Damn.
Hunter Clements is one of the newest riders on the circuit. Here is a paragraph from SteveS:
"Hunter Clements is going to make it to Budds Creek this weekend because a bunch of guys on the Missouri State MX Series forum found out they couldn't get him there (neither parent could get off, nobody could take him) and they hadn't budgeted for it. People came up with the money, contacted ProMotoFan.com and secured some gas money, and someone volunteered to take him. Then it came down to whether his mechanic could get off work on his first week at a new job--and he did! MXSports approved a late entry and he's going to be able to get there.

If that isn't making it to the race by the skin of your teeth...."

Hunter's Mom's update says they are getting towed to a body shop now and working on something to rent....it all makes for great bench racing stories...but "unlicensed" deer should not be allowed on highways without the proper gear!

Thats a great story. It sounds like he should be considered for the privateer award.

For sure! Considering he was only supposed to be able to make it to 3 or 4 races all year and that he has done so good at the two he has done so far, I'd say it's going pretty well!

If anyone lives near there and can help out, they are holding down the fort at Jolly Pirate donuts and are getting the RV towed in. Maybe to Interstate Ford.

Maybe we should track the dollar value of this little privateer trip to be used as just one extreme example of the TRUE costs of hitting the road on your own.

Hopefully, the locals will understand the importance and do everything they can for this tiny team.

Good luck guys. Keep track of the bills and let us know if the winnings cover the costs. (very tongue in cheek)

Spread the word. MXer in trouble. Get some people off their asses and get the kid to the track.

Wouldn't this be a top contender for that Privateer award money from the club ?

For sure, the kid is 16, qualified and scored points in his first ever national, then last week got another top 25 overall after having to come back from 39th to 24th in the 2nd moto. By the way, box van rental for the trip will be $680 and that's on top of fixing a borrowed motorhome and all expenses this weekend to race. It will be hard to find a more deserving rider. I bet he rides even harder this weekend, the kid has tremendous heart.

chase - regarding the expenses, they've also lost their sleeping quarters, so now they'll have to make alternate (read expensive) arrangements.

Not gonna turn back now, but this really sucks for them and, no matter how he tries to shake it off, it's a distraction for Hunter.

If anything good comes from it, let's hope it's that he gets the extra attention and maybe some $$$ help from someone (possibly one of our industry lurkers).

Again, good luck "team underdog".

Don't know the kid or family but I will be rooting for him this weekend.

Check out our local race series forum and you will see they are rallying to get money together for the family. Even RacerX has posted to help Hunter out. Hunter won't let this be a distraction, you could find them camping out in a tent at our local series, he knows what he is there for. He will miss having a place to cool off between qualifying and races, hopefully someone will step up and help out with that. At least he is going to make it to the race.

No matter how it turns out for this kid, I think he deserves some air time. All the bullshit stories they give us during the race, you know Erin dropping rocks in dudes line, brothers talking about how competitive they are with one another, the crap nobody cares about..

Talking to a real privateer would do wonders for public image of the sport.

Calling it now, GET THIS KID SOME AIR TIME!!! Don't wait and see how his race goes before they decide to run it...

Hunter is a good friend of mine and a great young man. A real class act and great influence on our local youth riders.. He more than deserves some good exposure

Hey Gibby talk to Erin about doing a piece on Huntern, they like stories like this.

Power to the privateer. Smash em!
