Hello everyone, I recently picked up a 24 YZ450f. I was looking up spring rates for the rear shock and I was getting some crazy high numbers that I didnt expect. Im a bigger guy at around 235 and losing weight to get to 220 again. I was using the race tech spring calculator and its wanting me to use anywhere between a 6.4 rear spring and a 6.6 rear spring. Last time I used a 6.6 Spring I was 285 without gear on my old Zook lol, I also have a Kawi and they ask for around 6.0.
I know that different bikes different suspensions, but I wanted to reach out before I bought anything and get some opinions. Absolutely love the bike but I can definitely feel how soft the rear is when riding. Makes me hesitant to take it to any MX track at the moment.
I'm 235 (naked) and use 6.6. The stock spring was brutal - i was so low in the stroke that it would knock the bars out of my hands on acceleration chop coming out of corners. The 6.6 is border line for perfect pre load etc (could be higher) but the shock is way more plush now. (was revalved also) Even at 220 i think you'll be close.
The new Yamaha has a very soft initial leverage ratio in my opinion so don’t be scared for a stiff spring. it feels soft while on the bike, especially with the stock valving.
REP had me on a 6.8 but they run VERY stiff springs. Enzo has me on a 6.3nm right now with 5.2nm fork springs and I’m 232lbs without gear.
Static on the shock isn’t great on 6.3nm but I’m able to get good rider sag numbers (103-105) and the bike feels balanced in the 2 hours I’ve ridden it.
I could definitely see going up a rate in the rear but haven’t ridden it off road yet so don’t know for sure
Hope this helps.

Sag 104-105
Fork Height: +2-3mm
Fork clickers: 12/12
Shock clickers: 12-12, HiSp 1.50-1.75 out
* Revalve from your trusted tuner will help, stock valving is real stiff, and front end dives thru the stroke.
* SDG makes a great new seat, tell them what height you prefer: +.25", +.37, +.50, +.75, +1.00.
* i recently added the Ride Eng 23.5 triple clamp + front brake kit.....both work really well! makes the '23 feel planted like the '22, will no loss of turning ability.
* also, I protect / wrap the temp sensor valve with black duck tape to keep the water out.
Wrap the temp sensor and kill/map switch when washing.
Going to text Luxon 24mm tomorrow. Stand by for updates!
I get some headshake sometimes when letting the throttle off coming in fast into breaking bumps and also think the fork feel pretty harsch on the breakingbumps.
Usually got 2-3 inches of travel left on the fork. Stock springs and 370ml of oil.
Tried 100-108 sag (35-40)
Weighs 197 pounds and freaking fast.
I have tried 5.2 fork springs and 6.0 rear earlier and different spring perches but thought the fork were harsch so went back to stock.
What should I do?
However, I do have a 2023 YZ450F and recently pulled my suspension to get revalved and whatnot. Got it back and all back on bike and it wouldn’t start. Turns out in the mix of everything the plug-in under the tank has 2 wires and one of them snapped which isn’t allowing the bike to start.
We looked into replacing that part but all signs lead back to having to buy an entire wire harness assembly to replace just that one wire/plug-in which isn’t a cheap fix. Has anyone ever had this issue before and if so have you resolved it without purchasing wire harness assembly.
Or does anyone know what kind of connector this is and how to remove wires from it to replace it with? I’ll post pictures. Not sure if I’m using the right terms for this but appreciate any help possible!
yah that seems like a lot Im at 210 with gear and run a 5.9 and have 105-110sag...most of the big shops enzo, FC, JBI etc are happy to talk on the phone and recommend a spring weight even if you dont go through them
get it revalved for your speed. springs help start/keep you in the right part of the stroke so that youre using the appropriate valving. Besides weight, speed is also a factor. If you're A class level you could probably benefit from a revalve. Im C class and felt the benefits of getting mine revalved.
the wiring diagram looks like you do need to replace the entire thing, but thats just a 5 prong connector. it wont be oem yamaha but you should be able to buy something like this, cut the red wire out and put both the red and black wire back into the appropriate holes.

