I'm going to the races next weekend and praying for good weather. I sat in the rain at A1 2005 and it ruined my only trip to Cali to see races. Many years of going to Atlanta & New Orleans SX races has made me love the Domes but I'm hoping for the best. Does anyone have experience with Uptown B'ham and stadium area? I might stay out by Leeds and go to Barber's Museum for the 8th time, but I'm considering staying near the stadium, walking around all day, enjoying the pit party, eyecandy, and avoid the parking hassles and costs for 2 or 3 vehicles that we will be bringing. There are 100's & 100's of tickets still available. Has anyone had any luck holding out till Friday or Saturday to see price drops on the "resale tickets" that have been bought up by prospectors? Thanks for any info you have to offer. It's time to MOTO WFO in the South!!

If you're going to stay close, there's maybe 2 hotels that are truly close, and you're not going to want to be walking from anything farther than those. Either stay at the couple places within view of the stadium, or drive from farther out. Other than the race itself, there's not much worth walking to from the close places.

We are staying at a hotel a couple of blocks away as well, save the stress of parking and traffic leaving the stadium.  Walk around a bit, go to the pit party, etc. (also praying for good weather).

I hope this venue does well, it is great having another SX in the south!

I’m bummed about no Atlanta race but hopefully the Alabama one will be good. I wonder if it will be as much of a success as Atlanta used to be.

I have a feeling this will be a one and done deal at Birmingham. Stadium is small and crappy.

They need to figure out how to make New Orleans work. Houston isn’t bad either.

It's not at legion field. It's a very new stadium similar in design to where Dan Diego sx is but holds 12,000 more people than San Diego. Haven't been to an event there but looks nice enough driving by.

Agreed, the new stadium looks fantastic (even good parking).  The size/shape should have the track closer to the fans as well so it may end up being an awesome race to attend.  My biggest concern with this venue, if we do not fill the stadium, it won't be back next year.  I could not make it to the Nashville race, so I was thrilled to see Birmingham on the schedule so I jumped on that one.  I guess we will find out in a couple of weeks, but I have my doubts this area will sell out a SX race (hope I am wrong).

I'm hoping for good weather and a good crowd to make this a race that will stay on the schedule for years. The layout is different than the NO/ATL Domes I've been to, but it might be better. Bleacher seating will be different, but should offer more mobility to move around to different areas once the race is started and ticketholders have pitched their tents. I'm betting the endzone seats will give best viewing of runs through the rhythm sections and whoops plus good views for the 180 bowl turns. If not, I'll move around.

40K+ capacity will mean there's lots of seats available after they cover the areas too close to the track. New Orleans Superdome never sold more than 20K tickets '98-'01, so that's why it got dropped. Atlanta sold out 70K+ every year I went from '02-'11 so it wasn't for lack of ticket sales that it got dropped. I'm in NE Miss'ippi now so 175 miles to B'Ham is closer than I've ever been for my SX/MX craving! Cya at the races!!

Birmingham is always nice to visit, great scenery/terrain, nice people, and BARBER'S!! If you like bikes and haven't been, you gotta git yore butt over there soon. I went when they opened in '03 with new racetrack, SBK races, and 5 story museum with 400+ bike displays. It's awsome! AHRMA vintage days in the fall are lots of fun and 6 trips to the museum still hasn't been enough for me. You could touch the bikes in '03 but that got abused so they stopped it the next year. I durn near got kicked out in '04 on the way home from Atlanta SX because I didn't heed the advisement "Don't touch the displays" until they put Deputy Fife on my butt for licking the blue pipes on the Britten V1000.

Come back to Minneapolis. Open up the floor like at a Monster truck show and make a huge track. Don't forget to open the doors to vent the fumes...

Atlanta got dropped in my opinion because they didn't want the dirt and exhaust in that new billion dollar stadium. Once covid hit that was all the excuse they needed to boot SX although it never affected the Falcons home games LOL. My thoughts is they will never allow Feld back in that dome, if they want an Atlanta round its the Nascar track or nothing. Which sucks IMO, pit entrance is a joke cramming that many people in that tunnel at one time and I was not a fan of sitting that far from the track.

I thought pretty hard about going to Bham as its only 2hrs from me but I don't trust March weather in an outdoor stadium in the south. It's a shame no other cities around here have closed roof stadiums.

I stopped in there this morning. Getting stuff together. Looks like a mad dash to get the track done and covered up.

I’ll throw some recommendations together when I have time. Birmingham is underrated. They have one of the better food scenes in the country. Lots of history. Good music.

Anyone from the area know if they step up police presence for events? Not thrilled about walking a mile back to the hotel at 10pm in downtown Birmingham.

I think you’re right but hoping it turns out well.  I live a little over an hour away but not sure if I’m even going.  They’re giving a chance of rain for Friday and Saturday plus it has rained all evening today where I live. I just hope the rain holds off. The weather should be decent with a high in the mid 70s and low in mid 50s. I’m going to wait until the last minute to decide.

I'm thinking about getting endzone seats to get good sightlines of the runs through the whoops and rhythm sections. The TV shots of riders coming at ya and going away look better to me than side shots of these sections. 50 yard line seats on either side will only give good views of the riders on the side of the track you're sitting on in this stadium because there aren't really high seating areas. I'm guessing here and I welcome other opinions and suggestions. I always move around during the races and check out other areas when possible. At A1 in '05 I didn't have to go to my "purchased" seats, up high and in the rain, until the main events were getting started. I was "escorted" to my seats by a very diligent crew of agents who had been watching my gang move around trying to stay under the covered section where it was dry. I mean, DRY-EEERRR! It was still a great SX experience. Ya-Hoo, gate drops in 4 days in 'Bama!!
