Tire knob size

Not my idea but I heard someone mention it recently, if the knob height is reduced and made mandatory
(spec tire) would it protect the tracks from breaking down so fast?
450s tear tracks apart, particularly the whoops, hopefully allow closer racing for the entire main event.

Knob size, different format, less practices, only 9 whoops, spec jumps, and all other options have been expressed.

We need to slow the damn bikes down. 450s are just too big.

The 125/250 classes made sense, but here we are

I’m just glad you specified “tire” in the topic title, given some of the other threads on vital right now…

The 250's do all the same obstacles other than the absolute biggest rhythms.  The sport is dangerous and always has been.

Hate when peeps just talk about the track being rough......  It is motocross.  Rougher the better.  You want smooth then flat track is your game.

It can still be rough but on the weekend everyone was just surviving, not racing.

I think if you reduce the knob size, you reduce traction. I’m not a tire expert so if anyone has different information I’d love to hear it.

I agree that the 450’s have too much power. Maybe 350’s?

"Size matters" is also applicable here 🙂

NASCAR once had restrictor plates.

Imagine a rule of a 38-40?mm restrictor on 450’s… i think most now have 44-46-ish throttlebodys?

Run that or 350cc unrestricted!

(Or max injector size/max valve lift/ridicuolus dB limit or whatever)

Some people will say: then its no point racing a 450…

BINGO! 😎

Webb was highlighting the 450 power issue perfectly at the last race... taking super low and inside lines in the corner, sometimes with barely any rut and with a big handful 20 feet before the jump could clear a triple out with ease

You couldn't ride the track like that in the 125/250 2 stroke days

Racing was better then. Had to be perfect in rhythms, sounded & smelled good!

I'm working on a few colognes. The MX version will be called Bel-Ray and the SX version Castrol R 💰

Yeah, a mandatory knob size would probably disqualify me from competition!

No, you could run undersized.

On my 250sx, depending on the dirt type, I would run a rear trials type tyre on single track enduro.

Better traction all around until it became deep mud.
