Don't ask people to call names in this little niche world. Do you want products or "sicknesses" that is something we can talk about. Just like in other sports there are riders who have "Exercise-induced asthma" and are able to use inhalers sometimes with steroids in it. "ADHD" seems also an interesting sickness, from E-Sports to sports as ours where staying focused is important. It gives sport people a clearance to use amphetamines.

Another one that should be monitored better (because of the health of the riders) is cortisone. With a TUE you can get a injection on Thursday and race on Saturday.

Important to note that the inhalers with steroids contain corticosteroids, not anabolic steroids. Inhaled corticosteroids are NOT performance enhancing. It simply decreases airway inflammation.

I suggest you look at ß2-agonists inhalers, they’re what most of them use.

I think it may be cleaner than it used to be before any testing at all was being done.  Back in the early 2000's when I was at a lot of Nationals ,I heard stories. But never saw anything myself so I couldn't tell You if  people saw things that they misunderstood or if there was really some shady stuff going on.

A lot of people like to make up excuses for why they are not doing well. So I took a lot of those stories as excuses for why riders felt they were not doing as well. Perhaps the truth was someplace in the middle.

I always find it funny when there is a law or rule, and then a way around that law or rule.   Like why do You have that law or rule if it is ok for it to be broken sometimes? But I guess its just a part of the process. They can use data from exceptions to change the laws/rules in the future.  Either more or less strict. Like drug trials and other laws that evolve. If the start to notice that everybody who wins  has a TUE for a certain thing, or mix of things. They could change the rules in the future. And it allows people with legit issues an equal chance of competing.

It is cleaner without a doubt, because if I'm not mistaken there wasn't a thing to find about PED in the AMA rule book till 2002 or 2003. But someone with more knowledge can probably chip in on that. That is because USADA (the American WADA partner) wasn't interested in motocross & supercross and the AMA and/or MX and SX rights holders back than weren't looking for help from them.

The number of riders claiming thyroid issues is absurdly higher than the rate of thyroid issues in the general population of younger adult males. You almost never see younger guys on thyroid medicine for legit thyroid issues. Every time I hear a rider mention thyroid or getting a full blood panel or so other dumb term meaning the same thing I laugh.... yeah I'm sure you do feel much better a few weeks later....

Can we dig up the Jeff Alessi thread or has it been deleted?

Having a TUE does not mean you can use a drug at any level. For instance ADHD drugs used at the appropriate dosage will not give you an advantage. Those levels will be set by a doctor that is approved by the drug testing organization. This stops riders from paying Doctors to give them a prescription when they really don’t need the meds.

This most definitely does not stop riders from paying doctors to give them a prescription when they really don't need the meds. Just means they have a line they can't cross that by necessity is higher than normal levels. Thyroid levels can be very hard to get right even with best of intentions so any TUE limit will have to leave plenty of room for that.

Rider: "we figured out some stuff with my diet"
Interviewer: "what did you figure out?"
Rider: "Just some stuff that was off a little bit. We made a few changes and I feel much better now."

Is it legit? Could be, but if you want people to believe you a little transparency would be nice. If it's something private you don't want to share, don't share. Don't be all vague and weird about it. If you just don't want to share, say that, I wouldn't mind the honesty.

lol this conversation exactly.... to listen to these guys talk you either have to believe something shady is going on or they are the unhealthiest bunch of very healthy young adults you're ever going to meet.

Not saying that’s the advantage, my point was people are trying to find EVERY advantage possible, so if all you need is a TUE to get something like aderall, then why wouldn’t they do it?
