There was plenty of star power there.

As far as boring racing is have you been to a National in the last 2 yrs. There is no racing. Its a joke.

The nationals use to be a great time but cutting everything down to one day is a crock of shit.

"Lack of AMA star power" Reed wasn't there but the other moto winner from last week was! I don't know if anyone would have beaten BT 101 in the second moto. I spent a lot of money to fly down to GH and watch the usgp and I'm very glad I did.

Call it what you want (thankfully I only wasted my time on 450 words) but this is just more of the gospel according to Nerd.

I'm hoping he'll return here soon as it's been too long since anyone's told me what I am thinking.....I .always enjoy this display of omnipotence.

show me any other 450/250 words that doesnt mention where a single rider finished.
http://www.racerxonline.com/...steel-city-2009.aspx I'm pretty sure there's more. Maybe not Steve's best work, but I expect his point was primarily his opinion on what Americans are attracted to for better or worse, what was missing, and what needs to happen for that to change.

I am impressed, that 250 words has very little to do with the race other then describing the 2 riders who battled for the championship

Gang, I have been out at High Point all week working and I am no flying to Texas. I was not at the GP, I did not read (let alone edit) Steve's take, and I think he was harsh too. But I have read some of the breathless accounts that went on over there, which has absolutely no substance or critical opinion whatsoever, especially from the Grand Prix "media." His take is no different than those of the "media" that somehow missed the fact that a track structure landed on two riders and ended the race prematurely, only he's pointing out the not-so-successful aspects of a race that has seen a lot of people get carried away, for reasons that really have more to do with geography than partisan politics.

Bottom line, from an outsider's view: There are people who had a great time at the event, and ones that didn't. That's the one thing everyone does agree on, plus the facts that Musquin and Cairoli and Townley are badasses, and Mike Alessi had a weird day. And while there weren't many people out there watching, maybe there will be in the future.

Sounds like a lot of whining.

The USGP is a great tradition, and it's back.

Let's all try to remember that this was a last minute "first time" effort. I am pleased to have the USGP back and am hoping to attend next year. I watched the races online and thought they were great.
As for Cox and 250/450 words... I didn't read either but it seems to me that it's his column and his opinion/ observation. We do normally get race results mixed in but let's not pretend we don't get those in several other places. In short, stop whining about it and move on. Be thankful for all the press our little sport gets.

Cox is a good guy, and he's going to say what he thinks. Naturally, what anyone thinks depends on where they are.

People are expecting too much due to the situation.

RX is the same company that runs the Nats. The nats see the USGP as competition and a threat. What should one except if a competitor gets to come in and work media? I cant think of another sport where this happens. It's just bizarre, but people are used to it and forget.

Youthstream does not have a magazine or even try to play both sides like Morgantown does.

I can't think of a sport where a journalist gets denied a press pass because someone made a prank phone call to their internet show.

Ha! That as well. The intimacy of it all certainly keeps the secrets minimal and the drama flowing, though.

Matthes seemed to think it was a MXA deal keeping him out, they think he's negative towards them.

From http://forum.pulpmx.com/content/no-gp-press-pass-matthes :

"I couldn't get a real answer from Mario Marini (the USA GP press guy) about what it was that I wrote got me in trouble. I pointed out all I have done for the GP's but he wasn't having it. Finally another journalist told me that he heard it was the Pulpmx Show fake "Guiseppe" call that got me banned as well as some things that I have written in the Italian magazine, Motocross.

I have no idea when the fake Guiseppe is going to call in or what he's going to say but I have to admit that it is funny so I let it keep going. And the whole thing with the magazine, well I've been consistent the whole time with my feelings so thats what I wrote for them as well.

Whatever, it doesn't bother me. I'm out $130 bucks but thats ok, look at all the races I've gotten in free at in my life. No big deal."

My take on the USGP. Until the US riders take it seriously it is simply just another GP. I am a moto fan and can barely stomach to watch the poor TV coverage of the GP's that we get here in America. I spend enough time in front of a computer to sit and watch the motos in my office. I would rather wash filters and get ready to ride. If the GP's want some American fans they are going to have to offer the opportunity for us to be a fan. I get GP race coverage on channel 410 ALTITUDE on Dish Network. The picture is so poor that you cannot read the numbers on the bikes and can barely read the text on the screen. I thought the 250 and 450 words were spot on, albeit a touch extreme. I wish I could have gone.

Nothing against Matthes, especially since I spent the bulk of my youth knowing him and his brother. Still, when you play the role of a joker there's often a price. Plus, it's up to the owners to decide who they give freebies to, like he said, no big deal, he seems over it.

If I remember correctly Andrew Dice Clay and the Jerky Boys were staples back in the day. Not everyone can take it.

Unfortunately, there is a significant difference between European and North American broadcast standards. Once again, we are the holdouts sticking with our outdated NTSC standard, while most other countries in the world broadcast in PAL or the slightly less popular SECAM.

Yes, we share the same broadcast standard as ANTARCTICA.

What's happening is, by the time the signal is made accessible to your NTSC TV, the quality has suffered beyond repair.

The same signal in a country that broadcasts in PAL or SECAM is actally far better quality than the feeds we get in our North American homes on a day-to-day basis.

Someday, we will wake up and join the rest of the world.

pie8man...wtf are you talking about. The video coverage of the GP's in America is 2nd to none. The internet coverage is commercial free HD live streaming. The best live stream of any sport I've ever seen in fact. If you don't like looking at your computer run a hdmi cable from your computer to your flat screen and presto it's on your TV. I for one hope we never get TV coverage of the GP's. If we do the internet coverage will get blocked and we'll get whatever coverage they can squeeze into a hr show riddled with geico and progressive insurance commercials. Not to mention it probably won't be shown for a week or so after the event takes place rather than live as it is today. That's the last thing I want. Sure Paul Malin is annoying at times and incredibly biased towards his GBR riders but whatever. It's commercial free live MX and that's all i care about.

Matthes is lucky they let him stay in the country, let alone get the boot from the GP. Tongue

http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Games+critic+denied+entry/2533650/sto…

Bottom line - it happens in other sports, events, etc. where press agents are denied access. Done deal - time to move on.

Hey, have you heard that there is a race in Texas this weekend?
