[quote:37zly815]On a side note, Jay does not have any medical insurance. The costs of hospitals, medicine, transportation, etc is a huge strain on the family, and this website has been designed to accepts any donations that people are willing to give to help the Justice family. Please see the bottom of the page for information on how you can donate.[/quote:37zly815]

While I am sorry all this happened and sincerely hope both will be OK, it seems to me some poor priorities to spend all that money on racing, own a motorhome, all the money to go to races and not have any personal health insurance.

This is bad.
This family is now financially screwed. Even with donations they'll never be close to covering his medical bills out of pocket
I hope someone out there picks up on this thread and realizes that they need to skip a race or two (or more) and use that money on insurance.

I've been in situations without insurance, I did not ride during that time. Insurance should be a priority for anyone who participates in this fun but very dangerous sport.

My son suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury at the end of December. So far the bill is up over $150,000. I don't know where we would be if I had no insurance.

I can't believe anyone would even attempt motocross without some type of coverage. Hope everything works out of course, but there are going to be some big consequences here for deciding to ride, regardless of insurance.

This is sad, and it is going to suck for them financial. Unless you are independently wealthy, you need to have insurance if you are going to ride /race. A 4-day stay in the hospital last year from a fall was over 30K and that was with no surgery. Now imagine the cost of having two members of your family in there plus the air-ambulance transport. I really feel bad for them, and hope they heal up ok, but Flarider is right, somewhere along the line someone’s priorities got mixed up. Hopefully others will learn from this. Even if only one of them is not covered it is still going to hurt financial.

One thing I'll say about G-man he put the scooters on the back burner while he was without insurance.

This is very important guy's , Family priorities must prevail when it comes to these type things.

Not only do you need health insurance, but also a disability policy is a good idea as well. I hope the best for both of the Justices.

Thanks Jay, but I must add I still rode trails on my KTM, just stayed off the track for a yr..... Also while it wasn't "Health Insurance" it was some sort of "Discount Plan" that I had at the time actually for about 2 1/2 yrs. The more I thought about it the more concerned I got. So I called them up and asked about Emergency's. They said "we will [b:23cde7gm]TRY TO NEGOTIATE [/b:23cde7gm]a discounted rate for you".... Key word "[b:23cde7gm]TRY[/b:23cde7gm]." That was enough to convince me to stay off the track and I eventually got some Health Ins on my own around November 07. Had my first race in a yr just last w/e and had a BLAST!

I wonder if it's safe to do a RACE REPORT (are those still done around here), or will the usual BS follow..... lol

I have health , long term disability and extra life insurance. I wouldn't ride if I didn't. It's too bad for these folks and I feel bad for them but if you can buy an RV you should be able to buy a policy.

Monthly payments are about the same.

I used to ride w/o insurance. Once I busted my chin open and went to the ER with my gear on and said I didn't have ID, then gave them a fake name and address. I got my 19 stitches and a bunch of x-rays on the house. I did the same thing not long after when I broke my hand riding. Yes, it was stupid and I was lucky it wasn't worse. Lessons learned. <img class= " title="Smile">

You seriously got away with that? I have insurance and I got injured (non moto) after I had just gotten a new policy. I didn't think I had a policy long enough for them to pay. My mom went to the hospital and I told her not to go in with me. She was confused and asked why. I told her that I was going to tell them that I was an illegal and had no ID. She flipped. I was dead serious I was going to do it. After watching Lou Dobbs I figured thier co pay would be better then mine. She then started into the whole thing about how that was fraud and how I'd go to jail ect. and how I would get caught. She talked me out of it, well blew my cover right off the bat. I often wondered if I would be eating bread and water if I had done that. It would have saved me around $5G if it would have worked. Thats for sure.

No, we're all paying for your stitches in a way.

the track will get sued by the hospital and the family wont be able to stop it.

Odd turn of events as far as the website listed for the Justices and donations. Several other website forums
have been contacted to remove the link at the request of the family with no specific reasons given? So who knows what is really the low down here.

But you are right there are always priorities, and one is to have your family covered with health ins. And if for whatever reason you are without health ins, perhaps you should take a break from riding until you can get health ins in place.

In the meantime our thoughts and prayers go out to this family.

good for gary c. smart no doubt, I have the best health insurance there is and I still am afraid of getting hurt, missing work and not being able to take care of my family. How can the kid have insurance but the dad doesn't? seems kinda weird...hope the dad makes it out ok no doubt. nothing you can say in these instances really...insurance or not

I hate to say anything bad since they are going through an awful time but that is just foolish.
Five figures a year minimum to race at the national am level but no money for insurance.

On another point;
How can you even race without proof of insurance?
Most if not all orgs here in New England require that you show an insurance card before they will let you on the track.

Well as of now I have no insurance, when I lost my job and COBRA ran out NOONE will pick me up due to a pre-exsisting condition. I have been off the bike for a year due to this, along with snowboarding, skiing, even pick up basketball for fear of blowing out a knee.

Its against the law to deny coverage for a pre condition. Get a lawyer to send a letter to the ins. company and you will get coverage. You may get a higher rate but they cannot deny coverage. Been there done that. Twice.

What state you in Gardner? I am wondering if the law is state by state or what. I have letters from BCBS and such just stating my application was denied, they did not even offer a higher rate.

[i:aaszuch3]A lot [/i:aaszuch3]of people in this country don't have health insurance! It's incredibly judgemental, not to mention insensitive, to even insinuate that this family was foolish. Even with insurance they're still screwed. And, yeah, well, the hospital might sue the track, but then had Mr. Justice had insurance, then I'm pretty sure his insurance company would be the one suing.

Jay, Hayden, Stacey and sisters, uncles, grandparents, in-laws, out-laws <img class= " title="Laughing"> this family, if you have never had the opportunity to visit with them at the track, is an amazing group of people. They are a wonderful moto family. And they need our help.

If nothing else, they are in a hospital, 1000 miles from home. They need our help.
