Taking a Road Trip

Please b careful driving up there.  Try not to be near trucks in traffic in you can. I don’t trust any of them. Passing them I make sure the shoulder is decent because they will run you out of a lane. A lot of break downs with the heat. A lot of illegals do a 30 min break on the shoulder . When it’s over they don’t look in the mirror or use there directional , they knife onto the rd sharp. . Cars cut a tanker off from getting ovr for this sat. It almost caused a chain reaction big wreck. People r impatient & crazy now.  In Ga. 90 mi out of atl I was going 78 on a down hill passing a trk pretty fast. 5 illegals in a beater pu passed me on the left shoulder. Hitting the grass fish tailing . We hv this happening all the time. We don’t even reach for our phone to call anymore when they fly into the ditch. Aprox 300k truckers quit every week now or more. Traveling is not what it was . July 8 another revenue maker / dot nation wide sting starts. Aug is another that 1 includes everybody . Safe driving awareness bs. No one is safe driving now. 

The tanker I spoke of tried to change lanes , cars mashed on it . Trk on shoulder cut into tanker . Tanker cut into left lane with cars. Cars now on shoulder fish tailing. I lost a ton of cool pals in trk wrecks. No joke out here now, honestly when I make it anywhere it’s almost a miracle. Co.s have not made any money in 3 1/2 yrs so they don’t do any maintenance because they don’t hv to money. The rates out west r the worst in the country so there no way to pay for maintenance. I saw a guy with plywood for trl doors. Haha Out west most drivers r on meth when they pass ya. It looks like there being electrocuted. I call it drug shock. Then they black out & wreck. Even the exp drivers with 30+ yrs exp don’t leave the rd anymore to avoid a big wreck. They do what they can to avoid it or try to make it a smaller wreck. But no one is ditching a trk anymore because these trks crush ya to death. I mention here in the sticks in Mo. that all the trks here r 1099 Chicago. Security gal laughed and said yeah there all foreigners . How would you like my job dealing with the people that don’t understand anything and speak no English. 

There are lots of fires through the middle of Oregon right now, try to avoid the 5 through Southern Oregon. If you stop and camp/sleep around Eureka/Arcata, The Samoa Cookhouse is a must have breakfast. There are some small dunes to ride around on out there, too. Looking at their website, they may be closed...bummer. Also, Ferndale is really cool, Humboldt Creamery has the best Blue Cheese in the world. Trinidad has beautiful beaches. Garberville has The Lost Coast with black sand beaches. If you want a condensed tour of the Redwoods, the Arcata Community Forest is a great idea. They filmed the Ewoks in Star Wars in this area.

It might be farther off of 5 than you want to go, but Crater Lake is pretty cool. 

You can ride out to the beach at Coo’s. I think you need an Off Road Use decal…but, maybe not on a street legal bike…?

What are you riding?

Okay, that makes sense! I was wondering how you planned to ride that far on basically a 450 MX bike! Looks like you and the wife are enjoying life big time! I graduated from Humboldt State and have a lot of knowledge in that area. If you stay up in the Eureka area, let me know and I can point you to a few other areas to visit. We also lived in Ashland Oregon for 5 years, but I think the fires are going to be really bad this year and I would avoid anything other than the coast through Northern California and Oregon.

Sounds like an awesome trip--I'm very jealous. I've been to Washougal about six times when I worked for the Airlines and was lucky enough to race four of those years on my cousins, bike and two years on mine.

The facility and track is easily the most beautiful in the country if not the world. Motocross Heaven.

The dirt is very deceiving though, it looks rich and loamy but can be very slippery. I nearly high-sided bad one year coming out of a fast corner.

As far as having things to do, jumping in the river on the road to the track is always fun. There's a bridge a little north of it. 

I will say Washington has the best strip joints in the nation. But I guess you won't be going in there....

Olympic peninsula is awesome. Hoh rainforest comes to mind which is part of it. 

Lots of areas similar to this up there. 

Kalama River. About 30 miles north of Vancouver, Wa. Exit 32 off I-5. I spread my grandfathers ashes here.
