I wouldn't know the viewership of MXoN in US but worldwide it'll be a lot, extrapolating the TV viewing figures for MXGP in 2023  MXGP 2023 SEASON| A YEAR OF TRIUMPHS, RECORDS AND GLOBAL REACH | MXGP

Reach and viewership are not the same thing....Apples and oranges...reach is how many housholds could watch and viewership is how many did...for some reason European based sports always put more emphasis on reach, probably because not many countries have a system in place to accurately count the viewership numbers

Can you help me with something? It's not just you, it's most Aussies on this board, but you seem to have the most anger and vitriol. Why do you care so much which American does or doesn't want to race the MXoN? Why do you care so much about American patriotism? I honestly couldn't give two shits who Australia puts on their team, or France, or Belgium, or . . .  Sure I'd like to see all of the best race each other but if Herlings opts out for whatever reason I couldn't imagine throwing a tantrum over it. What am I missing?

We have a strong sense of national pride, not flag-waving, chest-beating patriotism, but a desire to go up against the best in the world to show what we can do.  To us, representing your country is the highest honour and the pinnacle of the sport.  Declining that opportunity without an obvious valid reason is something that most Aussies struggle to comprehend.

MXoN is about stripping away the bullshit, the money, the politics and everything else and finding out who is the best.  When the money excuse starts being thrown about it really is grating.  What’s even worse is “we’ll only go if we think we can win”.  Either or both of those statements suggest to me that as a professional athlete the rider has lost sight of what he’s actually doing for a living.

I know this discussion comes up every year so let’s bookmark this and any others, and revisit them in 2026 (or whenever the MXoN is at Ironman).  Wonder how many US riders will be unavailable then?

Excellent response.  I would add - and this is just my view but I also suspect the view of a lot of Brits, Aussies, and Kiwis - that the US is extremely patriotic in a very public way.  Examples include students pledging allegiance to the flag in classrooms, putting your hands on your hearts during national anthems, having military appreciation days, having American flags in nearly every yard and so on.  Therefore, we would expect Americans to also be extremely keen on representing their country in sport. When riders - all who are highly paid professionals - don't want to go to MXDN we rightly think WTF?

Aussies, Brits, and Kiwis love representing their countries - all while dialing down the public displays of patriotism.

The MXON is not about money.

The MXON is about racing for your country and EVERYTHING it may stand for. Stop with this Matthes nonsense that money is the reason because it fucking isn't.

Excellent post, GrapeApe.  That summarizes the opinion on MXdN for myself, my sons, and a few friends who follow the sport.

Then people will bring up the flag thing which was obviously just to try and get under hunters skin. It’s best not to take anything Haiden says or does too seriously.

He brought this all on himself, put up or shut up and stop using the flag as a marketing tool if you won’t represent your country

He’s getting surgery what do you want?  He could delay it and put his supercross prep behind the 8 ball. I think SX is more important at this point sorry to say.

Im not a Deeganite in the slightest, but it’s amazing how many people on here are incapable of nuance when it comes to these situations.

No way bro, surgery is not a valid excuse.  According to FarmerJ and HerrLich he should ignore his health and go no matter what or he's not allowed to wave an American flag ever again.

Who knew there were such stipulations to being patriotic in a free country.  I also never knew an Aussie had the final say on what it meant to be a patriotic American...but here we are.

I'd be interested to know more about people spewing something negative while pretending to be objective about their analysis?

In the vast majority of commentary concerning Haiden the negative comments are appropriate to what he does.

Examples:

Comment: Haiden's patriotism is phoney.  Action: Deegan waved an American flag and leaned heavily into the patriotic American schtick then didn't go to MXDN, and looks like he won't again.

Comment: Haiden is an entitled little prick.  Action: Numerous examples of him disrespecting other riders and makind stupid scripted comments on the podium.

There's nothing insane about the commentary about Deegan.  It would be a 'drop off (of) reason in a sea of insanity' if, for example, someone said Hymas is an entitled little prick when there is clearly absolutely nothing to base that on.

Your response is a perfect example of what I'm talking about when I said that people like to spew negative things about Deegan under the guise of objectivity.

You say, for example that, Haiden's patriotism is phoney and that the evidence for that is his refusal to go to the MXoN.

