I don't see what's wrong with having sections were guys can make up time?

Webb is slower through the whoops, but when they break down later in the race he can jump through them faster than most. When the track is slippery, Kenny's superior throttle control helps him go faster than most.

When there are Stewable sections, Jett pulls it out first and makes up time, but then a guy like Kenny picks it up and it evens back out (LA-SMX quad).

Fast lines become slow lines, and slow line become faster, don't penalize the faster guys that react to a changing track or are better at certain sections.

Harder obstacles would allow elite guys to get to the front when they get a bad start.  Currently bad starts dont allow guys to get to the front as easily cause the mid level guy is doing the same thing the elite guy is and playing follow the leader.

I didn’t read all the responses and I’ll bet it already been said. But WTF can’t we just have different track designs and obstacles every round? Why is every triple ??ft and we need 9 fucking whoops? Stupid

So you guys who want to see the riders ride the most difficult tracks, and have obstacles that separate the  elite guys from the rest of the top 22.

You would rather have it be 1 or maybe 2 guys that would be winning every week. And most likely be a runaway for the winner.  ?

Rather than tighter racing with guys passing each other back and forth and being 1 second apart at the finish?

To the average fan, from up in the stands they have no idea what is hard to do or easy.    You put guys on a track that make  15 or more look like they have a hard time making it around the track, making mistakes and not able  to jump stuff. So they look like the C class at a local race. Super entertaining right?

I just think that racing is better when You have guys race each other instead of the track.   How about we get rid of the 22 rider Mains  and heats, all head to head racing. Make the tracks super difficult so  any mistake will result in injury ,at least 1 guy gets  hurt at each round. And just run a single guy on the track at a time. And the guy who has  the fastest average lap time over the entire night is the winner.  No more boring head to head close racing. Lets really make stuff to separate the guys.

Saying the people who want closer ,safer racing that come from tracks that are a little easier want a flat oval, is just as crazy as what I just suggested.  A track that is a challenge , but not to the point that it gives a single guy a giant advantage like the 90's and 2000's is what I am talking about when I say easier.

If they can make racing closer and less predictable , while keeping riders healthy, what's wrong with that?   More technical tracks would give the riders I am fans of an advantage, But then they end up not having to try as hard, while the other guys kill themselves.  On the tracks that other riders are able to challenge them, they have to try harder to separate themselves.

Is the racing tighter?  sure, but its cause the faster guy has trouble getting around the slower guy cause they are both doing the EXACT same line!!  the racing hasnt really been that exciting this year, its been talked about a bunch!!  Perfect example was when Jett couldnt get around Anderson, it was clear Jett was faster, but the track, and there not being an obstacle one could be faster through/over left Jett stuck behind Anderson.  Years past when you had more whoops, or a dragon back the faster rider could take a different line over these and make a pass.  Ive seen TONS of passes in whoops and TONS of passes on dragons backs.

Great Tomac interview. Ironic he talks about track features for the elite riders...I agree he is 100% right but that scenario hurt him in Daytona. Eli tells it like it is.

The tracks really do suck this year. How about more whoops and two sets again sometimes! Simple tracks where the top ten are all within a second of each other suck. Hate seeing fast guys stuck behind slower riders just because the track is too easy.

Hope they listen to him. Especially by adding an extra whoop or 2 at-least. They are so slow to react and make little changes. 9 is too easy for the jump line.

Would be cool to have a rider like Josh Hill try some new creative jumps and features we could potentially bring into Supercross. I bet he would have some interesting ideas.

They brought up a good idea about having at least 10 whoops to break up the rhythm of tripling or doubling

9 has been lame, when was the last time we saw anyone get squirrely in the whoops?  also maybe im crazy but I feel like I remember them being different sizes?  all 9 look identical?

Well then why not make a flat track and say have at it, that way the guy in section 2 row A can sign up and play.

Sections only a few can do is what separates the great from the good, whoops too big, slow down. Dragon back to hard, slow down , triple too big, double-single.

