“He was hauling”

I always ave to laugh at statements like this. Because, if he was going three seconds per lap slower, your naked eye couldn’t tell, but race pace that would put him off-pace of his competition. So how would you know he’s “hauling” without a stop watch??

all these guys look silly fast to the naked eye. Only the stopwatch separates them.

News flash professional rider on groomed track still fast on a stock bike!

So Mathes said he's 70% certain Eli is in for the entire summer and wants to come back for '25 SX. Chase, Eli, and Jett will make for a hell of a summer

I figured he would do the nationals. Everyone wants to be the one to beat Jett for the first time. He planned to do them last year and got injured. Now he can finish his MX career on his terms. He is finding his groove again finally. Hitting his stride just in time for the nationals. It would be silly to stop racing right now. I think this will be his last MX season. Then SX for one maybe two more years.

I was certain he wasn't coming back for sx and, again, was sure he wouldn't race this summer. I'll be happy to be wrong again. The fact the he seems to want to race this summer and his demeanor on the podium makes me think hes really starting to feel it. Even getting beat, he's thinking I'm can hang with this kid.

With Eli, he will keep it secret as long as he possibly can if he is riding all the Nationals. He could always do the first one or two and see how it goes.

To ALL the people who say "Tomac barely beat Sexton in '22 MX"

Tomac: 14 moto wins. 8 of them were a win streak. Nearly double the moto wins.
Sexton: 8 moto wins. Never won more than 3 in a row.

He won by 7 points over 24 motos, with a 1 point lead going into the last round, I don't think "barely" is a stretch at all.

He started in a points hole because of his knee injury ? Maybe I’m misremembering

Yeah, he lost like over a dozen points at the first round alone because he hadn't really done any outdoor testing because he was still recovering from the knee injury that happened at Atlanta SX. Had he been prepared, he probably finishes significantly better at Fox rd 1 and likely doesn't have a 4th in that first Hangtown moto... that's probably like ~10 additional points and, while still pretty close, it's not nearly as much of a nail-biter of a season.

That would be awesome if he came back. Outdoors really is where prime Tomac can unleash his speed, and I think he's always preferred it to SX. Even if he can't win the title against Jett (obviously a huge undertaking), it would make sense for him to want to end his outdoor career on his own terms.

Agree with this 100%. Beating Jett in SX this season was a tall order coming off not riding and recovering from a severe injury. I think Tomac is a better outdoors rider even though he seems like he does not agree.

If he really wants to see if he has something for Jett it has to be this summer...and not part-timing it.

By prime Tomac do you mean the best version of the rider he is currently?  Because actual prime Tomac as in the fastest version of him is gone. He can still be amazing and give us great racing though. Jett's outdoor starts are really going to be a problem for Eli.

Jett vs 2015 Tomac would be something to see. Although, I am pretty sure 2015 Tomac would have smoked Jett.

The only problem is Jett is better at mx too. Quite a bit better

Hopefully we aren't putting the cart before the horse and Eli actually races outdoors. Eli vs Jett at Southwick? LFG

He’s probably doing outdoors to set him up to make a run at the 25 sx season. He had no chance at it if he sits out all summer while everyone else gets better.

Don't forget millville where he's wide open riding the bike like  125, especially in the rollers.
