I heard Lakewood national MIGHT be going under lights this year. :roll:

How cool would that be us for colorado motocrossers. That means i can take my son without the risk of burning up.

That would be cool. Literally. But those big jumps and ruts would be a real challenge to light properly. I remember when they said Nacar tracks couldn't be lit well enough to race at night, and now they do it all the time so...

But ruts are a problem.

I was riding Lakewood this past summer when they were testing the idea. I saw them bringing out some portable lights and such to various areas of the track and the people that run the track told me they were tossing the idea around. I don't know what the outcome was, but I would be stoked if they put up permanent lighting, it would make some of those July rides more fun.

Basically I'm not confirming the rumor, but its definetly being discussed within Claubaugh and ranks. I heard it first hand. Since I havn't been to lakewood to ride and havn't spoken to david Claubaugh personally I can't confirm.

I don't think that is dumbing at all. Try lugging around babies in 95° heat. It gets real old quick. If it at night it affords me the luxury of not having to swelter in the heat.

I have no problem with nighttime nationals.
Less dust, less hot, easier travel times
Would be a huge improvement

Ever ridden under lights? Outdoors it reduces the amount of holes and bumps you can see, oddly enough. Glare off the back of the goggle lenses is another factor. Seems like a lot more dangerous, course I don't know what kind of lighting system they are talking here.
It might be bright enough to tan your butt while you ride, I don't know.

it'd have to be one hell of a lighting system for it to work, and the infield would have to be lit well too, could you imagine the mischief going on if the spectator area was dark? Would be cool though, really different

There really won't be any problems with it. Simply make the track basically rectangular, and fit inside of the dimensions of, say, a stadium........

I used to ride at mosier valley on thursday nights and village creek on tuesday nights. There isn't anything really that different about it as long as the lights are good.

I've got 4.

This is the sort of thing that leads to tracks being more "stadium" style, in my opinion. That's not a good thing. That's what Supercross is for.

I think the Nationals should be going the other way, back to more natural terrain, not towards more of a man-made, stadium-style layout for the comfort of spectators or the ease of filming.

I think the sport misses out when things like this disappear......

The best racing I ever did was sat nights under the lights at motorcycle raceways at 59th and douglas in OKC. stayed cool the track was better just more fun.

Think about it this way. People want the outdoors to grow and prosper, but it seems when people see changes they just automatically just slam them. I'm not saying this good or bad for everybody, but it allows the kids to see their heros. Watching this sport is not about me or you. The success lays in the future and our children. I don't see everybodies logic. Its not like every track going under the lights, but at least someone is forward thinking and wanting change. One thing you can't deny about the CO national is the forward thinking. From the pits, to the track to the jumbotron, it is in the upper tiers of the national tracks. David Claubaugh alone pulled in Toyota the first year and had demos set up that allowed you to drive Tundra's. I'm not saying everything is perfect but change is good, even if it sometimes for the bad.

Well im no where near there, but! I dont think its that big of deal. Motocross is motocross. Supercross would be supercross even if it was during the day and outside.

Anything that David does, he will do it right. It will be completely lit up. Ever been to Bandimere for the mile high nationals on Friday night? I think it would be very similar. I also assume they would test it out first. They have already done testing. I still don't know how the testing came out.

This is Freestone, but it is their other track, NOT the National Track
But it gives you an idea of the level of lighting he can do, it's like daytime on the track

and guess what the owner of Freestone does for a living?
