The video of the counter snipers, it does appear they hesitated until after the shooting started.
I wonder if the protocol was they had to get the "green light" from the event commander before firing? Or that they could only fire if fired upon?
Can't understand why else they would not have just taken him out instantly. The crowd saw the guy and was yelling, the counter snipers probably could not hear the crowd but it had to come over their communications there was a sniper. Only seconds to act but they still hesitated until shots were fired. Has to be a reason they didn't fire immediately. Not as a "conspiracy" but maybe a failure of SOP or scene management?

This is far from my wheelhouse, but I read a thought that the snipers photographed may have been looking further away than the shooter was. A supporting argument was that the sniper looked up, out of the scope, after the first incoming shot. It looks to me like they never fired at all and that the shooter was killed by someone else.
People here love to share their disgust about things they imagine Biden or other Democrats could do, while ignoring the things Trump has actually done.

From the grainy video, it didn't look to me that that guy shot. Pretty decent recoil on a .300 win mag.
They surely have green light to engage someone who is a threat. My total guess is he was making sure it wasn't one of their own guys first. Probably boggles the mind that bad guy can get that close.

Just saw a different video of sniper and does look like he had scope looking much farther down range, looked up to locate him, and when he went back to the scope at the very end of the video clip it looked like he had to drop muzzle quite a bit to get on target. Makes sense really, snipers aren't thinking about the threat 100 yards out... that's supposed to be other people's job. He was probably scanning tree lines and buildings well beyond where the shot came from.
That's my take. Maybe even also a communications lapse between feds and locals. No doubt there will be adjustments to SOPs going forward.

The “threat to democracy” is a campaign slogan fully protected by the 1st Amendment. Just like the shooter’s access to a rifle was fully protected by the 2nd amendment.
Words didn’t almost take out Trump, a bullet did. Who’s on board with repressing free speech in exchange for access to firearms?

You can use this event as a reminder and point out that over the top rhetoric about threat to democracy and comparisons to Hitler aren't a great idea without that being taken as blame. It's a reminder everyone needs to hear.
It would be nice if some politicians or their home health aid that runs their social media between diaper changes deleted some old posts and committed themselves to avoiding such language in the future, but I know that's asking a lot.

So people were able to get pictures of him lining up the shot and a local police officer climbed up on the roof to confront him but didn't have a gun so retreated back down his ladder right before the shots fired. We are such a joke of a country sometimes.
That came across as him defending Trump to you? Very weird.
