How often yall change your oil?

If I race on a weekend (this would be practice plus 4-6 motos ) I am definitely changing the oil on Monday. 
 I’ll do the main filter every 2-3 changes. 

Oil is the least of what I waste money on..

When I get a hankerin' usually

2022 Husky 350 manual says every 10 hours. I do that using motorex along with a new filter.  Very clean looking when drained and if good enough for the manual specs, good enough for me.

I buy used bikes. If a guy uses rotela I walk.  If he says he goes ten hours on it j walk. If a guy is “wasting” oil and changed synthetic frequently. I buy. It’s a tiny amount of oil. Guys. It’s contaminated by the clutch.  Change the shit.  You want your valve train lubricated by  clutch fibers ? Have at it.   I love the fact on the older Hondas have separated tranny and engine oil.  I still change my tranny oil every ride. Engine oil every other ride.   Oil is cheap. Hospital bills are not. Change you oil people.  You’re riding a ten thousand dollar bike. With 6 $ of oil in it. Now you want to save money. ?Lmao 

My 2016 450FC has 56 hrs on it and i have changed the oil twice since i got it 5 years ago with 40 hours on it. 

Its not about changing the oil, it about seeing whats in it, we would regularly drop the oil on our Supermoto bikes, after day 1 of a 2 day meeting, and put it back in. We got good oil for free,and didnt waste it, and we used to send samples back to them to test as well. 

After every off-road race.

After every Moto race.

Usually every 3 hours of practice/trail riding. 

Oil and filters are sooooo cheap. Some of the oil I drain after an enduro looks brutal. Nobody can convince me that it still lubricates the same. 

To the guys changing there oil after every ride which in moto id imagine is an hour or so. There was an interview earlier this year with one of the mechanics and they were saying they run the same oil in the motors for both outdoor motos if that tells you anything. 

6-10 hours is plenty enough in a modern four stroke unless you are insanely hard on the bike for some reason, or if you got the bike really hot.

Also on the two strokes the SX models call for 15 hours and the XC bikes are actually 40 hours on the transmission fluid. 

I ran Rotella in my 2011 CRF450- rode that bike for 200+ hours never opened the engine. Sold it to a circle track racer in 2015 who then raced it for several more years. Ran into that person last year and they just decided to rebuild the engine for the first time..100s and 100s of hours on the stock engine..

Your walking away from some good bikes due to your lack of knowledge..

When it needs it.

A buddy of mine worked in a bus depot in London, those big double deckers run all day every day and i think at that time they were changing the oil every 4-5000 miles, they were approached by an oil company to 'donate' a bus for testing oil, and they took weekly samples, changed filters at the 5000 mile mark to open them up. 

They used a bit anyway, as big motors do, so it was topped up to level as needed, but it got to 90,000 miles before they saw enough contamination to deem it needing changed. 

F1 teams use spectroscopy and oil analysis at the track do determine engine health, 24hour bike races change oil at half distance cos they can, and its a safety thing, but for nobbers like us, the most important thing is that it has some. 

And my daily drive Mercedes junker used to run on the stuff i took out of my bikes, no matter what it was, just strained and decanted.

I appreciate your input. It is going in my son's TC 85 and he's typically not hard on clutches anyway. At least I've never had to change clutch plates on any of his bikes since he started in 2020, or front brakes for that matter, with 140-150hrs per year. I was planning to start with new plates this time since his currently is a hair shy of 100hrs now. 

I think this depends more on the rider / terrain being ridden , a deep sand track or mud race for example your bikes hotter the clutch is getting a lot more use it’s not going to be as good for a long time , if your riding round a flat field as a beginner  your oil will stay better for longer ? I generally do it every 3 rides  but I think there’s a lot of variables 👍

Every 5-7 hours on my FC 350, new filter every other oil change, Maxima Pro Plus 10-50. I'm the original owner, at 71 hours now  and still on the original clutch with no issues! 

On my 450...every 7 hours on the oil, and 14 hours for the oil filter (every other oil change)..as recommended by the owners manual.

When/how often does your owners manual say to change your oil,filter? 

If Langham doesn’t chime in quickly…it better be because he’s at work, at the canyon or at a strip club…errrr…I mean…Union Safety Meeting.

10 hours! Damn I been doing it all wrong. Haha. Usually 3-5 hours for me. Filter every other time.

Y’all change your oil?

Oil changed every 1/2 hour too right???

Some of you must race much harder than you practice. Or at least you think you do. 

At exactly the right time, every time. I know because that’s the time I chose, so it must be the right time. 
 

I use rotella also. Diesel engines run high compression, it’s MA2 certified and the additives are good for small engines. That’s good enough for me. I can find it at Walmart or the hardware store, too. Expensive oils lose their appeal when they end up costing $5 an hour to run.
