Kind of a lame/weird topic, but back in the mid 2000s, Ricky and James (and Chad too but it was more from the first two) would always grab their own helmet over triples or what have you. Maybe it was OCD or a nervous tic? I've been watching some 2005 supercross races just now (the best riding 2 strokes is just so much fun to watch, they always have it wide open each corner). Anyways, wonder where they picked it up and why the next generation never seemed to emulate those guys.
Anyone else missing top riders grab their helmet over jumps?

I cant remember where i read or saw it. I believe it was Big James said that's how you could tell Bubba was comfortable and feeling good. If he was touching his helmet in the air he was feeling it that day.
Helmet has another meaning here !
It’s been a minute but I seem ti remember RC saying it was something to do with his Fox helmet/goggle fit and needing to adjust it, but I could be wrong.
Yep, Noticed this 100%

Jett lawrence and Jason Anderson didn't understand the assignment.
It’s a technique to help prevent arm pump and relax “grip” when in the air.
I thought I read that was what RC was taught or something similar.
He used to do it when he wore Bell & Oakleys.
To my recollection, supposedly RC started doing it when he turned pro because he'd switched from wearing Shoei helmets as an amateur to Bell's on PC. The helmet had a strange fit for him (don't recall what the actual issue was) so he would make this slight correction in the air on occasion. Obviously, being out front pretty much all the time, people took note so it caught on for a few years.
wild we all remember different reasons as to why RC did it.
My memory says he did it as a way to stay focused.
Maybe if Eli did that we would get beast mode more often...
When Stew started doing it in a moto it was a good sign for the rest of the moto
I think people assumed RC did it to prevent arm pump, but I recall reading something about the early Bell Moto helmets having a larger face guard and he would pull his helmet down because of it
You can see how large the front of the Bell Moto is in the pic
Helmets are just too comfortable these days
What race was this pic from?
Assuming Daytona based on the stands in back ground. I just don’t recall James runnin the 259 with JGR.
If i recall correctly, he wore 259 during practice at some events
It was daytona in practice only
Everyone wondering why he did that ovr most bigger jumps. I saw Ricky race 4 times in 97 . He dominated rt away. The billboard in 97 in Florida off i75 laying it flat was cool.
I could have sworn there's another time that he had 259. I remember him crashing over a triple in practice, when he had the 259 but I cannot find a video of that crash