Stewable sections, and creative options is what SX is all about, people pay to see the best of the best do what nobody else can do at speeds nobody else can run. Not just a presession of riders on watered down tracks.

Its a balance.

Last week people complained about boring races, Jett checking out. What do you think would happen if the tracks got more difficult? Even more separator.

Suddenly Eli starting 8 is not a problem, he will be on the podium any way but still lose so much time that he can't reach Jett and Chase (or maybe Webb). He will blow by 4-7, and then nothing. He will stop pushing when he notice Jett is 10sec ahead and it can't be gained.

You can sit there and go wow they went 0.5sec faster through the whoops, or did a quad. After 3 laps it's the new normal and you get bored.

Boring races happens when the riders have to race the track, not each other. Simpler tracks leads to better racing. Simple tracks let's the other riders have a chance to fight Elite-Elite.

There has only been one rider through out history that could leverage a difficult or special obstacle, and that's Stewart. He had a win or die mentality, and it only took him so far I'm terms of championchips (compared to others) because of injuries and crashes.

None of the racers today have that mentality, they are to smart. You can win a championship in only one race, but you can lose it in 16. That's the new standard.

kxking wrote:

Next we'll stop keeping score and everyone gets a trophy.

1. Again, the result wouldn't be different.

2. Racing will be much more speed out and boring

3. Why don't we build a track with 3 whoop sections with 15 each, and 3 quads, 3 dragon backs? Because it's a balance.

I'll take good racing any day over watching a guy doing a quad.

Tomac lost time in whoops last race because he didn't handle it as Jett did. He also lost time in the rythm section because he thought it was more consistent his way. He said it himself. He didn't do the rythm at Daytona where he lost time to Jett.

So you already have guys doing things that other elite guys don't do, and it gets boring because as above, he races the track and not Jett. Not that hard to see what wil happen with even more difficult tracks.

But it doesn't matter. If you get a eight place start, your are already 5-8sec off the Elite-Elite who got a good start. It's over before lap 3.

The only racing we have left, is watch Jett battle Anderson, Tomac Roczen, Chase Barcia to try to get as much point as possible.

So you prefer solo riding over battles? Again, everyone compliant about how little racing there is just 2-3 weeks ago. And you want to have less racing?

Exactly. Couldn't be less boring to watch. It's like when Jett and Prado get a holeshot and win by 15sec. The only thing you can watch is the top guys with bad starts trying to salvage points.

If Jett get a 15 place start with a track they pull another 1sec per lap. He is guaranteed a podium and he will be like Prado last season. Ultra boring.

I’m not a math wizard by any means, but let’s say an elite guy that can run the same or slightly better lap times than the guy out front, let’s say .4 seconds faster? He got stuck with a bad start, but there’s obstacles he can do better than the guys that got a better start.  Over to course of 20 minutes he’s gonna work his way to the front.  Let’s say at the half way point he’s 4 seconds behind the leader and stuck in 5th, he is faster in the whoops or he’s better over a dragons back, he’s eventually gonna battle his way to the front, and maybe start challenging for the lead.  That’s exciting racing.  Now let’s say that guy that’s able to turn equal or faster times is stuck behind someone in 8th place and there’s no place to separate him from the 8th place guy(cause they are all doing the same line), then you have an elite rider who’s stuck mid pack.  That’s boring to watch.

You are exactly on point with what I'm saying how they would move through the field, but you have another outcome.

You are missing that one, or often two, of the elite guys will pretty much always get a start and be in lead after 3-4 laps.

Race for the win is over. Most likely second place also since they blow by the other ones. The guy falling behind have no way of making up 6-10sec lost that early.

But, he will in that scenario always be on the podium after 20min. Prado outdoors last year. Be top 3, that's it. Boring as fuck.

So less swing of points, more certain podium results. The only thing interesting in last year's outdoor, was will Jett go 22-0. And you want to make the gap bigger?

I can't see that adding anything to the racing excitement unfortunately.

