Southwick , the Aussies are coming

6/28/2024 7:39pm

Honestly, the guy got taken out by a digger on a live track, as he was doing a superpole lap and crested a blind jump. Got well injured. I cut him slack trying to get  back into shape after this. If i recall correctly he was upfront that season when it happened. Just a bad deal allround.

Jett is good in the sand because he lets off the brakes and floats over the deep bumps. He looks slow, slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

AJS in WA is probably one of the roughest sand tracks in the world on its day, and Webster makes it look easy. I’ll be putting him in my fantasy picks this weekend. Also keep an eye out for Minear in the combines later this year. Hasn’t shown it Nationally yet really but locally in WA he is a weapon too 🔥👍

Minear was riding really well at Murray Bridge, had a gnarly crash in the first Moto and got back up and charged. He hit the ground hard

We’ve had Coolum and Wonthaggi pretty consistently for the past decade or so. Wonthaggi has some clay sections and sandier sections but I don’t think Southwick would be that much softer and I don’t think it would be as sandy as Coolum. Add in Rosebud for the vicco’s (isn’t Webster in Beatons program?) and Hervey Bay for the QLDrs, the Manjimup event and other sand tracks from WA and I think Aussies get a good dose of soft tracks.

Also Jett and Hunter are from the Landsborough / Beerwah / Glasshouse area, plenty of sand tracks between Steve Irwin Way and the Highway they would have been regularly riding as kids.

Rosebud, brutal for an old c grader.

Yeah I probably shouldn’t have said hasn’t shown it because he’s doing well, but he’s a different rider when in WA on tracks he knows. For example he caught and passed Webster in Manji moto 1 for the win. Won king of the sand last year at AJS on a 350f im pretty sure. Hopefully he can figure it out and ride at that level away from home 🙏

Wasn’t Mossy more doped up than a race horse back then?

What a dick thing to say.

Yeah what did the horses do to deserve that call out?

I find it bad taste to bring up drug doping accusations, Southwick was 2009, not 2017.

Accusations, yes, they used on over the counter supplement, a bad decision, but understandably a mistake.

Webstar is fucking fast. Be a dark horse for a top 5! Dont write him off boys.

Pretty awesome to have these guys make the trek to the US and have a go for a couple of rounds of our series.  Good luck to them.  Stoked that the off weekend is finally over 👍

He is fast, but saying that a 8-12 finish would be good, is not writing him off, just being realistic. He’s coming in without prep and riding a bike and track he’s never raced before.

If he places top 10 that’d be great imo. Look at who’d be in front of him and compare their programs. All experienced factory riders with the Nationals as their current top priority.
Webster still has an Aussie title to go home and win as his and his team’s main objective.

A top 5 would be unfuckingbelievable and shocking.

yep agree i put big emphasis on a rider not knowing a track, that makes a huge difference. Still hopeful of a top 10 though

Yeah was 38th with a crash after the start, got up to about 22nd, must have crashed again, went back to 26th, and climbed up to 17th by the end of moto 1.
Moto 2 started in 6th and I think Ferrandis was the only guy to pass him from there.
Overall pretty solid, but without the crashes, it could have been really good.

With a uneventful first race start he would have finished 7-8th on lap times. 7th in the last. Pretty damn impressive hey Johnny Ringo?

Webster had a good ride in moto 2 for sure.  This team for MXoN has serious potential.  Who rides the 250?

Going to be 6-7 teams that can podium and 3-4 with expectations to win barring crazy mishaps like the Dutch had in 2018...

I think that's a mistake, but just my opinion.  Good team still.  But I don't see him putting up a top 10 moto on a 250, Hunter can.

Whichever 250 guy drops a nice top 6 or 8 for their team is going to give their team a big advantage.  Vialle can do it, Deegan can do it, DeWolf can do it, Laengenfelder can do it and any one of the 3 Belgians can do it.  Maybe 1 or 2 more, but not likely...  So what is the rest of the team going to look like for the those 250 riders?  Germany is missing a top 3rd guy, France is solid as usual, will be a good US team if the top guys can go, I like the Dutch odds this year with JH getting stronger, and can 2 of the 3 Belgian stars ride a 450?

Those are the teams going in with AUS also probably putting up multiple great 450 scores, but needing to overcome a 250 score that is more likely to be around 15th.

Where is Switzerland going to get their MX2 score from?  Italy has 3 good riders, but all 3 need to outperform their current 2024 pace.

Again, just my opinion...  But Webster doesn't strike me as a top 250 rider, Hunter does.  Sorry for drifting off so far towards MXoN....  Will be some fun on the prediction thread this year.

Webster will be fine if they can get a US Honda 250F, rather than a Aus or Firepower 250. Nothing against the Firepower team, they do amazing but a US factory 250F would be a big advantage, especially for the start. Otherwise getting Beaton on a Yamaha Factory 250F through European Yamaha guys would also work.
