Just play around with it until you find the setting the kid can actually keep it engaged without going brp, brp, brp non stop. All that does is engage, disengage, engage, etc non stop and wears that clutch out. After you smoke the first stick clutch I suggest swapping it out for the IRP Triple Grip as the stock one is not great. Change the 300cc of oil after every ride day with the stock clutch. Manual tells you stock starting point. 0 clicks out bike starts to go low rpm and 17 it will rev high before clutch starts to hook up. If plates are too worn it will keep slipping. Worn plates can be used long time if you add 0.5mm-0.7mm extra plate. We did do extra plate from old gold plates by sanding gold surface away. KTM/Gasgas also sells harder clutch springs for 2023 model that are good upgrade. Other option is take 3 clutch balls out that will make stock springs harder.
These clutch need different throttle control than normal cluthes, more throttle better clutch will work. Best is take kid to open field and learn to open throttle hard, if not they will stay on slipping edge most of time at track and wear out clutch. Oil is cheap so keep chancing it often.

I started my kiddos on 4 clicks and worked up to 10 or 11.
The manual gives the stall speed spec and process to do it correctly. You will need a digital tach. I use a cheap hourmeter I found on Amazon that has a tach feature. As the clicks go up, the more important it is to not blip the throttle and stay into it because it generates a lot of heat. I found changing oil often with the recommended Motorex Dexron III or other quality Dexron III Type H spec fluid helps as well as a larger rear sprocket in sand / tough soil to keep from overheating.

Also, be vigilant with transmission fluid changing, every 2-3 hours is what I was told and following that advice, we've had zero clutch issues with 2 Austrian 50's now. And no need for Motorex, just grab a handle of this stuff from your local auto parts store.
We did the same for the season we were on a 50. Great suggestion!
Then we switched to the KTM SX-e5 and never dealt with it again. On a 65 now.
Maybe I got lucky but I'm surprised at all the supposed issues the AUS 50's reportedly have. Mine's on it's 2nd rider, approaching 70 hrs. Only have had to do some jetting, clutch adjustments, chain tension, normal stuff. A top end preventatively at 50hrs... Really no more maintenance than any other bike?
They’re honestly one of the tougher bikes to “dial in” and learn IMO. A lot of people just don’t service and look after these little bikes properly.
We had no issues either. But we stayed on top of the ridiculous amount of maintenance they require to keep them performing as built.
Run whatever setting is best for your rider. Run Maxima 75wt oil with 2oz of Two2cool (ebay) mixed in each quart. Change oil after each day if riding. Run engine ice in radiators too!
Best option, replace the OEM clutch with an IRP clutch. This will save you headaches from replacing clutches and stators. In my experience, the OEM clutch overheats the motor and melts the stator. Once the stator starts to go, then the coil takes a hit too. The IRP clutch resolves all of those issues.
Best way to adjust the ktm 50 clutch is to sell it and buy a cobra 50
I should have been more specific. I am looking to get more out of the bottom and wasn’t sure if it would be with the clutch adjustments or if I should look at different sprocket combo.
Adjusting the clutch changes the engagement RPM- raising the engagement RPM will make it more aggressive off idle. So yes adjusting the clutch will technically give you more bottom end (the engine will start in at a higher rpm)..
You could add 2 teeth to rear sprocket it will help bottom and straight speed is hardly problem with these.
Do you meen adding a fiber clutch plate? The steel plates in my sons tc50 2018 is about 2mm thick.
How does adding a clutch plate affect the clicker setting on the clutch? I guess there will be less slip.
Dump your coolant and use a waterless coolant. Everyone in Oz during the summer did this especially in sand on their 50’s. We ran it all year
You need to sand down old Gold plate to bare metal so its 0.8-0.9mm max to get it fit. You also could buy ready 0.5mm extra plate but its expensive plate:

If you watch this photo you get idea. Also good tip is take 3-balls out from clutch this will make springs act stronger as mass goes down. Some take 6-balls out but I havent gone that far.
