Jett Lawrence to Miss Remainder of AMA Pro Motocross With Thumb Injury

The season just got better. Red Bud will be amazing, I should go.

If the best guy being out is an improvement to you, why do you even watch? Surely there is a local race that has the battles...

I'm going to Dilla and Budds. Yay! Don't get to see the best rider on Earth in person! Woohoo! What an improvement!

Guess we’ll never see a Jett vs. Tomac outdoor battle

That’s the battle I was looking forward to seeing. Anyway, It would be said Jett was not 100%  and that’s why ET3 beat him.

"That's why ET3 beat him." Getting a little ahead of yourself. I don't see Eli running with Chase and Hunter coming off the couch

I think Eli is going to send it right out of the gate.
I tore the UCL in both of my thumbs in two different incidents. I was still riding my sled until the surgery on my left thumb and had physical therapy right after the procedure. You can still train in that cast . Eli’s determination, fitness and everyone knows what he can do in MX.

Does it not seem strange to have 3 top riders in the top 6 in the AMA world out with the exact same injury within 4 months of each other? Is there some training technique being taught that is making the injury more likely, or riding technique, or is it just plain random bad luck?

Looking at the calendar it seems  like Jett will be cutting it close in his recovery if he wants to make the September 7th SMX round.

Did some random research on it when it became a pattern and it sounds like it's a common result when trying to break your fall -

A proximal thumb avulsion fracture at the insertion of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) occurs when the UCL's distal attachment is torn from its insertion into the base of the thumb's proximal phalanx. This can happen when the thumb is hyperabducted, such as when someone falls on an outstretched hand. This injury is also known as skier's thumb because it's common in skiers who fall while holding onto their poles.

I'd love it if you're right and I'm wrong. Even if his fitness is still where it needs to be, he'll still have been off the bike all this time. Jumps into the series and wins motos? I just don't see it

The ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) is a ligament that runs on the inner side of the elbow to help support it when performing certain motions, such as throwing. When this ligament is torn or damaged, it can lead to pain, elbow instability and loss of function.

I was surprised to read about the UCL. Came across this.

For some, it could take as long as two months. If you require surgery to fix your damaged ligament, it routinely takes at least nine months to heal and regain the strength and stability in your arm

Its probably coincidental that we had drug testing at a recent round and then a thumb injury. Definitely a stretch but much stranger things have happened.

Ok I'm doing some serious mental gymnastics trying to come up with any connection you might have but I simply can't.

Please share how you came from Jett submitting a routine PED test, to season ending thumb injury.
