What is he looking for/seeing if anyone is in violation each time he walks in front of the riders before the gate drops?

Things like have they prepped in front of the gate, are they lined up straight, are they interfering with the rider next to them, etc.

he pulls me for sound often, and last year the only race I was leading (lcq detroit) he called the red flag at half way for a gate malfunction. 
 

I always hear that I get this special ama support, but honestly my dad makes it harder on me cause I  am his kid. 
 

my mom also works staging, for ama. It’s nice to have family at the races, but I don’t get much support. I only really speak to them, on Fridays.

What is Starling's dad checking before the gate drops? Well I've been on the floor as a flagger, and I can unequivocably state that he is checking the Monster Girls.  lololol

I kid obviously but he seems to be tasked with the herding of cats that is putting the Monster Girls in the right location to walk across the starting gate with the moto board. I have seen more than one head shake.
