Went and picked up an F150 Hybrid “PowerBoost” Crew Cab 4X4 today. Found one packed out exactly like I wanted/nicely equipped XLT-FX4 aka “a poor man’s Lariat”
The 1.9% for 6 years sealed the deal.
I’ll post some pic’s manana.
4th Gen Ram with G56 would be my recommendation.
Looks better than any Toyota ever made. Resale value? Have you seen 20yo truck prices?
Will pull anything.
Will last forever.
Will smoke, drag, and run over any Toyota.
22mpg and 16mpg towing around a 6x12 cargo full of tools.
"diesels cost blah blah blah more"
I run Rotella t6, $23/gallon x 3 + $10 Cat oil filter. Every 10k. You can run Delo for 13/gal.
Every 15k fuel filters, 2 Cat filters are like 20 each. That's the extent of extra costs.
Diesel is 3.77 near me and 87 is 3.39. Shrug.
Absolutely addictive torque. Hell, get a new F250, they look badass.
Hope you got the extended warranty if you plan to keep it....

$189.95 - $239.95
Bought this for chasing during Baja/BITD races and pulling a moderate toy hauler trailer of the “overland” flavor (wanna camp waaaay out there).
F150 XLT PowerBoost Hybrid
“High Pkg” (302A) All the power crap & seats along with tech & safety crap...stuff I usually turn OFF!
LED lighting/approach lights/spot lights (as I call it: Poor Man’s Lariat)
FX4 / 4X4
7.2kw “Pro-Power Onboard
Spray-in Bed-liner
Trailer Brake Controller
It does everything I need for moto-hauling AND trailering AND supplying power for race chase needs and pitting in Baja/SCORE/BITD.
It carries 31 gallons of fuel and easily gets well over 20 MPG on the road.
It tows/rates @ 11K and I’ve towed over 13K with an identical truck.
This configuration can seat 6 people and has quite a nice stash area under the rear seat.
Factory Sticker: $61,480
Paid: $57,900
Finance: 1.9% for 72 months
After ridiculous California taxes and reg fees, it was $63K OTD.
It’ll get a bit of Tremor/Raptor parts added to increase its “remote usability”. Like I was sayin'...It’s gonna get used for the 2024 SCORE, BITD, Baja Beach Bash, Rip to Cabo…etc.
It gets ridiculously good mlg and it hauls ass. Feels more like a Raptor R than a Raptor during a good launch!
For what in need when I go to Baja…? It’s perfect. The ability to carry 6 peeps is very convenient when needing to bring people to or from a remote area…bikes/SxSs/race trucks break at the most inconvenient times & locations…
I‘m sure some will say it’s too much $ or I should got a diesel…etc. Well, we’ve got 250/350/450/550 diesels and they’re awesome for the bigger trailering…but, they’re a bit too much for the more remote stuff we often find ourselves doing and I’m soooo stoked on the 7.2kW ProPower system.
When we get diesels of a comparable set up, they’re $85-100K trucks (Tremors/Lariat or Platinum) and they’re nice…but, they're too much truck in the sand washes or gnarlier off road routes and they’ve only got 2kW ProPower.
Btw, anyone need some 18" wheels and tires for their late model F150...? They'll go for a good price...and...they're certainly gonna go!!!
Having owned both, I would never choose a Ford over a Toyota product
Sharp truck. congratulations.
Same packages as my 20 but 21+ has some extra goodies mine doesn't. Obviously mine isnt a power boost either so no fun plugs! Killer truck!
Just turned over 270k last week in my 05 F150. Original 4.2 V6 and transmission, had the rear end rebuilt and regeared at 240k. Manual locks, manual windows, and can’t get out of its own way but it doesn’t have enough power to hurt itself or suck down tons of gas. Truck prices are way too rich for my budget nowadays, so I’ll keep truckin the old 05 until she says no more.
I’m the exact opposite, got rid of my Toyota Tacoma and went with a Raptor. I would never go back to a Toyota now.
Taco’s made A LOT of sense when they were the affordable little truck. Nowadays, sadly, I’ve seen people pay silly money for a TRD Pro-Whatever…it got downright stupid during the last few years…
That doesn’t work for me. Can’t put much in them. They burn a ridiculous amount of fuel & they don’t make sense for the stuff I need to do.
Them there’s the Tundra. Nice truck but it ain’t quite the off roader that other brands are and there’s only one Raptor. Period.
I’ve had excellent experiences with my Fords. My T150 has over 150,000 miles on it since Match of 2020. Tires, brakes, oil changes, air filters and the only item to wear out is an a/c blower motor due to a cabin air filter being insulated incorrectly…by a “fleet service company”…won’t be goin there anymore!
This truck is my 3rd Ford hybrid powertrain and I’ve had nothing but great luck with them.
Same. Had a ‘18 Taco trd pro that had all kinds of minor but irritating quality issues, not to mention the anemic engine and god awful transmission. Have a ‘21 Raptor 37 now and love it.
The Toyota legend is fading. The only great ones these days are out of the Tahara plant in Japan. The American made trucks are no better than Ford, Government Motors, or Stellantis.
Manny, after being in Baja the last two years as the crew chief for 301x I realized there’s a reason why you see so many Raptors down there, they just work for that kind of duty. Now that Ryan and I are working on moving into 4 wheel racing it just made sense to upgrade from the Tacoma this year. I hope you still have that old goldish brown Ford, that things a classic.
