Cooper Webb on Pulp a couple weeks back talked about how they setup the suspension different for dozer whoops versus the loader. He said it helps a lot knowing in advance because they setup the bike for the whoop section and just deal with it everywhere else.
Would there be better racing and more ability to pass in the turns if the bikes were not setup to handle whoops? I think they are insane and cant believe the skill it takes. Ive personally never hit a set of whoops, so consider that in terms of my perspective. At one point i remember Glen Helen had some whoops in the late 90s but i just went around them being a noob rider on a Thursday afternoon.
I dont think TV gives the whoops justice. So in terms of fans watching racing on TV, why even have them? Maybe that is where SMX comes into play. I just like watching the dudes rip. In person up close i could see the whoops being insanely entertaining. But on TV not so much. I think a split lane might be better racing for TV than a whoop section. Have they ever built a long split lane rhythm section? Since the tracks are getting so beat up with the gnarly horsepower, maybe more split lanes would help. Or ditch the 20 wide start. Just today on the Thursday show i think Osborne talked about starting position. He said if you have 18th gate pick youre never making it up front. So why not stagger the guys and free up floor space?
Im more a new fan of the sport. Didnt watch back in the day cause i dont really watch TV. Having Peacock changed everything and now i watch every race day live. Didnt realize at the time how cool it was watching Blair and Jim!!!
I'd like to see some old-school uneven, irregularly spaced whoops.
Yes beat me to it .
Interesting. Would they make them irregular on purpose or just part of the deal?
No whoops, no supercross, that’s stadium motocross.

Could the racing be better?
it’s the dumbing down of SX
racing would be better with old school loader whoops.
If the rest of the track is like current tracks; no. One less passing opportunity.
No jumping through those suckers.
On purpose, as part of the track design 🙂
I would like to see some variety with the whoops so they are not always killer whoops. I remember Lusk saying on track walk one night, he could see that the whoops were a little bit tamed down and he knew he would have a better shot at winning, and he won that night.
Those high speed rollers at one of the Monster Cup races were pretty rad. Would like to see a section like that at a regular SX.
split start with loader whoops. everyone is happy. or isn't..
I would never be a fan of taking whoops out - ever. However, I will say at Birmingham, what was supposed to be the whoops, was right in front of me. They basically just made a roller section in place of where the whoops were, and they had completely different rhythms based on entry from the inside of the corner, or the outside. There was a lot of different lines, different rhythms, and honestly decent passing. It was not whoops, but provided a lot more than I thought it would.
Whoops exist to be blitzed across the top. If you want jumpers, that's called a rhythm section of doubles.
Supercross needs obstacles that separate riders. Sections that are difficult to hit perfectly, difficult to go through fast, ect.
When you have vanilla tracks the racing gets worse. Nothing to seperate, nowhere to pass, Ect.
That long rhythm lane at Daytona did that better than anything else this season .
The closest thing we have had to whoops this year is Daytona. That should tell you everything you need to know.
In essence we have "No Whoop Racing" as it stands.
Pit Row
Wouldn't it also lead to a lot of boring races and few different winners?
Personally I'd like to see more racing, and tracks that lend themselves to more riders with the opportunity to win. My take is that's what I'm paying to see when I go to a Supercross. I want to see racing, not follow the leader.
Imagine the circus without lions and elephants 🤔
Clowns are cheaper.
So…we’ve got no Dragon’s Back…we’re down to 9 Whoops…and now we’re suggesting No Whoops?
Hmmmmmmm. Just REMOVE the name “Supercross” and call it Super TT by the time you’ve made it into what’s being suggested.
Damn, we’re getting soft and boring.
I need my lions and elephants 😳
No. They'll be back to 9+ whoops once Jett gets a couple years in the 450s
KTM Juniors are back this week so what whoops are there will be the micro version 😌
My take is I want to see the best compete on technical tracks. Which is what supercross is supposed to be. We have technicality thanks to weather and laps this years. Give me whoops, good rhythms, 180’s, and great racing will happen. The tracks today are like a mom kissing her teenager goodbye in the morning as she drops him off at high school.
I liked that section too. But agreed, the track also needed a whoop section. Every Supercross track needs whoops.
I'm surprised nobody agrees with me. Wonder what the racers would say. If they could be more aggressive in the turns I would think it would be more fun to watch. Especially with so many fans thinking the races have been a bit boring. Maybe I'm way off here but bike setup seems to matter more than skill for the majority of riders.
Here's a funny question. Where would Jett finish on a Beta?
speaking of whoops, what was the year at Daytona when they fixed the whoops after the heats and then it was a war zone on the first lap of the 250s? I don't think it was this link I posted, but maybe it is and I am just remembering wrong?
"Where would Jett finish on a Beta?"
No beta than his Honda.
I'll be here all week try the veal.
