And so did a few other riders, wasn't just Star. As long as motorsports has been around every racer and team has tried to find ways to circumvent the rules...if you don't think teams in F-1, IndyCar, NASCAR or any other series aren't cheating in some way then you're not paying attention. In NASCAR it happens weekly it seems and in IndyCar this year Team Penske got caught with a software go around that gave them unlimited use of push to pass. What made it even worse was that Penske owns IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! The only reason people are up in arms about this is because Deegan is on the team...it is really a nothing burger compared to some of the other stuff teams are doing....like what is Honda doing to get the advantages they have on the starts?

I don’t think Honda are cheating as such but they’ve got something dialed ecu wise , I think it’s the fact that Deegan got away with it yet again and the other didn’t , if there bikes were over the db limit then Deegans would of been , it’s the circus that comes with it that gets people backs up , like the bullshit with Brian at Loretta’s , in Haidens defence it’s not his fault it’s stars but cheating is cheating

I think the problem here is that the Star bikes were failing sound checks all day and riders were being docked points after the second moto, but somehow Deegan's bike was not tested because it wasn't "running right". But it did finish, stopped overheating and was revved in celebration last everyone saw

At Supercross, all bikes are sound tested at each round as a part of the technical inspection process. Then there are random mid-day and post-race tests. Some rounds they won't do the pre-race test due to conditions (so many other buildings around that the reverberation is bad, or heavy humidity days).

Pro Motocross doesn't do pre-race sound checks but there is a sound limit in place. Some teams try to skim by outdoors running less restricted setups until they get popped by a random test.

This is great info. At supercross these teams have there ecu set on a different setting just for sound in pre race tech. Then once they pass the normal map gets switched back. Then for random checks a neutral map keeps the RPMs in a different range. If they can put the bikes in gear more often they would catch a lot more people. Theres a lot more than just sound they could catch these teams on too.

The bike is in gear when they test, neutral switches haven't been usable for a while because of it. We had our's set to engage in first or second...

Bikes are in neutral during Sx sound testing on Fridays.

If you think that’s dumb, do you feel the same about failed drug tests?

this question is so stupid i almost didnt reply. there is an astronomical difference in a muffler failing a post moto sound test, and a rider failing a drug test. 🤦🏽

I’m not saying that did or didn’t happen but all we have at this point is rumor and hearsay.
not every Star bike was tested so it’s possible that it wasn’t attempted (not saying it wasn’t) hopefully we’ll know at some point. Honestly nobody knows at this point.

Listening to the Kickstart podcast it sounds like they didnt take the bike down to impound until after the 2nd 450 moto and it wouldn't run right. So what were they doing to the bike that whole time? Why didn't it go straight to impound after he rode it to the podium?

Dumping sand down the air box lol

I thought He had cut the track . JT said that he had made a mistake and got back onto the track, and cut it unintentionally . He may have gone to the AMA and told them what happened and that was how JT knows it was unintended.  I did not hear an explanation of why people were thinking it was the failed sound test. Maybe because of so many others failing?

Ben Robinson is the rider that had a 205 ish.

Back when the times did not count for anything, there was a local pro I knew that would cut the track to get his name on the print out's. He figured out a spot he was able to cut without being seen. They did not watch for cutting back then since it wasn't going to help You at all.  Everybody would always wonder how a guy who was always outside the top 20 at a local race was able to get such a fast lap.  One of my buddies that had a legit top10 lap time in the 450 class ( 6, 7 maybe 8th so long ago I can't remember )  was asking him what lines he was taking. Hoping to knock some more time off his laps and he told him.

I’ve seen various team bikes go thru sound & have some silencers pass and some fail. Especially during the 1st few SX races when they’re testing “an assortment” of silencers.

Exhaust companies used to have inserts between the mid pipe and muffler when I raced to pass sound.

It's interesting the star bikes are in question for being too loud and I've heard a few riders now in interviews talk about hearing the star bikes coming up from behind them.

Gotcha, I think on the review pod they were saying he lost it for sound but I did hear them mention the track cut on the Pulp show.

So can these bike change maps with the push of a button? What if the map is changed to one that makes the bike not start or run at all or even blow it up?  I don't know I am just asking.

That’s the air box noise they can hear. It’s a completely different thing than exhaust. The Yamahas with the air box up front are loud with a lot of air being sucked in.

Why doesn’t the ama require a data logger? Pretty simple to figure out who is playing with sound maps that way.

This isn’t James Bond with the ejectors seat button lol. Theoretically you can put a map in that is incredibly lean and force a failure but that seems pretty asinine

ML, need a shot of the rumored sound map switch that is allegedly hidden under fuel tanks on the next pit bits.

Don't need one, you can setup the ECU to automatically drop into a sound map if it's in first gear and you crack the throttle from 0-100 in a certain time frame after the bike has been started.

Basically, you can arm it where in the first say...15 seconds you have the bike running it can arm the start map if the bike goes 0-100% throttle position in under 1 second. That's a rough description. I had something similar to that system when I had my janky team.

Oddly enough, same bikes, same ECU, same exhaust spec...one bike would pass and the other wouldn't at some rounds.

You're team wasn't "Janky", just under funded.  Remember Roosevelt's quote about "the man in the arena".

Wow after listening to pulp last night and Deegan bike not starting after it left the podium is a joke. There wasn’t eyes on the bike the whole time then it magically does not start. This is why there needs to have eyes on the bikes the whole time after the race just like there is in other forms of Motorsports.

I get that it's weird that Deagan's bike mysteriously couldn't start for sound check, be t the kid could be running a damn spark arrestor and he'd still win.

If we have sound test and the number one problem and complaint about tracks is sound. Why do we not lower the sound. Maybe something like utility quad levels. Am I crazy here.

Did you not see the smoke it was producing second moto?

This tells me how much of the race you watched, you should have clearly seen the smoke coming out of his bike second moto.

Deeg's bike was venting from the breather tube, not the exhaust. And it stopped after Vialle crashed and he quit abusing the clutch. The last lap it quit smoking and finished, but yes, if it had failed sound he would have been docked points the same as Smith. I do disagree with the rule and think it  should be a fine on the team (my opinion) ...but I find it quite interesting that it wouldn't run

On the Moto 60 show Matthes explained it…Smith was penalized because he failed twice, both pre and post race, Deegan passed his test after practice so even if he didn’t pass post race he would not have been docked any points. He also said that Deegan runs a different silencer than the rest of the team…everyone can take their tinfoil hats off and put their torches down now…
