It was different, the left side (slow side), and the right side (faster side). He chose to ride the left side...
Historically no it wasn't 🤷♂️
I don’t think it was a great race and that’s because there was that rhythm that was too big of a difference maker, and took a bunch of guys out. If the whole race comes down to one section it makes for lame racing.
Dudes literally looked like C class riders through it. I like seeing these guys at their peaks. Fighting for fractions of seconds. Not 3 seconds in one stupid rhythm section
Agreed. Separators are good, but not when its only 1 guy making it somewhat work. The section was awful. They top guys on the planet couldn't make a decent rhythm out of it. Terrible job by the track crew. Your job is to make a track raceable. Not sketchy as hell and put riders into a survivor mode. I don't know why they never cleaned up that section before the mains.

So they should water down the track so everyone does all the same sections the same way?
They reduce the whoops to 9 and take out the dragon backs:
Vital members- where is the separations ? Tracks are too easy...
Metal start grates:
Vital members - no technique needed, starts are just automatic. We want technique rewarded.
But create a tough rhythm section:
Vital members - Make it easy so everyone can jump it, not fair for the slower guys....
Lol, you can't make this stuff up!
It has nothing to do with watering anything down. The section was the way it was due to the condition of the dirt after all the rain they got.
Similar to what they’ve done this week, adjustments should have been made to the track to work better with the weather and dirt they were working with.
When a section hurt 3-4 professional riders, and almost hurt an additional maybe 5-6… it’s beyond “building a challenging section” and just a safety hazard.
I think you're confusing an "unnecessarily rough/rutted and cut down rhythm section with almost zero flow" with "the same rhythm section that was raceable and fun on Press day before they cut it down"
it just goes to show how GREAT the racing can be when there are rhythm options that reward those that go BIG. Otherwise everyone just does the same simple rhythms and it's just follow the leader.
Isn't it the same rhythm section Chase was quadding in the first heat when he was chasing Kenny...
What about when Kenny wheel tapped that wall jump, should they have changed that too to make it easier for everyone else?
I think a lot of ppl missed the part where dB said a race that he was watching live in the stadium. Also I'm pretty sure he was only talking sx.
So mentioning mx races from 1982 is pretty irrelevant.
We should take his comment as it is written.
“In person”
it’s his opinion and he could be right. Most likely he was not in Toronto for JS or to see MM at the USGP, Magoo in Europe etc.
very well could be the best DB has seen n person. It was an extremely difficult track and he did gap the king of Daytona pretty quickly. I’m no Jett fanboy but I see nothing wrong with what DB said…. I like his commentary
Its like we're typing to a high school message board. Clearly not getting what we're saying. There is such a thing as a track being too rough to race on moderately safe.
I made the mistake and got hooked. I'm sure his site saw an influx of traffic. ESPN and all the other sites, bloggers, etc... do the same thing. Stephen A Smith makes over 20 million a year doing it. Click-bait is big part of the plan. Fool me once shame on him. Fool me twice shame on me!
I'm still surprised more Vital members didn't call him out. But, Jett fever is at pandemic levels so it's like the march of the penguins. Marching towards 72 they go 🐧 🐧 🐧
The biggest takeaway from these four pages of counter arguments is that Daniel Blair must have *personally* seen every great ride in history.
For someone who has a Patreon site that charges people to listen, one would think his depth of the sport from a historical standpoint would be pretty deep. I've been wrong before...
DB is one of those people who sais stuff just to get clicks and threads started like this, I don’t really value much he has to say. He’s got a boy crush on the kid no doubt but the ride wasn’t anything super memorable in my opinion. It wasn’t a top ride from eli or chase and the track wasn’t really one to offer a mind blowing ride.
I don’t think DB saw any of those races in person. What was the most impressive ride you've witnessed? Mine would be Stew at Anaheim or Glen Helen and I was there for Marty, David’s and RJs deeds bitd. No disrespect but I was floored after seeing bubba lay his bike flat 2 inches off the ground 4 feet from the lip of some of the downhills at The Glen. A close second would be standing at the bottom of Banzai Downhill at Saddleback and watching Magoo bottom TF out of a 125 lap after lap with blood all over his chest protector and his bars down to the tank
Hahah... I love it! old people think racers from their time was and is the greatest.
RC said a brief comment during Daytona when asked, 'would you want to race' or something similar, he answered something in the lines 'I don't have the skills...' ... people going to hate this, but what if we say the top10 kids have better technique than James(S) and he wouldn't stand a chance... take it up one notch more, Magooo... seriously, his riding style looks like a goon compared to Chase Sexton!
Nothing wrong with the greats from their area, but old people think those transfer to the future.
I say boldly, no one from anytime past could hang with Jett or Chase, their technique is way above your former heroes. BUT, it doesn't take away that they were good during their time. In 20years the technique has evolved again (on the Varg
) and Jett will not be able to go as fast as those who have embraced the 'Varg technique'
https://oldguysrule.com <--- but they are not fast compared to todays youth.
Pit Row
It's the Vital way..
Very bold statement but what would you expect coming from Blair. Villo mxon 2007 on the 250f was maybe the most impressive. Eli at hangtown and glen helen in 2015 was impressive. Watching James on a 125 at buddscreek coming from last to first was another epic ride. Some things blair says are just silly
The ’78 Trans-AMA Unadilla race between Hannah and De Coster. Roger won and retired a year or two later.
Also RJ destroying Bob at Unadilla '88 or '89 where Bob acknowledged a changing of the guard after the race.
I grew up near Unadilla 🙂
Rc also said. Stewart was better than him. Lol.
I'm confused.. people are upset and saying that 1 section was the difference maker.. Yet Jett wasn't the only rider doing it? He was the only one doing it out of the top 3.. But lets not act like Jett was the only one. All riders had the same option to do that line.
What happen to "its a section that separates the boys from the men" that was commented before the main event started? or is that no longer relevant?
Wonder how all these conversations would be going "if" Tomac had won and it was Tomac doing that section and not Jett.
What's the difference between Bubba jumping the wall at Daytona and making up several seconds in a lap compared to Jett jumping a quad and making up several seconds? except one is considered boring and the other is considered amazing?
Hes criminally underrated in general, he's pretty much the best rider in recent years until jett came along.
Sickest riding style too.
That JS7 ride to me is the best ride on a SX track especially the fact he got up and kept doing it.
I would say 2011 ride was slightly more risky but yeh your point is spot on.
Here’s the funny thing. RC IS THE GREATEST. He dominated every aspect of the sport besides a rough 2 years in SX. Destroyed the world multiple times at MXDN, and never lost a motocross season. No one has come close to his level of dominance. Before his time, or after. For whatever reason you want to tag on to make the argument, it’s invalid.
Exactly. Not even close.
Jett won the race, stewart didnt. Results count.
silly comment to make pubicly. Daniel never got to see hannah at Las Vegas national. Insane speed.
Post a reply to: Daniel Blair’s best ride he’s ever seen??
