The 'ring thing' was last year. How'd it work out? They won the title, so perhaps it worked out okay at that time.
People who really want to be offended can certainly find opportunities, I suppose.

All I know is that if my little girl were into basketball....I wouldn't be pushing her to choose many folks involved with the LSU program as role models to follow.

Where does it say in the constitution that we as a people have to sing/be present when it's sang (although I believe everyone who lives and prospers here should)? National pride is one thing, but to shit on people who use that time to kneel or not be present to protest peacfully is the very infringement of personal freedoms and speech some people claim is happening to them at present.
I mean J'6th was just a tour of the Capital so people could see our government at work, right?

Bro, they are basketball players.......do they think they are "enlightening" the rest of us with their antics?
I don't think they were trying to 'enlighten' anyone. The only antics appear to be coming from the folks who are up in arms about this but haven't uttered a peep about the fact that the UConn and USC teams that were also in their locker rooms going over their pre-game prep during the national anthem during their game as well.

I agree with you that we aren't required to be present for, stand for, sing the national anthem. If we were that would be an authoritarian policy.
However, since we do have a choice, then what we choose says something about us, right?
In this case my view is they were pouting about a newspaper article that put their coach in a bad light. She's been a bit controversial during her career though.

I don't know too much about too many of the people in the program, but I do know a bit about one of the 'newer' people there, Hailey Van Lith. She was a pretty damned hard worker in high school, definitely kept out of trouble and got stellar grades. Was exponentially better than her high school teammates but still didn't toss them under the bus if they didn't win the state title, etc. She was playing for Team USA very early on (14ish?) and still made time to do workouts with local kids. When she did her NIL deals, she did them so that the local communities got some benefit also. As an example, for her NIL deal with JCPenney she had them donate $150 for each child Family Scholar House in Louisville brought in for a shopping spree.
She graduated from Louisville in 3 years in Finance with a 3.9 GPA and is taking a 'real' Business Masters (not one of those Executive MBA courses that some do. That being said, I'm sure that she has her faults and with some digging it wouldn't be hard to find some reasons to dislike her. I just happened to start out knowing enough good things about her first that the scales were already tipped in her favor for me.
I guarantee that none of the people associated with any college program are perfect. But most are probably not as bad as they might be portrayed, either.

They weren't protesting anything. They were following their pregame ritual for the last 2+ years. Several teams have been absent during the national anthems during the tournament games this year. It isn't due to making statements.

Oh ok, my misunderstanding.
Although from a coaching perspective it was a mistake, given that Iowa was out there, and that emboldened the Iowa fans, and perhaps didn't sit too well with some LSU fans. It can make a difference for sure.
What's kinda ironic is that Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese etc. are the talk of the town right now but once they get to the WNBA nobody will give a shit anymore.

I can't.
I think Lungbutter is inline with your thinking, it's just worded a bit differently.

"Hey sis, you see Angel Reese? Yeah, she's a baller huh? Yeah, too bad she carries herself like an entitled, trash talking thug. Don't be like that."
Probably something along those lines is how I'd go about it.
Same way I tell my son to not be a dick on the track like Vince Friese.

Sounds like following the narrative to me.
Ice Cube is offering her $5mill to play in the BIG3 with the boys for a few games.
The highest salary in WNBA history is $242,000
That seems even less relevant than the WNBA, I'd literally never heard of the BIG3 until that started going viral.
I guess if they got $5mill to fork out like that it must have some following though.
5 mill for a few games ?? Nice work if you can get it …
Who cares
Full on "Don't as I do, Do as I say" syndrome.
Totally lost on some of the folks around here.