you could also try to pry that one apart and see if you can re insert the torn wire.
I have used shorter rear shock like 1-1.5mm that will keep rear end lower when coming into corners. I also went for more offset when running softer sand 23-24mm when stock is 22mm. One of these will help but also make car turn less if track is really tight and slow.
I had 2 wires/connectors coming loose from ECU connection. Havent found anyone could fix or replacement parts for connector. Option was just buy full wiring harnes that was +400€ if i remember right. Im still running it just cant switch maps because connector is broken.
You should be able to get a seal pick or a tiny screw driver and unclip the inside of the female bit of the prong from the plastic housing and then reattach it
That's the same connector Honda uses for MAF connections on cars, so any auto parts store should be able to order it.

Or you can just order the connector with new female pins:

In your photo it's missing the grey insert, were you trying to take it apart already?
What is your fork height?
Yes I was. We didn't have the right size pick to get down to release it. But thank you guys!
Pit Row
I hear people using epoxy or light RTV to seal their kill switches. Anyone got any pictures of that or have there been any in the thread?
I just took mine off the bar and put silicone in every crack I could see.
Someone got a good shim stack setup?
I sent my suspension to a suspension tec and the fork was very harsh on breaking bumps and the bike nervous and give me headshake into corners.
The last month I learned how to revalve it myself.
Have revalved it 6 times myself now and trying to figure out why its so harsh. I have tried going stiffer on basevalve comp and midvalve wich made it even harsher. Went softer and it feelt little less harsh but the bike got nervous. Tried more float and different springs and spring perches. .
What did you not like about the forks in stock form?
Man, now i remember why i loved my 23 so much. Finally got a few motos in on the 24.. set sag and loaded keefers race map. I really don't have a need to change anything else.. even at 215, the stock suspension seems to take care of me. I got a tiny bit of push happening in corners but i think clickers may fix that. Only thing ive done is pegs, handguards, vert mx graphics, acerbis skid plate, cycra stadium plate with custom vent from offcambr mx, wc clutch perch and a 110 rear tire. Within 3 laps i had hit everything and gelled immediately. That didn't happen with the SR i tried. My only "compliant" if you will is the seat padding. Ive come to really like the shape, but on hard seat bounces my ass bones make contact with metal/hard plastic on the right edge of the seat somewhere. Is there a better padded seat without changing the shape? Daughters loving her 65 too!

I just put my Factory Connection suspension on Friday and was able to get two days of practice. Very nice setup. They have always done my suspension in the past and i love it. Good stuff.
man that bike looks killer, can you send a link to the skid plate, I have an acerbis but couldnt find the one that extended all the way to the linkage like you have. I came from a KTM and am about 210 and agree the stock suspension is amazing but i had it re valved by factory connection and its even better, well worth the money.
Thanks! When i have graphics done i try to keep a clean look without crazy colors or patterns. I like this one with the blue side panels and white numbers. Never tried it before.
I got the skid plate off rocky mountain.

I know it’s weird since the 23 has only been available for a year and a half.. but will the 25 follow Yamaha’s slight update pattern?
Acerbis offers skid plate that covers linkage....https://www.acerbisusa.com/p94775-skid-plates
Using that link above got me the skid plate with the linkage guard.
Kinda hope 25s stay the same.
Question regarding foot pegs - I’m 6’2” and I’ve never had foot pegs that were different to stock in any way (lowered or moved towards the rear). I’m getting curious about trying this on the YZF chassis. My two options are;
A. Works connection lowered foot peg mounts (-4mm) with a stock peg (has to be a set of pegs from a previous generation per their website)
B. Raptor -5mm down and -5mm back foot pegs
Who has tried one or both, what was your experience? Im just trying to open up the rider triangle a bit for more comfort.
