Alpinestar Tech 10 modifications

I'm pretty sure You can get a laced bootie from one of the road racing boots. Its been posted about on here before. And I've seen them  in the Alpinestars catalogs/website. 

Mr. clean magic erasers are good for cleaning up black marks and not scuffing stuff up.  Some customers will soak their boots with SC-1 or a silicone spray when new to help them repel dirt and water.

I used to have a local Cobbler ( person that makes and repairs shoes incase I spelt that wrong or You do not know what one is) that would repair MX boots. Mostly the vinyl and rubber parts though. If You have a local guy there is a good chance they may have experience with MX boots.  The place I used started to have more and more MX boots in there and less regular shoes. These days its harder to find  a cobbler.  

 Long term durability is not  what tech10's are known for.  They are one of the quicker wearing boots out of the high end brands. Most people wear them because of the protection and comfort. And deal with the shorter lifespan by buying a fresh pair more often.  I have only worn Alpinestars boots for my entire adult life. And I love them.  But the customers of mine that ride a lot and wear them, often buy a couple pairs per season.   Guys that wear Gearne seem to get much more time out of them.  I've had some customers try the Gearne SG12  and go back to the Tech 10's and I have some that have worn Gearne for many years. I'll be intrested to see if people have any mods for making them last longer.    

I modified my Tech-10s that were getting chewed up by my footpegs by throwing them away and buying SG-12s.  Problem solved.

The nice thing about the Tech 10's is the inner boot. You can modify, or replace the boot with a custom one also. Depending on what your looking to achieve it gives you way more options than a non bootie boot.

I went from sg12's to tech 7s and really enjoy them. More feel and motion, probably less protection. The Alpinestars have a shoe level feeling with boot level protection. I have nothing against either company but i love my tech 7s. I am aware this is a tech 10 thread.

The Acerbis frame guards have a rubberized plastic material that provides grip. The rubberized plastic is softer than your boots so it won't wear into your boots. 

If you run these just make sure to pull them every few rides and clean underneath them. I went a season with them on full time and my frame looked FUBAR when I yanked them in the winter and since I haven't ran them again. Looking at maybe anchor tape for an option would be a good avenue!

How did they damage your frame?

Sand and debris can get in between the frame and the guard causing abrasion issues, especially on painted/powder coated frames.

They tend to let sand and dirt in a bit and it really does a number on the aluminum and or powder coating. 

Same here. 12ish hours on my Tech 10s before my soles needed to be replaced with no sole inserts available for a size 13 boot anywhere. The soles on my Sidi CF3 last about 20 hours and can be changed in 5 minutes for $40. 

I never had that problem, but I did apply RTV silicone to the backside of the guards during installation.

People saying that Astars have better "protection" than Gaerne??  Hahahaaa  Ever see the pics of Andersons foot?  Comfort?  possibly.  Protection?  No.

buy eyelets and the cinch from amazon for like $10 and you can make your booties way tighter. I also have jacked ankles and this helped me a ton once the boots were fully broke in and i wanted that new boot stiffness back, 

Yeah I cut those off the tongue. I run the top rows of lace under the velcro flap and use that to tidy up the lace and cinch inside the boot.
