That chest/back protector might have saved his life. Hope you guys are all wearing one.

Curious. How so? It's just plastic to protect from roost

I hate that this was the pitboard 5 seconds before his get off. A lot of people were struggling with that section all night and it ultimately bit him too, just worse.

The plastic offers impact protection when your spine hits the concrete. Certainly better than nothing.

That sucks so bad. I thought he was riding so good tonight. Just one little mistake and couldn't recover.  If he doesn't have bad luck he'd have none at all.

Least surprising thing I’ve ever seen. Same shit every year. Sincerely hope he can make a full recovery.

God damn dude, this isn't 1990. Have you worn modern body armor?

Horrible message to send a rider: “Hey, even you’re probably focused on trying to stay in the moment, just think about being mentally tough right now.

Sorry, I’m in the anger stage of grief.

He was looking the best this year I thought working with Rhino imo. Plus, his maturity and attitude have changed a lot. Ryan is the right person to be in his corner right now. The emotional highs and lows he’s gone through could probably leave everyone else in the dust.

Forkner is very lucky he landed on the concrete.  Imagine if he would have went head first into the face of a jump or whoop, it would have been game over.  Reminds me of Webb's air to concrete on his back.

And Webb lived to win again.

Forkner has one the unluckiest records I’ve ever seen. They always seem to happen at the worst time. I respect his heart, to keep coming back because his career has been brutal:

2018 SX: Breaks his collarbone battling Osborne for title (was only 7 points down with 3 rounds to go)

2019 SX: Crashes out while in points lead, misses all of motocross

2020 SX: crashes out in final race (was only 7 points down going into it). Misses motocross

2021 SX: Crashes out in round 3. Misses rest of Supercross.

2022 SX: Crashes with Jett round 3. Misses most season, Title is done

2022 MX: Crashes before round 1. Out for the season after round 1

2023 SX: Crashes before first turn. Out for the season

2023 MX/SMX: Crashes a few times, misses last 2 rounds of SMX and most of MX

2024 SX: Crashes round 2, likely done for the season

7 straight years of missing almost all of your SX and/or MX seasons is absolutely brutal. Can’t imagine the agony he’s in

I just hope he can recover and isn't too badly injured. I'm not really a Forkner fan, but that kid has been through a lot.

That was a heavy heavy hit. Glad to hear the update was getting his shoulder checked at the end of the broadcast.

I was wondering why he didn't let Deegan by and cruise on that treacherous track to maintain that big points lead.

I had just told my buddy he would be better letting Deegan by given the track conditions.

Why did they have him up walking? Another questionable move by the alpinestars crew. He just landed on his head and neck from 20 feet in the air… They dont have an xray on the track so they have no way of knowing if theres anything serious going on in there. Just put him on the board to be safe. Brian Moreau is suing for what he says is being moved inappropriately, this stuff is serious.

Also how insane is it that they just leave bare concrete next to massive rhythm sections? On those sections if you crash to the right theres nowhere to hit but the concrete. Is saving a couple loads of dirt worth having such a dangerous obstacle?

Came to my head too but He wasn't overriding though, watching Hammaker and Mcadoo scared the shit out of me all night.

Wow, when you put it all out there in black and white.

He has spent more time recovering than racing.

Just brutal.

And he still comes back to winning speed everytime in SX, that's something else

Or foam? Something better than concrete.

This right here. Moto media should be interviewing the head of the crew and asking them what the protocol is? Didnt they learn from the Morreou (no ideal is spelling but I believe you know who I mean) incident??

Not to change the subject, but he has missed more racing in his career than Cinciarulo

Yeah, he should’ve been immobilized on a board until they knew 100% that he didn’t have some kind of a spinal injury.  Hate it for him and hope he’s okay.

For me it was harder to watch his face walking towards the mule. It was heart breaking. Poor Austin. On the flip side, there is always next year he is 26 I think? we've seen older riders getting it done after many seasons. His speed alone will give him another shot for next year in case he is out for the remaining of 2024 250SX.
