I ve watched the US shootout (s), for them no doubt yamaha or ktm  is the best, and kawi one of the worst. but i am not convinced as there is no so mu.tch detail about their choice...

At contrary i read a french shootout, that do 2 differents ranking .One for "performance" (and ktm group is ahead cause it has best power), and one for weekend warrior and this time Honda and KAWI are in first line.

For them kawi, honda are very agile and great cornering bike. Kawi has linear power but stronger than honda. Yami is good but they said the motor is still a little bit brutal down low and has less power on top (even if it is more than previous gen).Chassis wise, fork a little bit stiff, agile , but less than honda and kawi.

So i ask if somenone has real experience on these bikes, as it seems that shootout coud be so different in result !

Ps : if you can  translate it or read french : https://fr.downmagaz.net/      (moto verte décembre 2024)

The bikes are all so close it comes down to the rider 100%. Shootout are semantics these days.

If you race and want to be competitive, buy a bike who's strengths match your weaknesses.

If you ride for fun, buy a bike that will put a smile on your face...

The Japanese bikes are all the same, just pick the best dealer with the best pricing….but…. deegans ride a yam, and the claw graphics would seal the deal for me….

If your weakness is turning, buy a Suzuki or a Honda, if your weakness is high speed stability buy a Yamaha or a Kawasaki.

I'm surprised Brian isn't selling graphics kits, and replica works parts.

I am also very curious to the OP's question.  I am trying to decide which to get my grandson. At heart, we have Honda roots.  He currently rides a gg 250f and gg125.  I'm done with the gasgas 250f  (just personal reasons).  The Kawi is the cheapest ($7100 otd) Honda next ($8300 otd), Yamaha ($9200) the Kawi is a 24 the other two are 25's.  He is mid-pack c class (these days that's pretty fast).

Does the Honda turn good enough to overcome its lack of power?  For his level do you guys thinks the Honda has enough power stock. (shootouts show dyno numbers of up to 3hp less than the competition) I have pretty much eliminated the Yamaha.  No deals on the 25 and cant hardly find a 24 anywhere.

The Honda has the cheapest and most readily available parts. It has quality hardware and the ergos are great.  Give us some insight guys.

Yamaha.  Or….look for a leftover Kawi with a rebate.   Spend the extra money on setting the suspension up for you.

And Brian deegan will call you every time a new episode of “ThE dEeGaNs” releases and ask you a bunch of super specific questions about the episode.

I wouldn't worry about peak power .Pretty much irrelevant at this point in his racing.

How about breaking this down to motor size?

Comparing performance between all of the engine sizes can really confuse things.

Reading the tea leaves it seems like the 25 kx250 took a step back compared to the 24. I don’t think you can realistically go wrong with any option. I’d have him sit on all of them and see what’s comfy. The yz is a great bike by all accounts but I’ve never gelled with the ergo’s.

ergos are #1 I believe. buy the bike you "feel" looks the part. the one you feel you would be fastest on. for me a Yamaha still too bulky and heavy looking (regardless of actual weight). The 25 CR would be my choice.

Yes, I got the same opinion reading the shootouts. So I'm referring to the 24 kx and the 25 model of both the CRF and yzf. Also, I'm only curious about 250f's. At 5'6 and 120 he needs the lightest bike ( he already a has a 23 gasgas 125). Thanks

Has he sat on any of them?  Given his size, age and weight I would lean towards the kx. It has the most adjustable ergos(peg height and bar position) so if he hits a growth spurt he can adjust the bike as he grows.

Yeah at 16 and shortness on his other side of the family I'd say he's already done. I was really gonna surprise him but I guess that's stupid with a $7k+ purchase.

For how much you save on the KX, I say go with that. Part prices should be similar I would think. I wouldn't worry about engine power or what the reviews say, everyone reacts to bikes differently. I think the KX turns just as good as any Honda I've ridden. I was in a similar situation a few years ago for myself and went with the Kawasaki because it was the closest dealer to me and was $2k cheaper. If you look into the engine tech and other features, the Kawasaki has pretty much everything the other manufacturers have. I'm impressed with my Kawasaki... Plus if your grandson is racing, then he'll get better contingency.

The kawi is still a good option because of the adjustability of the bars and pegs. Hard to say no to the Honda too. He’ll be fired up either way! Cool ass grandpa 😎

Certainly cooler than mine was. But to his defense he had 28 (from 10 kids of his own), I have 2! Little easier for me. Lol

i assume youre talking about 250's? Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki. Find the one that feels the bests because ergos are number 1, hard to argue with kawi ergos, theyre the best in the game. Kawi and honda have the best contingency as well.
