Every year Yamaha has a ride day at a few of our local tracks and it usually brings a lot guys out. It helps the local tracks and is for sure a more direct marketing strategy for Yamaha. Guys that are regulars at the track do spend money with OEMs, most people watching supercross on the couch just spend money on beer and never with an OEM and never support the local tracks.
Instead of paying millions of dollars to pro racers who don't grow the sport at all. Do like Yamaha and send the bikes on tour of local track maybe with a pro racer and show the race at the track. Go to 28 tracks one for each supercross and motocross. A day to ride a new bike chat with a pro and watch racing. That would pull a big gate fee for the local tracks and also help sell bikes better than paying Adam Cianciarulo 3 million to barely ever race and then talk about being depressed.
Any brand that would support my local track they have my business I dont care how the bike rides!
You started a whole thread over this after asking in the already dumb Pro Circuit LACR thread? Are you just trolling at this point?
OEM marketing money is better off at small tracks where people actually ride dirt bikes.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
You clearly have no clue about marketing.
Marketing what? Energy Drinks? Or you talking about dirt bikes? Last time I checked Yamaha doesn't sell an energy drink
Vital mx sells more dirtbikes than Adam Cincirilo and they wouldn't sell much without chickenlick raceway.
If AC gets the whole shot then fades through the pack for 3 million dollars I'm not buying a KX. If vital mx can tell me how it rides that the pipe mount no longer cracks and they liked it better than the CRF I might actually go buy one.
I would for sure go to a track called "Chickenlicks"
Lay off the Thanksgiving sauce bro
If Chickenlicks mx is the only track in a 3 hour radius you can complain about it at your home and play video games but I'll be at the track
Who's complaining ? I'm in , you had me at Chickenlicks
Gotta reach the masses. Not 15 people.
Plus they wont take on the liability.
For the millions of dollars that it costs to race Supercross they could reach a lot more than 15 real customers and also support the tracks that are almost essential to sell bikes.
I agree with you, take some of the marketing budget and spread it around to some tracks in a similar manner to contingency money. In Medellin, Colombia there is a Yamaha factory and they gave a portion of the land for an MX track. Yamaha doesn't provide any support money wise that I am aware of, and it isn't maintained to our standards, but it's better than most of the tracks down there.
I don't have a picture that captures it, but that large building right there has a massive Yamaha tuning fork logo on it. They build scooters and small street bikes here. The DT 175 2 smoker is one of the most prized street bikes and gets a lot of people excited about MX and Enduro. Colombia has an awesome motorcycle culture, 60% of the population rides as the primary mode of transport.
Wasn’t that Cartel country at some point?
Yamaha put on 3 Blu Cru races this year. I was at the Washougal event, and had to kind of drag the family to come with me. After that weekend my wife enjoyed it all so much that she wants to buy our son a newer Yz250f so that we can go again next year (even if it is not as close to home next year) and our son can race something better than his TTR.
So YES, marketing other than paying pro racers is also helpful to reach customers.
Pit Row
i cant imagine how a big corporate would run a mx track, i cant see it being as much fun as a private enthusiast
They don't necessarily have to run it, but chip in a little help. Provide a legal fund, help with insurance, anything is better than the mostly nothing they do now.
I know I’ve been in a lot of dealers with only a couple of MX bikes but packed full of quads and SxS’s.. that tells me they aren’t too worried about the local mx market. Plus I heard the margins on MX bikes suck.
In a perfect world these companies reinvest in their customers and products by continuing to support riding locations. Moto tracks and/or OHV Parks are the only reason people buy bikes so it’d be a shame if all of that went away for you…the company.
In a perfect world.
The OEMs and the AMA should be buying as much land as they can to provide riding spots. No where to ride, no bike sales…
