Masterpool injury and Motocross brain injuries.

I know this is a very old post but I believe we can make the sport incredibly safe and stop spinal injuries and death. I love to see outdoor motocross as we all do and I think spacing between small jumps is the key allowing the rider to get set up. The second thing is we need to stop any jump that allows a rider to drop more than 10’. The jump can be very large but as long as it’s a tabletop so they don’t drop so far down. This would help a lot and motocross will still be just as bad ass as it always has been. Reducing injuries is the key to building this sport back to what we had in the 70’s-90’s along with the 2 strokes. I believe a rider shouldn’t be allowed to rider without neck protection and a helmet about 1” larger in padding. Now on to the most fatal jump of all which is the endo. This is how people end up on their head, neck and back. I don’t have the answer but Elon Musk and others can EASILY figure this out. The bike can’t endo ever. When they figure out a way to stop from going over the bars this sport will boom and we will all enjoy motocross so much more. It will take electronics to bring down a back wheel quickly to stop an endo. I know it’s possible but it takes brains and people that understand this law of physics. I’m all for toning the tracks down a bit on dangerous jumps because I know the sport will be incredible and you’ll have much better racing

If this sport booms because Elon finds a way to electronically stop me from going over the bars, it’ll be a sign for me to go meditate in a cave for a couple decades.

I hope one day you will realize no one is coming to save you. Put your phone away and go ride more.

If Elon's truck is anything to go by, he'd make a Motocross bike that is slower, uglier, more unreliable, and more dangerous than an 83 KX500.

The revival post is one of the dumbest things I have ever read.

Why dont we limit F1 cars to say, 90mph. AND diving boards to 10ft. Then we could make NFL players walk instead of run. While we are at it let's make NASCAR drive a maximum of 250hp cars.

The downside to this attitude is our sport is not growing.....costs are very high to get into the sport which limits who can afford to do it, those with the money to get involved are reluctant to do so due to the inherent danger while nothing is being done to make the sport safer for those who are presently involved. Bottom line is there are so many steps that could be taken to make things safer in general but the majority really don't seem to care....well they care regarding "prayers sent, Godspeed, etc" but these sentiments while well intentioned do nothing to keep the next rider from getting injured or minimize the injuries.

Mind boggling the OEMs don't have a committee or sponsor an organization to collect accident data to see what can be learned from it regarding gear and track design.

The AMA or someone associated with pro racing paid a company to do tests on helmets about 7-8 years ago.  I know this because my friend's company did this. I've not spoken to him in years and don't know the outcome.

He's a guy I went to high school with and when I saw him at Indy SX I was shocked because I never knew he was into MX/SX.  Started talking with him and he laughed and said I'm not I'm here to study helmet impact/concussions.

I was watching HBO training camps and saw them wearing what looked like bubble wrap that got me thinking why not do this for MX?

BTW why can’t I post a picture of them with my iPad ???

Sounds like it is a bot.  One thing  I want to point out is the 1"  thicker padding on helmets.  Increasing the overall shell size , increases the rotational energy by a large amount.   Leatt has some info on that. I believe it is a 10% increase  in size results in 30% more energy transmitted. It acts like a lever.

I was thinking that a bigger helmet with more padding could be safer. But the truth is that there is a balance between being big enough to have material to absorb other types of impacts, and keep the overall shell size smaller to help reduce the rotational energy. Rotational energy is the more dangerous kind. it takes about 50G's to give you a concussion , and only 30G's of rotational energy can be deadly. That is why MIPS, and other ways of reducing rotational energy are so popular. They are mostly simple ways of making a helmet much safer.

I think that focusing on new materials and more  testing of safety gear is the better way to make it safer.    I'm sure they could build a self riding street motorcycle , but I also think that it would take away a lot of, if not all of what makes riding so free  feeling and enjoyable for people.  I want to see the sport grow, but I do not want to see it turn into just another way to get from point a to point B.

That's the ticket!  Less gear not more.  A Tarzan loincloth, and a pair of Converse high tops.  That'll make them roll that throttle back.

Why not for MX?  Probably aesthetics, mostly.  Although at the speeds the racers are going, having a slicker surface may keep the helmet from 'grabbing' on the terrain and causing spinal issues.

The NFL is allowing players to use them in games this year if they choose to.

Here is one with the team emblem cover.

Lol

Why solve the root of the issue when you can just pile on bandaids?

There is a way to solve it! Not solve all injuries 100% but my goal is surely 50% of minor injuries and 100% of fatal injuries. We just haven’t figured it out yet. There is an answer. Sit by yourself and think really hard about it. We don’t want to see anyone hurt badly and surely not death. Even motocross is not worth dying
