(This wasn't a photo, I took a screenshot from the TV broadcast).

Thanks for the info, used to get a laugh out of it also over 20 years ago from Motocross Madness 2 with the Tag game which added a beach ball to the back of the bike haha.

Gonna go with Smith, Hannah, LaPorte and Glover.

I'll wait to see if I made the Dean's List or if I'm headed to Detention Hall.

Some awesome pics in this thread.

But i didnt see this one, and it while its an awful shot, it captured a great moment that i often think is one of the most poignant of recent times.

What has always caught my attention about that photo is how relaxed his facial expression is - not a hint of intensity or exertion - like he's doing a sighting lap.

He looks like a guy out on his touring bike on a relaxing Sunday afternoon ride rather than shredding on a pro track at insane speed on a genuine works bike.

Yeah, it's been a minute since I've seen an open-face helmet on the line - probably around 40 years now - and even rarer to see someone without a Scott facemask (or similar).

And they thought Wardy was tough for just running the Jofa! Would love to know how much Broc made for wearing those goggles from Seer. He didn't wear 'em long.

No, I realize they were essentially "outlawed" for pro racing a long time ago; it just dated the photo to that time period.

Sort of like seeing the pudding-bowl helmets or real leathers - you know it's not current. Nowadays the pros wear pantyhose so the fans can see their twig and berries. Whistling

This is the open-face cousin to it and the last one I remember seeing in use at the pro level. Seems like Glover and Lechien were the last to use them?

Scott hit a homerun with their mask. Everything else looked clunky in comparison.

Stanton wore a Arai in 1989, the face guard was removable...

Yep. I remember they had the "add-on" face guard/mask. IIRC, it seems like it was considered structurally equal (or very close) to the protection provided by a full-face with their "bolt-on" guard as opposed to the separate Scott/Jofa/JT type.

I've never been able to wear Arai's - wrong head shape - so I can't speak from experience.

I always liked the feel of an open-face, much like riding without a chest protector. But then I remember I'm dressing for the crash, not just comfort - just not worth the risk. Cool
