While I do not agree with everything his platform allows, I do understand the reasons why he does it. But to arrest him is absolutely insane. If you aren’t paying attention, free speech is hands down on the docket. Elon Musk, and rumble have both been targeted as well.
There's a lot to this story.
Seems like something could have been done about the evil that operated on that platform.
But arresting Pavel isn't the solution.
Rumor has it, the same shit's going on in the dark corners of meta/fb, 4chan, and who knows where else.
zuck's been called out for it.
But I guess he's "too big to fail".
All depends on who you are, when it comes to what you can say.
He wasn't arrested for the evil that operates on the platform. He was arrested for refusal to cooperate with law enforcement; being a roadblock to something being done about it.
Zuck cooperates with law enforcement, as far as I've seen. So why would he be arrested for not cooperating with law enforcement?
yeah, he caved to illegal political censorship so he gets a pass and can continue hosting a site that exploits children to predators.
My point exactly.
The Shop

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.

And i know just what he was busted for.
So, if I'm reading this right, your stance is:
Durov hosts a site that exploits children to predators, doesn't comply with law enforcement to help stem the bad actions = good; he is arrested = bad
Zuck hosts a site that exploits children to predators, complies with law enforcement to help stem bad actors = bad; he is not arrested = bad.
no
those going after durov dont give a shit about protecting children, but if you dont fall in line with censoring information they dont like they will use the children as an excuse to come and put you in prison.
instagrams whole platform is pictures, not communication, information or news... and it seems their algorithms aide in exploitation.
^ Also, why is Rumble being shut down in countries? because of free speech or child exploitation?
or in the words of tampon tim:
“No guarantee of free speech” - Walz
They are targeting the people they can't control.
Without Elon buying Twitter, we'd have no way of hearing about what is really happening in the world.
This is weird, even for non moto.
Interesting.
FB booted Hillsdale college for a while. Said it was accidental.
Yeah, OK.
Zuck came out and said the Biden administration was pushing them for censorship and he now regrets allowing it. Either he is covering his own ass because he sees what is happening OR he is being honest lol. 😂
Lol at the loser downvoting like someone attacked them personally. What kind of schmuck is all for government curbing free speech? Weak minded
This board is full of them, lurking off in the dark corners.
Unable to have viable opinions of their own.
Irritated by those of us who do, and aren't afraid to openly post them.
Tucker says some pretty lame shit sometimes. He had to tie BIDEN into this by saying that France is a "Biden Administration" ally. No, dipshit, they have been an American ally for 250 years. Not just during the Biden administration.
And then he says that darkness is descending on a formerly free world. When the hell was the "world free" Tucker?
Pit Row
It may seem weird; but, after The Twitter Files…there are those of us that don’t trust our own government…so, we’re more than “untrusting” when something like this goes down under someone like Macron.
And yet he's imprisoned.
And it's the same of type of shit we see a slow creep of, happening here under our noses.
Slowly the heat's being turned up under the pot.
I knew someone was going to enter and denigrate Tucker.
Instead of carefully listening to what he had to say.
Much like Trump talking about who other countries were sending across our southern border.
If you don't see it, you're deliberately not looking.
The gist of his post was right on. Just don't include the bullshit. Why fuck your own cred with that?
Greewald's take:
An American ally for 250 years, yes that's correct. But it wasn't until recently that France is now starting to adopt the Biden administration theology of censoring, indicting and imprisoning political opponents through selective targeting by the way of the newly coined phrased, "Lawfare".
Free speech is a very specific term relating to our 1a, which I'm not sure most folks understand very well. We are all in ML's domain, which means that if he wants to edit our posts to say only things he likes, then that is him exercising his rights to free speech. It's not possible for there to be any free speech issues on this website as long as it's at the hand of ML. We have a hard time grasping it because we don't have civic in our lives anymore, which is maybe the cause of why we're culturally becoming more selfish, so we default to thinking about ourselves all the time, but that's not how rights work. Rights are every bit about what we can do, as they are what we can't do. Rights are there to make us happy, just as much as they're there to make us unhappy (though if one actually likes rights, the unhappy part dissipates).
