How can a former eastern bloc poor country such is Bulgaria have a track, permanent facilities and infrastructure that put any track in England or USA to shame?
It's hard to argue against the massive banner at top of circuit that proclaims "The World's best Motocross track"
They have a fantastic track, built in wateringsystem, massive elevation changes, permenant facilities including grandstands, VIP suites, Media Centre, announcing tower and this weekend cut the ribbon on a fully equipped medical centre opened by the Bulgarian Prime Minister.
The only Bulgarian former GP rider I can remember is Dimitar Rangelov in 80's 250cc GP's.
Sounds like the Bulgarian government put a lot more into Motocross than our governments or organising bodies such as AMA or ACU have invested.

You mean investing money into something that can give exposure and money back to the local community and the country as a whole? Yeah, I´d hate it if my government tried to build one of the best mx tracks in the world too. I´d rather wish they gave the money to the Catholic church or Boy scouts. Money for rubber and funny hats.

Government shouldn't be involved in professional sport.

it's still relative to the income of the residents.

Not bashing on the track because it's simply beautiful.

I was thinking the same thing while I watched the race. What a great facility. I think it was actually voted the "worlds Best MX track" by the FIM. It seems very deserving too. I love the lay out there and all the lines that form for passing. There was 10 different ruts in every corner to choose from. It also looks like a very fun and safe track for all levels of riders too. One thing that isn't great about it is it doesn't hold water well. Last year it rained there and it was a mess. If I remember right they couldn't even run the 2nd motos cause nobody could get up the hills.

I stayed a few days in Sophia, and the women were about as beautiful as that track. That being said, they sure do have a lot of wild dogs (literally). I do think the extra exposure the GP brings should only help Bulgaria.

Me and my dad drove through Bulgaria plenty of times in the late '60;s - it was all

communist back then and very inhospitable - I don't recall being at all impressed

with the state....

Cold lentil soup with fake Coke at grungy road-side restaurants with slimy

tablecloths and disappointed peasants....

Anyway, sure it's a lot better now, track looks cool....Hope they set Bulmer free....

( Lalalalallalalllalala - skipping off into the sunset..........)
