Only after the final race...

Only after the final race...

This clause from the rules says ''Mandatory participation includes but is not limited to...''

I'm not familiar with US contract law but in the UK that wouldn't pass the sniff test. How can you place contractual obligations on riders unless you state exactly what they are?

Governing bodies have rules which participants must adhere to, the FIM governs F1, F1 rules are black and white, participants creatively interpreting the rules, staying within the letter of the rules, the FIM doesn't penalize this, but they do issue directives, which stop the interpretation in the future.

The AMA does not do this, most AMA rules are not black and white, they are open to interpretation, but individual penalties and the rational behind each penalty are not publicized, and the reason other participants are not penalized is not publicized.

Man Vital is funny, one week we want guys like Craig and Jett to be accountable for why they had bad nights and WE WANT ANSWERS they should have to answer us fans.

Coop skips out on required interview and gets fined and everyone is like this is BS he doesn't have to do interviews if he doesn't want to!

I didn't see anywhere someone said Coop shouldn't have to do interviews if he doesn't want to.     There were extenuating circumstances here.

If Jett was on the podium the AMA would have fined coop for potentially getting everyone else sick.

Other far more established sports have rules in place around this, why don't they just copy them? I am pretty sure F1 drivers are obligated to be there for press at whatever point their race ends, even if they crash out of the race in some embarrassing situation they are pulled into the press box to face the camera's. They may not like it, but the fans clearly do because the popularity of F1 is booming at the moment.

He was healthy enough to win the overall.   If people want answers and press to ask questions they need to have rules like this and enforce them. No matter who the rider .

Just like a normal guy that works at a job without paid sick days, the fine is just the cost of doing the job if You break the rule.  It must have been worth the $$ for Cooper to take off.

I was wondering why they did not talk to the winner.  Not that most podium interviews really offer much. But it makes for a not very professional look when the winner is MIA.  I don't watch any other sports, so maybe its not a big deal if a fighter in UFC wins and then skips out before TV got a soundbite. Or the winner of a Nascar race just skipping the interview . Unless he required medical attention the fine makes sense.

People always talk about wanting this sport to be more professional, well part of that is media obligations. I don’t see the issue here.

So  basically....the riders health and exposing others to illness be damned.       Check.

Then they put him in the presser hacking constantly with the potential to make AP and Tomac sick.   Brilliant.

The idiocy of the AMA appears to show no signs of abating any time soon.

Imagine him coughing up there in, say, 2021?

What if they made a rule that made it so a sick rider would not be allowed to race , or show up at the race? For the safety of the others involved?

I'm sure Cooper is not going to miss the money the fine costs him. And it might be enough $$ to keep it from becoming the cool thing to do.

They do have rules in place, he was fined for not following the rules!

Do we not have enough rules already?

Personally I feel like it shouldn’t be an instant fine. Give the warning, state the reason and then make it a heavier fine if the rider does it again.

How do you know he hasn't been given a verbal warning in the past?

Almost sounds like they are treating him like an employee requiring him to be somewhere at a certain time. I wonder if AMA rules trump IRS rules for contractors vs employees? But I am sure Coop just laughed at the fine anyway. I thought I seen him doing an interview after a race at some point not looking to good, sure hope what's her face had her vaccine.
