Thank you for putting Australia where it is today in the world of Motocross.
The memories of screaming so hard for you whilst leading the worlds best at this very circuit back in 2000 will never be forgotten...

I can also remember Andrew on a 50, he was so smooth and fast you just knew he was going to go a long way. Back then the junior meetings were 2 day events, families camped out at the track and the kids all had a great time. The Mcfarlanes had a Kawasaki dealership in Brisbane and used to set up a tent selling gear and parts at the races.A big thank you Andrew for the races that you ,Burner and Reedy put on before you all went overseas and did us proud !!!!

He suffered severe head injuries in the crash and after trying for about an hour, paramedics were unfortunately unable to revive Andrew.

Racing was immediately suspended (not surprisingly). However his family asked that the days racing proceed so, as a mark of respect, all races were cut to 3 laps.

We have truly lost one of the good guys of the sport...

Andrew always seemed so awesome to me, I've never done more than get an autograph from him but man was he rad to my young eyes. He was from an awesome place, he was always appreciative of his fans, and most importantly I have NEVER, ever heard anything bad about him. In this day and age where everyone has something to say, I think that speaks volumes for him.

It kills me that this happened. RIP Andrew, you will always be remembered for generations

What a sad day for us all. I was in pure shock for a few hours at the track. It still hasn't quit sunk in on me just yet i believe. We have lost a true champion.

My heart goes out to the entire McFarlane family, especially his wife Nat and little girl Tay.

This for some reason has hit me really hard. I told the wife none of my kids will be racing mx. If it's this bad now it's only going to get worse. The bikes are just getting too fast. Every effort seems to be made into motor performance and suspension but no effort seems to go into rider safety. Think about the difference in the size of jumps between now and 1980,when they first started building double jumps(huge difference) and think of the difference between what protection is out there for the riders between then and now. (very little difference). The only thing I can think of is a un-proven neck brace. We need to demand research into safety equipment. If companies put 10% of the amount of R&D effort they put into the performance of the bikes into the safety of the riders there would be a big difference but as it is now we never hear of any (0%) R&D research into protecting riders.

I wasn't at the track long because the event was over about an hour after I arrived but from the perimeter of the track it looked like a pretty safe sort of mx track. I didn't see any doubles, triples or stutters and all the jumps I could see looked safer than any track in the AMA or GP series. I would love to hear from a rider or someone who walked the full track, PJ?

I'm guessing it was just a real freak accident.

Very, very sad.

PJ I totally understand if you don't want to talk about it, but I was wondering how it happened?

I am not one of those guys that are into sickly details, just wondering how it happened that's all.

PJ we can't begin to imagine what you guys must be going through also. To be there and witness it must have been unexplicably horrific...

Good luck to you and your team for the rest of the season. I'm sure yourself, Tye and Doggy will all do the team proud.

As I'm sure you're probably aware by now the Australian MX community is a very tight knit one, so you will all have plenty of support from the MX fans and I'm sure from Sharkys family also.

Best of luck mate
