RC learned a new word this weekend...

7/7/2024 6:14am Edited Date/Time 7/7/2024 6:19am

So I’ll tell a little story about what outsiders think of RC, and our sport in general, this is 100% true.

A buddy of mine owns an investment company in the Midwest, I’ve never asked what his net worth is, but I know it’s in the neighborhood of 500 million. He doesn’t know a thing about sx/mx, but he sponsors a Porsche team and he likes watching racing.

I approached him about being the title sponsor on a private team, so he agreed to look at it. I took him to two events and introduced him to some people and showed him around, then he went to two on his own to get an outsiders perspective and he also watched a few on TV, here are his thoughts.

His first thought is every race should be a triple crown, the average attender doesn’t want to see nobodies racing.

He said the factory teams have a good presence, but the Monster girls give it a white trash feel.

He said he can’t believe Mathes is the face of journalism in the sport, said he came off as arrogant, and completely unprofessional in his manner and appearance

When he watched it on tv he said Ricky sounded like an uneducated person trying to sound educated and has no business being the face of the commentator staff

He now enjoys watching on tv when he catches it, but it’s just not the type of people he wants to be involved with, he doesn’t think the leaders in the sport take the sport seriously or professionally

And this is why our sport will never grow

Edit: he watched a race from last year before the season started and said they were stupid for letting Blair go.

Some of you guys would complain about a BJ

It is the highest level of moto on the planet and we have a third grader as the face of it.  It's ridiculous and he brings no value and somehow is getting worse.

I love Ricky because he is the goat of a generation but I struggle to watch him or hear him talk any time he’s under pressure, wether on the broadcast or on title 24, it fucks me up. I still respect him enough to not say anything rude or fucked up about him because of his legacy and all the great memories of him in the sport, but goddamn. However, I’m glad he’s still in the sport and I get to remember all the great racing he provided us with. Long live the GOAT

I'd be curious to know what his thoughts are on MXGP.

Two different packages when it comes to broadcasting. One caters to casual viewers, and the other caters to the hardcore fan of the sport. There's no dumbing down things across the pond.

Just call the race.

Question is:  why does NBC continue to deliver a sub-standard product?  Former racers with minimal training perform better than RC, who as opposed to Fro, has shown little if any development over his broadcasting career. The program producers cannot be blind to the incessant on-air blunders, and their reluctance to make a change is frustrating.

Wasn't there a big ceremony made last year, about him finally getting a high school diploma?

I agree to a point, but have lost a ton of respect for him as a professional.  I absolutely respect everything he did on the bike, but that was an eternity ago at this point and does not give him a free pass to suck in a high profile role like the analyst.  I also agree he belongs in the sport and can bring a lot to a Team or something, but please take the mic away.

I think he is a lot better on Title 24, where he can call things more as he sees them.  His attitude and candor seem much different and mature on Title 24 to me.

I actually think RC would be best placed in the pits getting info on what is going on. The riders don’t want someone sticking a mic in their faces between races but he has been there himself and he won’t need to ask the stupid questions to find out what is going on. They have so much filler time. Get some real content

I'm in the minority on Will and don't mind her at all but RC was really bad today , especially after rewatching the races .

I mentioned this before, while we were in school learning proper English, RC was at a track on his dirt bike burning laps under the watchful eye of Jeannie, stick in one hand stopwatch in the other. Any successful person acknowledges that there were sacrifices along the way. If asked I'm sure "The GOAT" wouldn't change a thing. 💰

You guys that don't mute the broadcast please keep that in mind while having to endure the Rickisms 😉

It’s all fun for me as well. We started a drinking game where anytime he says a rickyism, you take a sip. My fridge was empty by the end of the first motos yesterday 😂

I don't personally have any complaints towards the broadcast. If something goofy is said, I just ignore it and when they say something interesting, I'll pay attention.

But just curious, out of all the former racers, is there anyone else who is willing to travel every weekend for SX, MX and SMX? That's one hell of a commitment. Love or hate RC, you have to appreciate his willingness to continue that hectic schedule after all the traveling during his amateur and pro days.

Haha. Me too. I’m old for sure and we have two full generations of riders since he retired. Crazy.

Well “we talked about it”

7/7/2024 3:20pm

RC needs to go, he's terrible trying to be a announcer and adds nothing to the broadcast. To bad they let Blair go as he was by far the best, but then again Blair is good enough to move up to better things where RC is just plain awful and never seems to improve.

Just call the race.

I'd suspect he'd be more positive about MXGP.  Gypsy Ho always goes on about wanting to emulate F1, and MXGP is far closer to that than Pro Motocross/SX.  F1 and MXGP have a European sensibility - more class, less hype, more subdued. SX in particular is way too circus like - which is to be expected when it's run by a circus company.

Thanks for this.  Very informative.  Did he mention how the fans look?  Especially in SX they don't do much for the aim of growing the sport beyond the blue collar demographic (if that's what people want).

I don't think so.  I think the major problem with RC - beyond his struggles with the English language - is that he doesn't bring any depth or insight to the broadcast.  Stew does this - he just needs to be more concise with his observations. RC would not ask interesting questions in the pits, nor would he be funny like Deano (when he was doing something similar during SX).

When the announcing breaks down, it's bad, which makes it not as good.

The problem with the commentary in our sport there is no main figurehead, Weege while he can call what he see's in front of him he is generally clueless and lacks awareness, his main problem is he gives far too much respect for the ex-pro/champion riders in the booth, he does not and never has owned the broadcast.

If we had a Paul Malin type figure and RC/Ex-pro as far second fiddle it would be a lot cleaner.

What needs fuck off the most are these mid race interviews, no fucking clue why they feel the need to ad in a rider instagram interview mid race, surely you can find a more appropriate timing for this type of content, and the random cut of the race hole shot nearing the end of the race? why? These things make it feel cheap.

At the end of the day you have us core fans we aren't going anywhere we've put up with this shit since the early 2000s most of us have learnt to ignore it, but if you are chasing new comers and new fans make it more quality because at the moment this is not and has not been quality for 20 years.