For Eli, of course he want it that way. Why wouldn't he? A bad start will result In a podium and not a 5-8th result.

(Replace podium with 1-4 or whatever number of Elite-Elite guys).

So you want to make it easier for the slower guys to win.

I'd rather see the slower guys improve there skills and get faster, but they cant do that if everyone is going the same speed on an easy track.

Challenging tracks give these guys an obstacle to go back to the compound and practice, till they are better than everyone else at it, and then can use it in the race.

Examples: CW2 is not the fastest in the whoops, but no one can turn down faster than him in a super rutted corner. He finds areas where he is faster and makes up time.

Not much Jett can't do on a dry track, but through in some rain and he don't look so good....

Nobody gets more consistent starts than Vince, so he gets to run up front, where he's learned to ride a VERY wide bike. That's his advantage (plus he's a pretty fast guy).

Kenny rides the first 5 laps like there's liquid white powder in that RB can, then he's usually fast enough to hang on to the finish with tricks like that wheel tap on the wall at Daytona (heat race).

Just my little ramble.

I wish someone would ask the team managers what they think of the somewhat safer tracks. I believe it was their request these changes were made.

Im guessing that not having to find fill in riders, hoping their top guys are back by the outdoors isn’t something they are missing.

A year ago it’s called death cross and now it’s boring. Geeezzz.

Last year none of those injuries were due to track design....

ET3 - landed wrong over a double (didn't even fall)

CW2 - fell in a corner

MS27 - practice track injury

JA21 -  veered off the track, fell and got a concussion

JB51 - lost traction out of a corner and went over the bars on a small double (SMX)

Did I miss anybody?

Yes, Barcias crash on the dragons back that took him out the rest of the season.

Like I said, maybe someone ask the managers.

Feld would have whoops through the bowl turn between two whoop lanes if they could.

You might give an elite guy a way to come through the pack easier. And always have the same top 4 or 5 guys. Even if one of them gets a really bad start. But unless they all start together, whoever gets the start will open up a giant gap with fewer guys able to battle with them on the first few laps. They will be able to just take the fastest lines and not worry about a guy passing them back if its not one of the 3 or 4 guys who can run that speed.

Really the only things I see changing would be getting into lappers sooner. The same guys are going to be winning.  You would just make it easier for those same guys to be upfront all the time. A track that is harder to make up time on requires you to ride faster the entire time, and not have areas You can relax. It pushes even the top guys to be better since they know that if they get a bad start they may not be able to get to the front. And that can help make the title not turn into a runaway.

And Its hard to argue that there have been less riders out injured. Is that because of the track changes?  Fewer injuries can extend a riders career and for the parents that bring little Johnny to a race , not seeing a guy get carted off  every gate drop might just make the difference between Little Johnny getting a bike or the sport not getting a new rider.  My mother did not want me to race and I had to wait until I was 18 to be able to sign myself in. She was worried I would break my leg badly. And to be fair, she was kind of right about that. After all I did destroy my foot, and knees. But had she not seen Evil have so many crashes and bust every bone in his body, I might have just been able to get started racing sooner. And Who knows how many kids have a similar story.

Last AX i raced in Asheville NC back in 2001, we had 11 whoops AND A TRIPLE in the middle. The triple was there for the jump contest at halftime. Of course Todd Bennick won it every time. lol. If they can put 11 whoops in a small AX arena , safely, then obviously it should never be a problem on a pro level event anywhere.

The whoops used to make broadcasters come up with new words, I haven’t heard huck a buck in a LONG time

I’ve just never understood how there’s a lack of dirt. What the hell is the difference between 100 dump truckloads and 130? It’s DIRT, how could it cost that much more. Clearly I don’t know how it all works, but it just boggles my mind that we all of a sudden have a lack of dirt

Whatever the difference is monetarily, I'm sure it's not affecting their bottom line. I had to remortgage my house for 6 club seat tickets to Gillette Stadium lol
