Back on topic!Quit bickering and go ride!

Just put on a PC pipe and went up a tooth on the rear to help with my altitude..  Will report back later

Dirtbikes are RAD.

Yeah I guess I should’ve been more specific! A MC300, I’m a +60 vet intermediate, 160 lb, coming off a 22kx450, just looking for something lighter & more fun to ride, easy to work on. But Gota have good Suspension!!!  Just don’t wanna buy a brand new bike then have to turn around and spend more money to get suspension fixed

If easy to work on and good suspension are your priorities, get a YZ250.   The first time you have to troubleshoot some electrical gremlin you will not be happy with a TBI bike.

Im 160 and ride A class moto.  This has been the best stock suspension for my weight since I last bought a yz125.

it was stiff for a few hours but really broke in nice.   Don’t let the first few hours scare you.   This bike is excellent.

I haven’t had any issues with mine but I only have 20hours on it..  But I’m an electronic tech for a living so I’m excited to tinker with it.
People felt the same way when 4strokes went fuel injected.   Now people would flip out if Honda put a carb on the new 2026 Honda 450.

Yes I agree, LOL and have thought about that too, it’s just that I’ve had so many YZ250’s through the years, I want something different!

Being 60+ I think you’d like the Ktm more than the yz. Even at 40 I love the e start, at first I hated to admit that but after two years with it I don’t even care, it’s just nice. I actually just rode a yz 250 again recently and that ride changed my mind on them, my previous experience had me not liking them, too much vibration and I just didn’t like the feel. The one I rode I did not like was a 23 and I think it was just the super rounded seat I didn’t like because I just rode a 2020 and really enjoyed my time on that bike. It’s just your classic hard hitting Good running two-stroke motor. That thing put a smile on my face. Then I hopped back on my 300 and realized how amazing it really is because it’s every bit as fun and still “two stroke” like the YZ but goes about it in such a smooth linear fashion. 300 is also noticeably faster than the yz and easier to ride. So being 60+ but still a faster rider I think you’ll love the smoother stronger 300 and of course the e start.

I had a 23 300 for 70 trouble free hours and am at 80 hours on my 24. My 23 went to a homie whose had no issues and there are also three of them in my riding group and not a single one of us has had any issues other than normal stuff. I actually did just have an “electrical issue” last ride….my kill switch shorted out. It’s the same as all the 23+ Ktm’s so it’s not a tbi bike issue. I guess this is an issue with water getting in them, I ordered the old school style replacement button. Took about 20 seconds to figure out and I just shared the start switch with my buddies 300 for the rest of the day.

Suspension imo is absolutely fine, you can race it bone stock for the life of the bike like my buddy does and put that thing in the top ten at mammoth in 30 pro. Or you can be a fool like me and spend $7k on cone valves before you even get your bike, it was set up way to soft for me so I had to send it back for a re do, meanwhile I rode a couple weeks on the stock stuff and loved it. If I didn’t have the money to spend I woulda been very pissed that I got the “good” stuff. Once race tech got me set up well, yes the good stuff is better, but 20 year old “poor me” coulda rode that stuff bone stock no problem at all.

The GasGas performed very well today.  PC pipe and 1 tooth up on the rear was an improvement.  Pc pulls a bit more on top but not a lot better than stock overall.  One tooth up on the rear sprocket  really helped with jumps right out of a corner.  This double is second gear on the pipe and it was a lot easier to hit from the inside today with the extra tooth.

I’m a front end first kinda lander in most cases but I had a decent over jump today and landed rear first.  The forks did feel a bit harsh on initial impact and I bottomed pretty hard.  Even got a little tire rub.   But to be fair I overshot the jump to flat and it took it pretty well considering the situation. Same here, just hit 75 hours, zero issues. Great bike, grip it and rip it.

This happened to my KTM 300 XC at about 80 hours  no warning what so ever. I still have no idea what caused it.

Yes. Shit luck I guess because it happened about halfway through a harescramble race. I already had the parts to rebuild the top end after the race because KTM recommends 80 hours. I ended up rebuilding the bike and replacing the injectors, oil pump, fuel filters etc.

That’s a one off for the moment.

No one makes a regular production 350 smoker.

Beta have said it will be sold, in the time frame I mentioned.

I well remember when Beta were developing their 250 and 300 2ts (and, Sherco, for that matter) where so many internet pundits said they would never bring them to market, as there was no demand for them...........

Beta will sell every one they make - my hope is that other manufacturers will also do more than just a squared up (that's what most 300s are) 250. I find it laughable when  300s ( don't get me wrong, they are fantastic machines) are referred to as 'Big Bores'.  As I always say, a 350 / 400 / 450 Modern 2t would be damned near the perfect bike.

If 350 2 stroke comes to market it would probably just be flat track/ supermoto model. I can't see how a 350 2 stroke would be better than 300 for enduro or motocross.

Don't know if I would trust the connecting rod after that?

Unfortunately even new YZs get bit by the occasional bad kill switch.

I ended up sending the cylinder out to Power Seal USA to be replated and replaced the piston with a Vertex.

Back of the piston hitting is quite common on the 300s, removing 2mm of material of the rear skirt is all that is needed to stop it from happening.

Check your piston skirt to crank clearance before you assemble.

I think Wiseco came out with a new piston as well that was 2mm shorter.

I wanted a new ktm 2 stroke but didn't want to deal with electrical or powervalve gremlins. Selling my carbed 23 250. Ended up getting a sweet deal on a 24 GG 350. I might go back to a 2 stroke in a few years once the issues get sorted out.
