Great to see a "come back" story like his unfold. Takes almost 2 years off, and comes back on a team that took a chance on him.

Congratulations to Ben, Troy Lee, and David Pingree. Though they did not win the overall, I think in many peoples eyes they were the biggest winner of the weekend.

Happened right in front of me. They release the riders one at a time and Mike went out right before Townley and then Townley gassed it just enough to get right in front of Alessi then gunned it and totally roosted Alessi. Mike was like WTF and then flipped him off.
hopefully someone got some pics of it lol

Ben is fast and smooth but still has some ring rust.

His performance at the prequel, Hangtown and the GP should have everyone on notice.....but everyone else should still show up.

Go Ben but also ...go everyone, too.

Title threat? Isn't everyone after one round?

i was actually surpised to see Townley challenging Mike in Moto 1. Didn't expect him to hit that hard.

toroP.. It's not a bandwagon.. The guy was injured and away from the sport for two years and seldom do contenders take 2 years off and come back contenders. Lets just take Grant Langston for example. In 07 he won the outdoor 450 national championship. Has been out with injury ever since and look where he is. Nothing against Grant but the struggles he's having finding that top 3 speed he had in 07 are the norm when you've been off for so long. That same year Grant won the title (2007) was the last time we saw BT battling for wins and championships and he hasn't really raced since other then a few lackluster motos in 08. So you can't blame people for doubting him and now changing their tune (me being one of them) since seeing how good he really is. That being said after what I've seen at round one of the nationals and the USGP I will have no problem going on record saying Ben will be in the title hunt and I now would not be surprised if he wins the whole damn thing. I think he's back to his 07 speed.. The 07 speed that beat RV more times then RV beat him that year and IMO RV is up there with the best ever (if not the best ever since they went to 4 strokes lites)outdoors in the 250 class. If you want me a bandwagon jumper you can. I just call it a realistic prediction based on the facts as they're presented to me.

Is Townley on a backdoor factory Honda or just a modded stocker?

No doubt more of a "factory" than DeDycker at Hangtown, The US is so hung up on bikes as a excuse for lack of talent...

You are so hung up on discrediting and puting down the US that it is pathetic. How is someone asking about Townley's bike an excuse for his lack of talent? Dip shit. He didn't make excuses. Judging by the ass whooping BT put on your boys the second moto, I would say there is no need for excuses. Maybe you would sound less stupid if you thought rationally before posting. Try it!

You jump to conclusions , I was stating that a talent such as former FIM world Champion and NZL rider Ben Townley can put in a competitive ride on equipment that is not what most people would think of as "factory" or highly modified, ( as referring to Ken at Hangtown). There is not this bike fixation. You forget or are not aware that Ben was riding against his old competitors and friends and old room mate today from the GP`s, he is a NZL GP rider who happens to ride a series in the states now

I remember Ping saying that Honda will provide more support if BT does well in the first races. So I guess at the moment the bike is pretty much PC tuned, but that can't be too bad either, can it?

I am fully aware of Townley's situation. Thanks for the explanation though. And this is what you stated: "The US is so hung up on bikes as a excuse for lack of talent..." Not any of that mubo jumbo above.

Chads the defending champ and off to a good start, i hope Ben is his main competition, go the Anzacs. The euros and USA are smoking the Aus nats and hold the gun riders but little OZ and NZ are looking good in the AMA.Metty looks good also and even young Jake got the RC award.

What the hell are Anzacs?

Do they have a long snout and eat insects?

Was bloody good to see Ben back riding like I know he can.

Yup, he is a serious threat for the AMA 450 series - and personally I think he would be even with RV and James out there as the dude has speed. He also has a bit of a fault (or is it?) that he trains harder than he races and that is what has caused some of his injuries.

Gonna be one fun National series.

After the past 2 years PLUS he has had, I hope he puts the rest of the nationals in his pocket. It was great to see him win yesterday, down right inspiring.

You may be right that Bens Race bike has some decent parts on it but you would be shocked to learn that the bike he raced yesterday was a 50 hour plus test bike!!! Never once in that second Moto did anyone look smoother and at ease on that track than BT... I was very impressed with his ride and the way he picked the track apart better than anyone when others struggled

In the first place i hope he'll be a long time injury-free, as long as that keeps away you can expect him a lot in top three i guess.

My guess is that Ben Townley and Chad Reed will leave the rest of the pack behind and battle for the 450 title.

BT also has a very cool riding style, Alessi's more like a flag, because he's smaller.

Yes he's great, he isn't my favourite rider for nothing. BUT, I think he hasn't reached his full potential yet. In Hangtown he had some close moments and at GH also sometimes, at least what I have seen. He wants to be fast so bad, he rushes and starts making mistakes. I'd wish he'd take his time more and be patient. I want him to do good, but rather on a solid base with some weeks time and not within two weeks and risking another injury. He's not the BT from the PC days, yet. Looked way smoother and in control then.
