To be fair that's twice deegan has gone down due to hammaker off the start.

Not defending his behaviour but it has to be said.

People don’t want to think that it is Seth’s fault since he is kind of mellow and Deegan was cutting across the track according to RC to pinch people off where he should have let the inside go first but they were turning and maybe he or some people think the inside can or should check up or slow down if someone cuts across.  There was already one first turn pileup with Hammaker this year but it is usually just a racing accident.  People are more quick to blame Deegan tonight after seeing him cut the track, go to another semi or ram into Fornkner pretty obviously or talk like it was intentional too.  No doubt Deegan has skills and fans still but it’s hard to blame Seth after he’s had bad luck so far and doesn’t advertise himself much for the controversy.  Deegan was a favorite and with some injuries and bad starts this title is more out of reach so he’s got to be frustrated not knowing what to do or under other orders.

If we’re talking playing it smart with race craft I have seen Jett swing way wide on the outside this year which looked foolish to give up positions but he didn’t crash so it’s better to lose a few spots than to crash and be dead last with the bike or rider banged up.  The first time was obviously an accident but when Deegan saw that it Seth involved somehow again with a different color bike and how it could end his champ hopes I’d be upset too.  Ironically, Seth pulled a good start from the outside to pick up a podium.

Cooper has been a good racer throughout his career and should be a contender but I was surprised about the claimed run-in with Jett.  Sometimes lines come together with not much room to pass but everyone isn’t gonna make it easy on Jett to run away with a win like we hoped to make him earn it.  Thankfully there was no damage but if people keep ramming into Jett it’s just going to make him more popular since i just saw he has already led the most laps, just had a few minor mistakes, and “we can work with speed”.

I expect more paint swapping as the season progresses. These vets are over the popularity phase of their career and want to win. It could lead to some ruffling of feathers. This great season is about to get better! 🙂

I'd like to see a Weege or Dunlop track walk after each race.

Hell yes!

That would be great!

People gave you a lot of thumbs down but someone in some sport came up with the term “rubbing is racing”.  Hopefully not at 200 mph or at the Isle of TT.

image-20240310223451-1

I had no idea the rules consider contact to be routine and then to make another rule about being obligated to minimize the risk to others.  I always considered riders making contact an accidental racing incident but if one motorcycle is going to make contact with another motorcycle it is hard to believe it is not intended to cause injury especially on a Supercross track.  Just imagine sending a rider into another oncoming lane of traffic.  Anytime a rider makes another one go down they are risking a long list of injuries depending on how they fell from concussions to fractures.

Are we only going to give penalties if a rider gets hurt or not by being taken out “contact”?  In most cases I can name plenty of riders who don’t make contact to pass and they tend to be the fan favorites with a longer career and better results not being petty with emotions or payback.  It’s a small racetrack and there’s already enough chances for accidental contact like riders making jump mistakes or others landing on them.  These riders are pros and they can easily pick a different creative line like Ricky talks about swinging wide to make for close fun battles instead of just putting someone in the cheap seats all race.  “Beast mode” doesn’t take everyone out.

If a rider rattles they got to be prepared to get rattled back.  It may make for less amusing of a tv program to ride clean but at least you know they earned it.  The LCQ is an interesting race with less skilled riders usually more desperate to get in the main but they know it’s a tough sport and aren’t out to injure each other.

They had a lot of rain beforehand and it was light rain during the race.  If it was good weather without a lot of big ruts, transition pockets, and limited corner lines it would have been more interesting.  They tamed down the track about safety because it was already so wet.  It could have been worse if it was all red clay and not be able to clear the jumps.  It was good enough to ride but sucky enough to make racing and passing hard.  Is the sign girl ok whats the AMA rule about contact with her?

Webb is not as likely to get injured with his riding and awareness as Ricky says and I can imagine Jett having plenty of chances for mistakes or other issues so yeah if we are talking from now to the end of the season it’s hard to believe Jett will just hole shot and win everything with no challengers between heat races and main events.  Even if they don’t crash into him Jett is going to have to make passes where the vet riders can ride a wide bike if needed so that’s another source of challenge.  Jett already had to deal with Anderson for a few laps to pass him and if the lap times are similar someone could get away in the lead.  No one’s injured and Chase is almost better.

One thing I did notice from last night was Sexton had a few moments where his front end wiggled and he had to correct it.

Maybe it's a Chase thing, and not the bikes?

The 30 seconds board is now a sign symbol for how many seconds you will win by when your girlfriend sign-girl blocks other racers.  Lawrence really is the Justin Bieber of motocross since I have heard of women throwing themselves at men but now she is throwing herself at oncoming traffic taking one for the team.  Give her a free box of donuts and lifetime pass to the Lawrence fan area.  Talk about another hot woman stopping traffic.

No worries mate.  He can just cut them all on the track like Deegan did and only get docked 2 spots which puts him 3rd on the podium even if a dead last start.  He won’t even need a fresh set of tires.

People gave you a lot of thumbs down but someone in some sport came up with the term “rubbing is racing”.  Hopefully not at 200 mph or at the Isle of TT.

"Rubbing is racing" came from stock cars, where the driver is surrounded by a steel protective cage/car.

“Playing the long game” implies that you have some strategy to eventually prevail over your opponent, other than hoping they crash.
