Love that Hunter is showing his personality more and more. He seems very comfortable with himself is pretty funny at times. Can't help but root for that guy

Eli looks unusually stoked for this event.  Lots of emotion and that's not usually what you get from him.

I agree, the vibe from team USA is very good. I hope they can relax and get a couple good nights of sleep

Dig it when Eli has a little swag. Always wondered how the riders adapt to the time changes. Have the US guys been changing their sleeping habits these past two weeks?

I don't know shit but it would seem like the MXGP guys have  an advantage in the sleep dept.

Every now and then I go and rewatch Justin Cooper's vlog from that race and I laugh every time, I wish fans were abled to be treated to this version of eli more often. Favorite part of the celebration was when the honda guy told him to stop revving the bike, he looked at honda guy, and revved the bike again, it was funny.

Him pulling tear offs while taking a beer shower and revving the bike was the funniest shit and definitely not what I expected to see from Tomac lol.

It's so lame they pick starting spots this way every year.  Just do it off practice times for each class.  It's dumb to make some of the fastest riders have a horrible gate pick for a short 20 minute qualifying race.

Each class should pick gates for the qualifications race  based on how their individual practices times.  It would be such a better system.   Especially since most gp/fim tracks give huge advantages to some gates over the other.

I told my mom about the way they do gate pick order, and she doesn’t even watch moto or into it like i am, i show her highlights from the races, and she said she thinks it’s fair. How else would you want it done? Don’t say ping pong balls because they already do that basically.

I said based off practice times for each individual class.

No reason not to get to see roczen battle up front because he got 36th gate pick.   Guess I'm a merit kind of guy and like to see the fastest guys get an equal chance to battle based on abilities and not get screwed by something they have no control over.

The ballot is unique, but it’s been done this way for a while now.

I might prefer it based on practice times, but even then I would want it to be different.  Like best 3 consecutive laps, or the average of 3 best laps.  Not just a single heater.

But I’m fine with it as it is.

Are there practice times?

Question that has probably been answered somewhere at some point?

Why is the lottery system used to determine gate picks?  Why don't they use qualifying times so that qualifying times are considered to be of more importance?  Lottery just seems too random for an important race.  Can't think of any other type of racing where the starting grid position is based off a lottery.

Edit...just saw that someone else mentioned the same thing about the lottery and folks seem to like the lottery for some reason. Not sure why?

Euros have the sleep, track knowledge, works bikes, fuel advantage. The USA bikes showed up yesterday? And we have Plessinger? Who stated after his poor performance in his second moto his last appearance at this race (paraphrase) "My bike wasn't set up well and I already knew we lost...." Fun guy, awesome father, friend, husband, son, fast rider, sure. Cut throat competitor .... not really. His three previous appearances have been moto vacations for him, laid back to a fault.

Saturday is qualifying, where teams not only earn a place in the final races, but also earn their gate picks for every final moto on Sunday.

The first place qualifying team gets gate picks 1 and 21 for the final motos Sunday, second place qualifying team gets gate picks 2 and 22, and so on.

It's to encourage the smaller teams to make the effort to participate by giving them a bit more of a shot of making the A final and it works.

It helps preserve the global uniqueness of the event. Base qualification race gate picks from practice times and it just becomes another race and we already have enough of those.

They should drop this random lottery system altogether and do something like the following...

Split each class in 2, and give each class a qualifying race, like a 250A and a 250B qualifying race. Then combine the times to get the overall qualifying time per class. At least with half a gate everybody gets a much fairer shot at the start.

The gate order for the A and B qualifiers would be based on the lowest plate number first (previous years results)

Looks like  8:30am Pacific is the start time for the first qualifying race tomorrow? MXGP class?

I'm locked and loaded, spent the $$$ to watch.

I got these from racer x either today or yesterday, are these correct? I only plan on waking up for the open quali race.