Years ago I learned a little bit about how certain websites skirt the law, and I mean skirt the law by a razor thin line. One of the most concise examples was a torrent site with a ton of illegal downloads. They were 100% on the radar and law enforcement had a hardon for shutting them down, but they didn't because they didn't think the case was solid enough since the site owners had plenty of warnings about "please do not share anything you don't own the copyright to, etc.". So it had this look of "hey we're doing what we can, but we have lots of users and zero staff, so we're unable to moderate content" and law enforcement felt their case wasn't quite strong enough considering the official position the site took. Low and behold, a huge new movie came out and the site owners posted something like, "it's here, what you've all been waiting for!!" and boom, done. Seized by the FBI. The minute there was any evidence of awareness of illegal content, it went from technically legal, to you're super screwed, two places that are worlds apart and yet separated by just eight words.
Is this were an arrest in the USA, there would need to be solid evidence of something complicit that goes all the way up. Something the US doesn't like to do is violate rights in a long term planned out manner. It usually happens in more situational conflicts in the moment, cop being aa jerk because someone pissed them off kind of a thing, but it's more rare when it's a months and months long planned out investigation gathering evidence and conducting interviews, etc. etc. Of course it happens, but not nearly as often, because that's when the gov't reeeeeeaaaaally has to open up its wallet and also end people's careers. The above anecdote about the torrent site seems silly, because it's an obvious thing pretending not to be the thing when everyone knows it's the thing, and many people in the US would be frustrated with something like that not getting shut down, but like most things that don't make sense on the surface, they start to make more sense as you look into the details and understand everyone's objectives and constraints.
What a weird and terrible post from Tucker. He says it's a western country as to imply that it's not how western countries should act, but then he just can't stop nut hugging on Putin and Russia which is REALLY not how western countries should act.
Correlation is not automatically causation. Brazil is pulling the same shit. Elon pulled his executives out of there for fear of arrest. X will be shut down in Brazil by Monday or so. I doubt they are taking their cues from Biden. Just as I doubt that France is. I will agree that it's more a tool of the left for sure but as Taibbi said, Republicans pressured social media too. As for lawfare, the fucking Democrats own that one. if the Republicans start pulling that shit then they are no better.
I’m not sure, but I think the origin of ‘lawfare’ was likely when Ken Starr was tasked with investigating a land investment company involving a president and then morphed it into 3 or 4 other questionable claims before settling on the finding of a president lying about an illicit, consensual tryst with a staffer. That’s the first major one that I can remember, although there were likely plenty of people on both sides who were interested in being involved in the prosecution of said alleged crimes.
I honestly don't know where the term lawfare came from. I assumed it was referring to actual civil and criminal prosecutions brought by AG's for political purposes which seems to have gone turbo in recent years because of Trump. The appointment of special prosecutors has been going on since the 1800's. The idea is based on avoiding conflict of interest which is a noble endeavor but was totally politicized as time went on. Like everything else.
Sounds like we…and our NATO peeps…want a back door into Telegram because the Russians use it even amongst their Military in Ukraine…so, “We” want full accesss and Durov ain’t having it…
Anyone familiar how our Department of State handles “Freedom of Imforamtion” when it’s a foreign nation…?
Wait, what’s my usual tag line…?
Sounds like they refused access to docs/info as required by French law when investigating crimes.
It also seems odd to be against the French gov't enforcing laws cracking down on big social media corporate transparency when investigating crimes, while simultaneously wishing the same thing would happen here with other platforms. Inconsistency is usually the first sign that something being presented, is not being accurately. If someone wants to crack down on big social media corps, but is against that when it happens to Telegram, yet wishes it would happen to Facebook, then it's not actually about cracking down on big social media corps, someone just doesn't like Facebook, which is probably a proxy for not liking Zuckerberg, which....that's hard to argue against because he's a slimy little jerkoff. But, inserting what is essentially lie into the equation, instantly erases any legitimacy from the outside perspective. It's why you always have to take the high road even when no one else is, because it's out of touch with reality to think we're better while not actually being any better.
