2019+ KTM 250/350/450 Models - How many hours can you get on these steel clutch baskets before having to replace?
I was searching the Google and can't seem to find any worn steel KTM clutch basket pictures.
So odd.
Are they really that long lived?
I have never had to replace any ktm clutch hard parts…just plates & bellvue washer as preventative…. The baskets are wirksmof art …get what u pay for
I'm not sure how different the baskets are between all of the bikes, but on my '18 250 2 stroke I have 156 hours on the stock clutch and 76 hours on my '22 350sx. When I had the 2 stroke apart for a rebuild the plates looked brand new still. I'm not ET3 hard on a clutch, but I'm a pretty big user of it. The basket wasn't even worn through the hard coating they have on it.
I've been around a lot of Austrian bikes of all sizes over the last 8 or so years. From 50's to 450's and riders from easy on the clutch to total goons. On the bikes with the washer clutch and steel baskets (85 and up), I have seen exactly 1 clutch actually get worn out to the point it needed new plates. And that was on an 18-450 that the rider leaves the bike in 3rd everywhere and just jackhammers the crap out of the clutch to keep the bike moving. That clutch started slipping and needed new plates at 185 hrs.... LOL. Other than that, I have never seen the plates legitimately wear past service in another bike. Baskets and hard parts? Never seen any of those show any wear at all. The rubber dampers in the 450's and and some 2-strokes are known to degrade and break down. My 350 with 110 hrs, my 125 with almost 70 hrs, and my MC300 with 50 hrs all still have complete original clutches in spec.
Helpful - thanks guys!
I am increasingly impressed by some of KTM's design work & metallurgy --- smokes the Japanese in certain areas. Electrical - not KTM's forte. :-)

I have 220 hours on my 2021 FX350 racing B class hare scrambles and just trail riding. It is about half worn measuring it against a new spare clutch I have and what thickness the manual calls for replacment.
One important thing is the preload setting on the spring washer. I think a lot of guys are not aware the retainer ring has 3 different preload settings. Once the bike gets a few hours, it will usually need to be stepped to the next tighter preload to keep the right adjustment. If you don't do this, there will be low pressure on the plates allowing more slippage and accelerated wear.
Really aappreciate you mmentioning this ^^^!
150h so far and the basket is without a scratch. KTM not only put all other OEMs clutches to shame, but aftermarket ones like Hinson etc as well. One piece steel with the gear milled in at the same price as the aluminum rivet-on junk.
Electrical seems to be a struggle with pretty much all Euro bikes or cars.
The 1pc steel basket is another thing KTM borrowed from Husaberg.
The only one I ever saw wear out was a factory defect. It missed heat treat or something and was too soft.
KTM went to the steel basket around 2012. Meanwhile, here’s a Husaberg basket from 2001:
