Kudo's to Davey and MX SPORTS.

Everybody relax. You could hold the SoCal national in a graveyard and they would still pull 30k+ rabid MX fans. Its the safest place on planet earth to experiment with some new ideas.

Davey is the "YES WE CAN" of motocross. Go fo it Mr Coombs!!!
HA. Good luck getting 30K at Pala.. All they will get there is cheap easy indian casino money and a crappy track that will NEVER compare to GH.

How will that grow mx?

I'm not going to assign blame to anyone but this still sucks. I loved watching the Glen Helen race. I always thought the track was great and it looked to me like a well set up and well run facility. (from what I have seen in pics and on TV, I have never been there) I for one will miss Glen Helen being on the national calendar.

Regardless of what disagreements GH and MXSports have, the 2010 race should still take place. GH had a contract to hold a race in 2010 which means they had a commitment to MXSport, the riders, the fans and the GH community which benefits from the business which comes to the area when the race is held there. If GH can't get a commitment for a longer term contract, so be it. Maybe thats something they should have considered when they signed the contract that included 2010.
Whether it was MX Sports or GH that actually decided to not hold the 2010 race, they made the wrong decision. Stand up to what you committed to whether you now feel the contract that YOU agreed to years ago is beneficial to you or not.

"I am often at odds with Davey (particularly on the smooth track concept, moto length, track length..."

This statement concerns me. These are the fundamental elements of outdoor motocross. Anyone looking to shorten track lengths and moto lengths should be burned at the stake, IMO.

My conclusion is simply an opinion drawn from other threads, including DC's vague attmept at clarity and also this statement by Jody. No crap this was a mutual business decision between the two party's. I'm not questioning that. I do question why GH along with possibly Hangtown and Washougal were only offerd a 1 year contract. Why were other tracks offered more? Doesn't seem like a wise business decison on Feldcamp's part to dump truckloads of $$ into the facilty when there was no gurantee of future revenue stream. It's an un-realistic request from MX Sports plain and simple, and one I hope all you smart guy's wouldn't accecpt if you were running a business.

I realize there has been much push and pull over the years between Feldcamp and the promoters and I don't think he's free from blame in this situation. I just feel MX Sports and DC intentionally backed him into a corner leaving him no other choice than to end the relationship.Seems MX sports intentionally put the onus on Feldcamp and in the end got what they wanted. No GH!! Dirty Pool imo. No matter what though, both sides had a responsibility to make this year's race happen.

It's just a shame, GH represented core MX and if anyone understood that, i figured it would've been DC. If there was ever an exception to be made in his master plan, GH should've been it.

In the end, I'm just dissapointed. This was the one race I looked forward to attending every year and this year was no different. I've attended many other venues and none even come close to the experience of GH. All these yahoos who are sitting on there hands blindly following DC have obviously never been to an Outdoor National at GH. If they have, imo, aren't true fans of the sport.

One more thing to rant about before I conclude. Smile I'm out 5 bills in airfare, damn it!!!

Does Youthstream still have a so. Cal. office? I bet something involved with the GP's turns up at GH and possibly any other track that has trouble with MX Sports.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Jody have some sort of partnership with Glen Helen?

I used to go to Kenworthy's when I first got into racing, then I went to Red Bud to watch the national. After the first trip to Red Bud I never went back to Kenworthy's because flattracks are worthless for watching a national.

I think we might see a push for Glen Helen being on the FIM calendar in 2011.

It is right next to the track at the end of the Walk of Fame.

Legal question FTE-Is it possible to write a contract with a clause specifying if one (or both) of the parties doesn't live up to the contract then the contract is null and void?
Rock, that's what we (sponsors) do with riders, that's pretty standard.

All you passionate Glen Helen folks should start asking why they didn't make the improvements to the facility that was requested 3 years ago...
They were most likely only offered a 1 year contract because they disregarded those requests.

I know for a fact that Southwick faced the same situation....improve the facility or be off the schedule.
Guess what they did?

They improved and have a contract to run the national.

Not that difficult really.

Once again....it is a business deal that 2 parties could not agree on....that's all.

Just look at the bright side. When MX Sports takes the nationals to the stock car tracks, maybe we will get an influx of those rabid roundy round redneck fans to fill the seats.

He's been talking about dropping one of his for a South East round for a while.

Everyone always speculated that it would be Delmonts though.

It's a shame, MT. Morris has a much more traditional feel too it.

Southwick has improvements? What were the major changes? A hospitality tent to prevent us cellar dwellers from walking around the outside of the track? One big inflatable enery drink balloon pitched between the fan fence line and what was once an unobstructed view of racers blasting thru a sand turn? Track banners that look good on tv but unfortunately block out the racing going on the backside of those tv banners? The only things I saw Southwick change was the concreate start with the right hand sweeper and a few more piss closets. Still worth seeing even with the "major improvements."

Jody is correct! And the MX sports had all this going on 4 years ago. Look at what Dave did to washougal, southwickan there own track. If you think thay(MXSPORTS) is out there helping these tracks. Then you are a cellar dweller. Why did thay get out of the nats at there track. Ever since the day MX Sports took over the sport , MX lost fans and tracks.
YOU GOT TO BE BLIND NOT TO SEE WHAT HE HAS DONE TO THIS SPORT MONEYCROSS?

Pala is mostly flat right now with a big step-up and a couple of small downhills. They have plenty of land out there where they could probably put together a solid outdoor track, but the bigger issue is accessibility. it is a single lane winding country road that takes 20-25 minutes from the freeway with no traffic. it will be a nightmare trying to get all the teams and spectators to the venue and there is no way around it. unless pala wanted to fork up 10's of millions to widen the road. i'd rather sit and watch it at home then be in traffic for 4-5 hours trying to get to the track.

They are expanding the road in plus there is the temecula route in, and they have plenty of land to work with the track for the national will be up above the main track that there already more in the hillside i bleieve adn they were claming 3min+ lap times for that track. Alost for all the whiners CHANGE HAPPENS i have gone to glen helen since i was 6 years old for the national. Will I miss it? Yes, but there are bigger and better things waiting just trust DC.

Sadly, I agree with this.

I would also add that anyone that has been to the National over the last decade has seen huge improvements in the track and and spectator access in the last several years as Jody pointed out. I can see why they wouldn't want to dump any more cash into the place if they weren't guaranteed a long term deal, but I know nothing, of course.

No, there aren't any suites or large bathroom structures, but, this is moto, you expect to wait in line for the porto can!

The only other National I've been to is Hangtown, and IMO, it can't hold a candle to GH as far as the national event. Guess I will take my son to the "Prequel" or whatever its called... I already told him there was a slight chance James Stewart and Chad Reed would be racing GH this year... oh well, LOL... sort of... April fools?Unsure