I talked up my fords last week.....
Trucks at the shop (under warranty). Have an IWE hub issue going on. Probably something stupid but that's what the warrantys for. My local dealership is awesome and my loaner is a 23 302a with the 2.7. Impressive little motor. They loaned me this truck so i get sucked into the newer body and interior style lol..
I also learned that in 2021 the trucks did not have the IWE system but went back to a standard version. The 22 and newer went back to IWE's and are currently experiencing a problem that happens within the ecu that they dont yet have a fix for. So, im hunting my same truck but in a 21 lariat. Lol
Psssst…tomorrow's the last day for the current 1.9% offer (2023 models)
Oh i know it. Ive been purposely staying off sarchiones websites lol.
Peep the logo on the shrouds. Used to have a ford oval on my graphics too but now they sell ram and Chevy too (and exotics at sarchione auto gallary).. lol sometimes they make it too easy for me but i must resist before i end up with a limited 450 or something dumb.. They help me out a little plus hook it up on vehicles.
Pit Row
Smart , the newer trk prices r crazy high. You could buy a 130 acer farm 30 yrs ago for 45k. In 95 everyone,s dream vehicle wasn’t a Vett. It was an ext cab Silverado a 92 in July 95. Was 10, 500 rust free Tx. Trk with a 1 ton 5 sp trans, Tx. Drop bumper. NASCAR had a partial yr of racing in 95. That’s a nascar replica bumper cover. Replica nascar exhaust, cow l hood, cd , earth Quake amp, haha, 5 star polished alum wheels , etc. sport trk scene was Hot and the stuff was cheap to buy. A few bolt ons the engine , I hv some of the parts on my g20 . Alum under drive pulley kit, a tbi spacers, hotter coil, etc. I gassed up tonight 17 mpg in the city.
Those were good trucks, I had an 05 with the 5.4. I would still be driving it if it didn't have the 5.4.
El Camino anyone ?

I think comparing a Raptor to a Tacoma is pretty silly. It's a totally different category of truck. '24 Raptors start at $78k and it's a performance truck. Nothing Toyota makes is competition for that, so I don't see how they can be compared. Most nicely equipped Tacomas are like mid $40k new. Yes, the Pro is over-priced for what you get but it's still like $55, which is a far cry from a Raptor price. Tacomas are not great at much. But what you get is a nice, reliable truck. They fit an active lifestyle, whether that be hauling bikes, camping stuff or having fun with the truck on trails etc. And you get good reliability and resale. That's the allure behind the truck. Because the power isn't great, the technology is always a bit behind, the mpg is never great, nor is the storage. A Raptor is obviously a much cooler truck but it's also not practical in other ways, costs more and is going to cost more to maintain. To me they serve 2 different purposes.
Exactly. My 2006 Tacoma has 284k miles and costs $150/year to insure. I paid $5000 for it. It’s not a Raptor competitor. But I think acting like a Raptor will last as long as a 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma is a bit silly
All of this feedback is amazing - thanks guys!
My paid-for 2006 Tundra SR5 Double Cab with low(ish) miles, set up for moto, sure is looking good suddenly ...
Smart boy! That’s a good generation of that truck.
ive had all of them over the years.
I used to be all about the Toyotas with the great resale value and reliability but I just can't sit in them anymore at my age/height/injuries. They are by far the most uncomfortable cars, especially if you are tall. Hard seats made for people 5 feet tall. My wife's 4runner's seats stop at my mid back and the headrests barely touch the bottom of my head, my head also hits the roof if I don't slouch or get a gangster lean on the seat where I'm looking out the back windows. While driving the windshield is really low and I can't even see stoplights without ducking to see under the roof, the hood scoop has horrendous glare when driving into the sun and the rear view mirror is so low I can't even see cars to the right of my at 4 way stops.
I drive a f150 currently which is very comfortable and has great tech but could still use a bit more headroom, would probably fine without the moonroof, which doesn't work anymore anyways.
The 21+ trucks no longer have vacuum actuated iwe's, they are all electronic, which in theory should take care of the iwe problem that ford has had for a decade, The problem they are having now is that truck automatically engages the 4wd for the first few seconds when you drive off and that is supposed to help warm the front diff faster, My understanding is when cold (below freezing) the grease they use thickens and that doesn't allow the hub to fully disengage and that is causing a grinding noise, immediately switching to 4wd will make it go away. My 22' did it the day I drove it home from the dealership and after cycling the 4wd a few times it hasn't done it since and that's been over a year ago and 26k miles ago. I think this new design will be much better in the long run
Is it just me or do my Hybrid’s have TWO cooling/heating systems…? Low Temp & High Temp…?
Yes. It's pretty common for someone who is going to put a boatload of miles on a truck, to buy a Taco. Most cases you are trouble free and get a good bit back upon reselling or trading. I bought my '14 knowing I was going to put 30k a year on it. Traded it in with almost 200k and I literally did tires, oil, brakes, a windshield (from a rock on interstate,) shocks and that's it. Looked like new when I traded it and got reasonable trade, considering. That's not the same buyer as a Raptor buyer. Colorado is likely closest competitor. And I think the ZR2 is a cooler truck than a Pro and probably performs better. But I wouldn't trust it to hold up or for resale. My last Colorado by 160k I had replaced the tranny ($3500), heater core ($800) and the head was going bad, causing a misfire.
Massive el camino fan here.... they've had updated concepts over the years, surprised it never came back.
