Am I smoking crypto? All the sound check penalties came out of first qualifying session. Max and some other Star guys lost their fast lap. I too thought it was weird that Deegan didn’t fail the sound check (maybe he wasn’t checked?). But it was all handled before the 2nd qualifier. Did they do more sound checks and dish out more penalties?

I got those 6 and half foot cables you need for the decibel meter. Who's running this show anyway.

I heard Steve Balboni was doing the tests

The sound tests have always been sort of mysterious to me. I have a YZ250F and it was stock, I don't know how it could ever pass any sound check. Now that is has mods, it seems even louder (but less raspy.) Everyone always talks about the Star 250s and how loud they are. And seeing them race in person, they seem to be the loudest bikes. So how do they ever pass any sound check in the first place? And when they do fail, then it just makes me wonder why this time compared to others? It's all very confusing.

lots of things in AMA ruling are "very confusing".......

remember the fuel "thing" with RC ?? ...remember the claim fiasco in Lorettas...... and more recently, Tom Vialle being docked points for unsafe riding of the track, when we all saw Deegan even jump backwards on track to not loose time.......

it has been like that for ever with AMA, top names get top treatment..... and foreigners have to race much more then just the other racers if they want to win ......

I have a ton of funny stories about the AMA and sound check from when it got implemented back in 2012ish. Stock bikes wouldn’t pass sound either. We were stuffing extra rags in the air box of the Hondas at Arlington, and Travis Bannister borrowed my 32mm socket and stuck it in his mid pipe to pass. So many funny stories

Passed many sound checks with the old socket in the head pipe trick. lol

Who cares? Let’s just enjoy watching Deegan ride the way he does. His balls to the wall style is fun and impressive to watch.

I’m surprised they can even build an engine to last a full moto with how hard he rides.

When was the last time ama has ever done this for sound? Glad to hear they are finally doing there jobs hopefully it continues and not make at southwick bc of the township. There’s a lot of cheating with sound in the sport especially with neutral maps and other tricks.

The sound test after practice was only at Supercross so when exactly did they start doing it during the nationals?

All bikes had to pass a sound test during inspection during tech to get the passed sticker.

The teams can still change the inserts in the silencers.

In the swedish enduro championship it was common that they would measure the diameter of the insert in the silencer during the service mid race to see that people don’t go through tech inspection with a quiet insert, get the exhaust marked and then change to a louder one after that.

I had mine sound checked after one of the qualifiers after I coincidentally jumped up like 20 spots from one qualifier to the next. It didn’t feel very random as they were waiting for me as soon as I exited the track to pull me aside. This was the first time I had ever experienced a post-practice “random” sound test outdoors and this was over a year ago.

Its pretty crazy that this came out now because I was standing next to the fence at the first turn and my apple watch alerted me at about 3 quarters of the way through the second 250 moto that I was being exposed to 90db of sound and not to exceed 30 minutes at that level. I showed my dad and he said the bikes are tested and should never reach 90db but there we were. After the last 450 race was over we saw them bringing bikes up near the last turn to do sound check and then heard that a few had failed. Makes a lot of sense now. I stand in the same exact spot every year and that has never happened before. Anyone elses smart watch warn them too?

No wonder Deegs bike blew up! This is not cool by the AMA though, the rider has no control over the muffler on the machine or the part failure. Has to be a better way

I heard they were running taller gearing than usual so HD wasn’t revving the bike out as badly through the gears. That could explain a bit of the clutch issue we saw.

How’s that not cool by ama. They are doing there jobs. Sorry that the rider has to take the punishment. It’s just like in other motorsports when cars have cheated up parts on them. The driver didnt put them on but the crew did and the team and rider get penalized big deal

The rider doesn't know much about the bike...he has other things to worry about. The sponsor puts the parts on and supposed to be good. But championship points are at stake?

You do realize that they also pulled others besides two Star bikes….like the kid that was the fastest qualifier and they pulled his fast time and he didn’t qualify…but of course according to you the AMA is some big conspiracy…

I know who they pulled and got penalized but I also look at the entire history of the AMA not with blind eyes and not just Hayden's career LOL

Listening to the Kickstart podcast it sounds like they didnt take the bike down to impound until after the 2nd 450 moto and it wouldn't run right. So what were they doing to the bike that whole time? Why didn't it go straight to impound after he rode it to the podium?

He already posted a video on it.

Im no sound professional but being at southwick I heard a lot of bikes that seemed way louder than any of the star bikes where I was watching…but what do I know 🤷🏻‍♂️
