Has anybody seen any issues out of VP fuel lately? It seems there’s a lot that have gotten bad fuel at spring nationals the last two weeks. We finished up in the pro class yesterday so I tore my riders bike down for a refresh and discovered it’s absolutely full of gunk. We were using VP u4.4 and DT-1 pre oiled air filters. The gunk is the color of DT-1 oil but the airbox is clean leading me to believe we’ve got in to a bad batch of fuel.

Did you oil the filter right before he went out? It looks like filter oil to me
Pre oiled filters straight from DT-1. I’d expect there to be oil in the airbox if it was filter oil.
Looks like filter oil to me. DT1 uses Bio oil and I don't trust that crap. Not sticky enough to stay put.

What was the weather like?
60’s, overcast. Many reports of bad C50 and MRX02 at Freestone and Oak Hill gumming up carbs and reeds. Maybe the U4.4 is a bad batch also, who knows at this point! I’ve pretty much ruled out filter oil because that crap wouldn’t come off with brake cleaner without a good bit scrubbing.
Ah yeah I wouldn’t think a pre oiled filter would have enough to suck into the engine, especially with the outside temp being so low. When I was using dt1, it would leak into the airbox once it got around 100 degrees outside if I over oiled
The mini folks are melting down over VP and frantically jetting for pump
That's a broad range of fuels to all have bad batches. At least 3 different ones. I get it, they maybe have started from same base stocks. But, man, if that's true, VP has a major FU on their hands. For the prices you pay for that stuff, wow, people must be livid. Another reason I'll stick to Avgas for 2-strokes.
We ordered a drum of it and picked up 3 cans in the meantime at oak hill and we’re scared to run any of it now. Running Pro6 in the meantime and killing the wallet until we get word back from VP.
Nice porting.
Appears they are having some issues right now. Here is another example I seen floating around. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10162031395842125&id=7692…
Yeahhh... that's not good. The comments.....
I would say I’m glad we’re not the only ones but I wouldn’t wish that crap on anybody’s engine. Never have seen one so gunked up before.
VP has allegedly done some sketchy stuff over the years. Been sued several times for it too.

I have never ran U4.4 before but when I asked twisted development about using it instead of pro6 they advised me not to because they have found it leaves “deposits in the engine”, I believe is how he put it. I thought no way would a quality fuel like vp do that, but maybe he was right. Which really sucks because pro6 costs a fortune and the smell makes it way into my house.
It’s really odd some of the deposits it’s leaving behind in some of the photos.
VPR is now added to the list.

Where can I find affected batch numbers for the VPR?
Gotta check my mrx02. Maybe my broken ribs that sidelined me saved me a headache. lol
Based on the email I got from VP Concerning VPR
X23L14 and X24A17
Found this in a can of vp c9 this past week. I wasn’t able to capture all of it but you can see some of it in the filter as well. We filter all our fuel and am happy we do or would have never seen it. Bunch of stuff in the bottom of the can also.
And VP wants to supply avgas....god I hope not
Hadn’t heard that…they trying to get in on the Unleaded push?
I know they already made the “Air Race” blend for Reno, but that was more of a race fuel than anything aviation specific.
Has anyone heard of C12 being added to the list?
Yes, I've heard they have a candidate for unleaded avgas in testing.
More batches added……Now I don’t trust the new batches either WTF
Jesus
Man, I just bought two pals of u4.4… I was a little bummed they were from last year but now I’m kind of glad. They were “G” months, which I believe is July, so looks like they were made just before some of the batches in question. So unless they get added to the list, I guess it worked out ok for me.
