Did anyone find any coverage from any of the media outlets from Mammoth MX 2024. Specifically big bike weekend?

The only thing you had to cover was your wallet because$ keeps flying out if you race Mammoth - LOL. Little more expensive this year, but everything is these days. Only odd things was you paid for practice the day before the race but you could not ride practice until you paid again to get in the gate.

Oh mammoth, by far my favorite race of the year! No other race like it, the track and elevation offer a physical challenge you won’t find at any other track. No other race where there are 10-15 guys all within a second of my speed. These items combine to give you the battle of your life each time that gate drops. I’ve been going for 12 years straight, I’ve earned bears in 2013,2017,2018, and finally again this year in 24. 2013 and 2017 I got the coveted big bears! I straight trained my ass off for those damn bears this year and it was fucking grand to get some again.

but god damn the sneaky greed of the promoter, he knows he has us by the fucking balls and he squeezes harder each year. This years bullshit spectator pass was a grand surprise for all whom signed up, without any warning and after knowing you’ve trained, travelled and paid for everything else, they decided to add in a $75 spectator fee to all the racers at the gate. I literally yelled out “fucking greedy ass Myron” when I was told that, wasn’t even on purpose, it just came out. The entire booth of girls laughed and said, that’s what literally everyone has said this morning.

I own a small business, I understand the expenses of things and I am all for people making a profit, just be up front about it, don’t sneak that shit in when there’s no chance for you to decide it’s too much.

This year I decided last minute to sign up and race Mammoth in the +40A and +50A classes as I have not raced there since 2010. I bit the bullet, rented a condo, took my son, my buddy and his son. We made it up on Thursday and it was feeling like an epic weekend was about to commence.

Well, we woke up Friday at 3:15am to get in line for practice so we could get a parking spot, like you mentioned the entry fee was $25 per person, per day whether you are a spectator or rider, and this was not disclosed or mentioned anywhere beforehand. I was now in another $300.00 to buy our wristbands for the weekend plus the communication from the promoter was done via text (that you are told not to text back to) which would have been fine if there was actual details regarding the practicing, where and when to meet for the parking as it sure seemed to be geared all around the banning of Surrons, motorized vehicles, carts, and SXS's damn near anywhere in the vicinity of Mammoth. As I mentioned, this was my first trip back to Mammoth Motocross since 2010 and I remembered last that we needed to be parked on the road into the track and staged super early to get a spot in the pits or you were left out in the overflow lot. Up at 3:15am and to the locked gate leading into the track by 3:45. Shit, we are first in line sweet... Nope we waited another 20 mins and no one came so I knew something was wrong. We then drove back to the corner tree where you go from the pavement road to the dirt road leading to the track. Still, no one was there which is where I remembered getting wristbands years ago, we flagged down a worker who told us to go back down the road to the overflow parking lot and get into line. WHAT, well when we originally drove by there on our way in there was no one flagging anyone down, no signs, not squat, there was a light at the parking lot with some vehicles, but I did not notice that this is where you now stage. WTF, I was pissed that I just blew my time (and spot) near the gate entry to the track and now they are telling me to get into row 5 and I might get into the pits if I am lucky.

Now I sit and wait in the gravel parking lot and was blessed with a few young ladies swinging over to let me know that there is the new entry fee. Again, $300.00 bucks that I was not expecting after my dual entry fees for the racing, but it is what it is. We have driven too far and spent too much to turn around now... I was lucky enough to able to get in the pits all the way back in the next to last row that was let in. On to practice...

Bikes prepped, and ready to practice. Oops, just realized that I left my transponder at home on the charger. Get in line, rent a transponder, chat with Jamie at Twisted for mountain maps and Fonzy at Fasthouse before rolling out for practice. Rode multiple practices and after working on suspension was getting the lap times down and down with each session. Decided to go out one more time (bad idea) with some settings from Pro Circuit and as I am sure you could guess, I bit it big time on the big uphill just past the start area. I was riding the edge of the track and believe that I clipped the edge wall with my footpeg in one of the bumps going up the hill and was instantly shot sideways into another one of the curbs, went over the bars landing on my butt, to back, to head the getting run into by another rider that apologized for not having a way to stop in time. I'm hurting big time right about now. Besides my body damage the bike was jacked, the bar mounts were destroyed, broken throttle, broken clutch, broken front brake. Kawasaki was kind enough to get my son all of the parts to get my bike back in working order. My boy was able to get it all back together and tested while I was over at the track medical unit. Off to the ER...

Friday at the hospital sucks, the medical staff was fantastic, but I was hoping that there was some way I would be able to man up and get better in a few hours to still race, but no luck. (3) broken ribs, hematoma on my rear and side plus a few cuts and some abrasions. Went back to the condo and tried to eat, then sleep and again, if there is any way to just suck it up and go racing maybe I can salvage the weekend??? Not in the cards as I cannot sleep and can barely walk at this point. Trip done... Got up Saturday morning and decided to pack everything up and just head home, too damn depressed to stay up and watch the epic racing. Maybe next year? No, if I am going to spend the money and time I might as well go all out and make it a trip to the ranch. LL25 is where my head is at right now, but we will see.

So, there was a $25 per day…per person…gate fee for everyone? Even racers?

And this wasn’t mentioned in the pre-entry emails?

Yeah, the new spectator tak-on fee was not forecasted in any registration fee from 2xPromotions. I’ve been going off/on since ‘82 (when Bailey/Omara/Johnson/Hanson attended) and this is a first. If it wasn’t a surprise i would have been less upset and could have budgeted for it or decided not to go or qualify.

Must be new.

I didn’t go this year, but every other year the participants didn’t pay a gate fee, we got checked off the list, just spectators in the truck had to pay the gate fee.

That’s why I asked. Raced Mammoth many times…including last year. Rode my eMTB in every day. No bs fees for racers.

Paying daily for something I’ve already paid for…would annoy the shit outta me.

An explanation would be nice.

I wasn’t able to go this year but my friends said every person entering each day cost $25 and they weren’t told about it until Friday morning.

I guess there was early entry passes sold also for $600 so you could go in at 4:45.

On the brighter side, I’d recommend staying long enough before the race and make a vacation out of it. Tons of hiking, mountain biking, legal forest service trails for dual sports. And it will help you get acclimated to the 8500’ elevation.

Isn't the promoter the one that called the cops on CCMX for practicing during Covid? Nope not going to get my money until he's gone. Sad to see not much has changed on the mountain. Boycott MM25.

I’ve heard that as well, absolute POS guy if true. As I mentioned earlier, I hate having to give him money but that fuckers got us by the balls. Mammoth is just too rad!! And again, I own a small business, it’s fucking hard to make a profit in Ca and I have no problem if people set their price and I choose to pay it. But the bullshit move of sneaking that shit in on your loyal clients that have been supporting that event for decades is just wrong.

Hopefully someday soon a new promoter can get it!

Yep 100% I even went back to my emails and signs ups to check if I just missed it and I couldn’t find a single mention that every racer would now have to pony up another $75 per human for the weekend.

Fun race, but it’s definitely turned into a money grab.