But as has been pointed out, Star Yamaha per Jeremy Coker said that they were not going to send Haiden with the team that was going. That's not ambiguous.

As for 2024, Haiden has said that he would like to go, but might possibly have plates removed in which case he would not be going, which is a perfectly legitimate  reason.

Those are the facts, that's what we know. However, some of you are not going to believe that, you're going to say Haiden didn't want to go and Star Yamaha is making excuses for him. I've even heard some people say that he doesn't have plates. He's just making excuses to avoid going.

But all that is being incredulous, and none of that is objective, and none of that counts as any type of evidence or warrant for your skepticism. It's just being incredulous while putting on the mask of being objective when in all likelihood that skepticism is motivated by a personal dislike for Haiden.

Like I ppreviously said, the same bad actors show up in every thread about Deegan.

I had zero issues with CC going last year. In fact he may have saved the whole effort. He seemingly IMHO gave one of his best efforts for the year. I have been saying for the better part of 2 years his riding looks like he wants nothing to do with racing the top guys here. He did surprisingly put in a good effort the last couple weeks. I wonder if in the words of Bubba Stew if it was a “business decision”?

I think he’s regaining confidence and strength in his arm and wants to do good to prove he’s still got it. I appreciate everyone who went last year, especially christian.

Fun fact:   There's some cool Aussies NZlanders on this board....but man, are they are outnumbered by the unhinged.

No one knows yet I don’t think but west was rumored by a few places I believe. Outside of prior injuries it seems most teams have there riders prep for west injuries always force guys east.

I am shocked Aussies want Deegan to go to MXDN. He’d probably win a moto outright on a 250 against their messiah

I think Deegs is just making excuses not to go just like last year but do agree that if the riders have to entertain for free Luongo should give all proceeds back for this race to ALL teams for their travel expense and whatever track that is chosen to host it should not have to pay his outrageous fees

So you don’t think he’s getting surgery?

Deegan can't wait 2 weeks with the surgery after the SMX final?

Does he really need 15 weeks with preparations for SX?! 13 weeks aren't enough?

Prado tested SX whole January with high risk and only got 6 weeks to prepare before the first mxgp race, 10th of March in Argentina.

Not really Apples to Apples.  Prado was doing Supercross to advance his career and knew that if it went well he wouldn't care about MXGP anymore....it did, and now he doesn't.

Aside from more support from the fans, going to MXdN doesn't really advance Deegan's career and potentially sets him back even.

This will get downvoted but it's the truth.

I’d be interested to hear how racing some of the best in the world on a great track is a hindrance to one’s career

Prado still got a contract and sponsors like Deegan. Don't think they would be happy if he got hurt.

I think Deegan should go. His fan base will probably grow, not everyone has heard of him in Europe. Maybe getting new sponsors as well 🤷🏼‍♂️ There's always a risk in this sport, but seems like he's getting people mad by staying home for the second year.

Edit to add: I guess I did say it could set him back, by that I meant if he got hurt and/or made the current injury he needs surgery for worse.  Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough.

I think Deegan should go. His fan base will probably grow, not everyone has heard of him in Europe. Maybe getting new sponsors as well 🤷🏼‍♂️ There's always a risk in this sport, but seems like he's getting people mad by staying home for the second year.

I don't think he would care if they were happy or not, either way he was coming to America next year.

Ummmm it is though.  Way bigger.

That title probably makes him a Million bucks.....not to mention it's literally the reason that Yamaha hired him, to win championships.   How much does MXdN pay again?

"I had to sign up just to say I'm always entertained by DonM and LungButter anytime Deegan is brought up in a thread"

Someone gets worked up over threads about Deegan but it ain't DonM. My guess is, a more in depth reading of your post history would show you jump aboard just about every thread where Deegan's name is mentioned.

It seems that some are a drop off reason in a sea of insanity when it comes to Haiden. But one thing is certain, the same bad actors, acting in bad faith show up in every thread about him to spew something negative and pretend to be objective about their analysis.

That wasn't his very first post on this forum, just his first post under that Username after his previous one got banned.

Listen pal....you lost all ability to comment on logic when you were stupid enough to think that a one off race is more important than the Championship he was hired to win.

I mean it's honestly fucking hilarious that someone would be dumb enough to even post what you did.  You can't possibly be that dumb right?  Musta been trolling and I fell for it....
