Question for anyone thats ever had Ohlins suspension.

I rode a bike this past weekend with Ohlins and I couldnt believe how good it was. I thought the whole "riding on a cloud" saying was a myth but for the first time in my life the setup I rode last weekend showed me what a properly setup suspension is actually like. Hands down the best setup I've ever used. On the bright side I know what Im chasing now going forward, now I just need to figure out how to get there.

So my questions are:

- Is Ohlins really that much better than revalved/sprung stock suspension or is my current KYB setup just that far off? Before that I thought my suspension was pretty dang good. I was wrong.. The Ohlins I rode was setup for a rider thats a lot bigger than me but quite a bit slower yet outside of having like zero race sag (because of our weight difference) it felt absolutely perfect.

- Are there any downsides to the Ohlins over say KYB/Showa (things such as maintenance and all that)? There really isn't a ton of information out there on Ohlins that I can find and a lot of that is from 2010-2014.

- Anyone ever made the dive and regretted it? Why?

I notice the resale on them seems really good which is nice if I were to pick up a used set and then switch bikes in the future.

Half of the shops (or less) have good settings. Did you notice who setup the set you tested?

Service and setup are everything on your stock or Ohlins stuff.

I didnt ask specifically but it was someone in Ohio that took care of it. I see the guy most weekends so asking who did it wouldn't be an issue.

That's cool. Love riding other people's setups. Always something good to notice.

I love riding whit ohlins forks .

Then difference between KYB , and ohlins is that the ohlins shim stack floats and not sprinloaded.

Ohlins also have  a pressurized chamber above the piston instead of spring.

So servicing it is doable ,but i would recommend professionals service the inner chamber.

I know what you mean when you say 'riding on a cloud'. I got an Ohlins TTX Flow shock for my KTM150sx and I'm so happy with it. The bike sits up in the stroke but is plusher than the stock stuff ever was and when accelerating out of a turn, the rear end is less prone to stepping out, it's amazing! It has a very similar feel to my cone valve forks in the sense that it kind of "slows" the track down so you can ride faster, the cone forks compliment the TTX shock well. I liked the TTX shock so much, I got one for my YZ250.

Also, my brother had the same positive experience as me with his bikes and like you Deadric, when I ride my brothers bike with the same TTX shock but with stiffer springs it still feels supple, controlled and plush with great bottoming resistance, the valving is so good. 100% recommended.

I haven't had it serviced yet but it's performed flawlessly for 17 hours so far.

Ohlins make the TTX Flow DV model now with a high speed comp adjuster.

I love Ohlins, had had multiple sets. Before you make the leap, have an idea of who will service the suspension. Many places don't touch them for some reason.

I have a TTX Flow in my TC125 that has taken some work to get right. It was originally for a FC250 but revalved it to the 125 spec, all other parts are the same between the two. Have tried a few different compression stacks and I'm onto my own version now which is working pretty well. Definitely see the potential in the two tube design and you can buy any individual part if something is ever damaged as well. A few different tools to service the shock but nothing out of the ordinary.

Hey Cooper, I have a 2015 KTM 150 with  a 2004 KTM 200 SX engine in it. I sent my forks to Corey at Pro Tune for the KYB SSS conversion. I like them so much better than stock. What forks do you have on your 150 SX and what year is it? I've heard great things about Ohlins but they're just so expensive but you get what you pay for. I just love my bike, l plan on keeping it forever so when my shock goes, you never know. I wouldn't rule out an Ohlins.

I know guys who have raced all their lives and I ask them if they have any opinion about Ohlins there like no we never had them or know anybody who has. But, I'm not getting any younger and an Ohlins setup might extend my riding career. I'm 51 now and have been riding since 1983.

Hey Tommy, 200 engine that's awesome, I've never ridden one but heard good things. Our 150s are 2013 models and we got the WP cone valve forks in 2019 and we love them, light years ahead of the stock stuff with excellent hold up but still plush off the top. They match up really well with Ohlins shock which we highly recommend. After all these years riding (I'm 43) I really appreciate great suspension and after biting the bullet and buying A kit I have zero regrets. I now have KYB factory suspension on my YZ 250 and it's superb as well, very plush and controlled, it makes riding safer! (and faster)!

I have never ridden an OEM fork that could be made as good as the Ohlins. As far as supple feel the only thing that came close was the '89 KX's and a set of works Zuke conventional. Neither of those had the hold up or bottoming resistance of the Ohlins.YMMV!

My bet would be Coppersmith out of New Franklin, OH area.  They have been servicing Ohlins suspension for a long time.

Hello Guys.

I have a question, i hope some one can help me. I have my ohlins TTX cartridge for my KTM 300 2023.

I am trying to service them but one of the shaft’s looks like it is smaller than the other one. Does not goes all the way out. I am trying to get any service manual but i couldn’t find. I don’t know how much gas pressure goes in the gas chamber. And if it is something diferent inside the cartridge’s that makes this happened. I know both would be the same long. But one lf them is like 3 cm smaller. The shaft does not goes all the way out when i put the gas pressure inside the chamber.

I had the same experience where I rode a big boys bike and have never experienced that cush again. But I never got into mid stroke. Oh yeah, off-road valving.
