Ducati wins first ever GNC Dirt Track

Edited Date/Time 1/9/2012 1:04pm
Joe Kopp put a last lap pass on race leader Sam Halbert (H-D) to win the Mile at the Yavapai Downs race in Prescott , Arizona . He was riding the 1098 Ducati Hypermotard powered machine prepared by the Lloyd Brothers team.

Good job, Dave , Mike , Joe, and crew.

Well, it's obvious that it's high time for the AMA to pass a new rule to make Harley's the only brand that wins anything again. How about they just make a rule like "no bike brand other than Harley Davidson is allowed to compete"? Wouldn't that do the trick? That way, they don't have to keep making up new rules to prevent other brands from making fast motorcycles.

Seriously, it's cool to see someone (ANYONE) other than HD win one of those races.

Larry Pegram ran well on a Duc at springfield last year until he broke.

Fucking unbelievable. One race win for the Duc and the DMG mafia was at the Lloyd brothers pit area before the dust even settled with a set of restrictors in hand.

That is absolutely NOT true. The 38mm restrictor was discussed with the Lloyd Bros racing team prior to practice. The intake on the ducati is about 35mm with no place to put the restrictor. Lloyd Bros and AMA Pro tech are working together on this project.

We are working extremely hard to bring other brands into flat track...not run them off. The Joe Kopp/Ducati win was very impressive.

This event was about 15 miles away and I missed it. My son went and helped the track crew and he said he had a blast. The last flat track I went to was the Del Mar mile a while back and they brought out the tz 750 for a couple of laps. That was worth the price of admission seeing and hearing that TZ. Congrats to Yavapai downs and whoever made this happen. Very cool.

Doesn't that kind of make a restrictor unnecessary when the intake path is already smaller than the plate?

Wow, Ducati gets to hop up the bike so the restrictor plates will actually be able to work? That's some funny shit right there. Looks like Harley and the AMA will have to come up with something new this week. LOL.

OK Mike. Are you saying Joe Kopp is a liar? Read the very last paragraph of his race report from Yavapai Downs. Why would he say such a thing if there is no truth to it? DMG did not approach Kopp with restrictors in hand? Interesting.

Why would DMG issue a set of restrictors to the Ducati team if this is the case?

Because they don't know what they are doing...
