So after his stelar performance at Hangtown this year, the Super Rookie has been finishing further and further back in the field every moto. The 8th moto of the 250F series (2nd moto this weekend), he finished more that 2 minutes behind the winner. So now what? Is this where he should be finishing (making the Hangtown win a fluke)?

Funny how this board blew up with new ELI TOMAC threads every 5 minutes and now no one even speaks of the kid. After Hangtown Tomac was better that James Stewart when he was a Rookie and I heard how fit the kid was and when it gets rougher and hotter, Tomac will even get faster. Well, that ended the very next weekend and he's been going down hill since.

Pretty amazing how a few moto's brings everything into prospective and weeds out the weak links.

What's your thoughts on his performances this year?

Your performance in the English language is a D-. That would be a fail.

Tomac is a rookie. Give him his rookie year.

Maybe he is nursing an injury that he does not want to reveal. Who knows but Eli and his team and why does it matter to anyone but them?

I think with this being his first year, he's had some stellar performances and has made some mistakes that he can learn from as the series goes on and heading into next year. But, he's definitely built a strong foundation to work off of.

He was totally prepared and ready at Hangtown while everyone else was coming off 5 months of SX. Right now Eli is learning how tough it is in the pro class, especially when you do not get good starts. Barcia did the same last year, started on fire and quickly fell back before rebounding towards the end of the season. Tomac will bounce back.

OK OK, all you picked up was my how I wrote this thread?

I would have given him a Rookie year until people through him up on pedestal and started praising him as the next big thing.

Do you remember Rookie years of RC and James Stewart? They didn't just win the first race and then slide back in the field. They won and won, again and again.

Yeah what I've noticed the most is how slow he gets towards the end of these motos. His times seem to drop off more then 10 sec a moto. Which to anyone watching would mean he's not in that great of shape. which is surprising because like you said casemark when he was first introduced everyone was saying he's a training nut. Today his first moto times went from 2:02 down to 2:12's.. (i'm not counting the last cruising lap of 2:14).. Then in moto 2 his times went from a mediocre 2:06 fast lap down to 2:17's.. ... 2nd moto high point(not listing moto 1 because of the rain) his times went from 2:23 to 2:36's..

Not bad mouthing the kid. He is just a rookie an all. All I'm saying is it seems to me his #1 issue is his fitness. It seems like Hangtown was just one of those days where rookie adrenaline caried him through the day and that has since warn off.

I think Tomac is trying to get his groove. Let them go and ride your own race. Lots of pressure on that kid and maybe there backing it down a notch to relieve some of the stress!

He is going to be very good. Had a great start on the first moto today and was really riding aggresive. His stamina appears to be a problem and I am sure that will get better.

He's a rookie in the pro class. You expected him to decimate the field first year?

Tomac is having a great outdoor series. The 250F field is deep. This class is not a bullshit class. IMO the 3rd-10th place riders in the 250F class is deeper and faster than the 3rd-10th in the 450 class. Tomac is a badass.

A lot longer than you would think and it can affect you for years to come. Once you get over heated, it is easier to get over heated again.

Exactly.

I also think he is learning. Not racing 20 min motos anymore. Once he learns how hard he can push and still finish the race he will move up again.

I am glad to see someone on this board has some common sense.

It could be a while before he's up to speed again.
Ditto on Canard.

Agree on the heat exhaustion issue. I don't think fitness is an issue. Rookies tend to have more mental issues(read concentration and tactics) than stamina problems. He will do good...seems to have good people behind him.

X2... If people haven't actually had a case of this they wouldn't understand. I got it a few years back working on some hvac stuff in an attic through the summer. Got so hot I fainted... Took me a year to be able to handle heat well again!

Trent you hit the nail on the head...I helped my brother roof his house last summer. It was over 100 degrees and I got sick as hell. It's almost a year and I still don't feel 100%. Course I'm old and a 2 week old banana is in better shape.Blush
