Nice one! He really had it in control this year.

Aussie boys seemed to be set back a bit from the start, but didn't really seem to be anywhere near a stage win either. Kind of expected more speed out of Sanders

but sanders is only just coming back from a broken femur I think he didn’t even think he would be racing it so considering that his done well

Crazy that after so much racing, it was only a gap of 11 minutes. Then a minute and a half back to third. Blink Those guys are consistent!

Excellent ride by Ricky. He was methodical and calculated when he needed to be but still had the speed to run up front. At one point about 40 hrs in he and Ross Branch were separated by 1 second. Very close racing this year. Big congrats to the Hero motorcycles team for getting 2nd and beating all of the austrian teams despite not even making a production 450 bike.

Y'all have to hear this story though.

So this year they did a 2-day marathon stage where they had camps set up at different checkpoints. You had essentially all of the first day to make it as far as you could, then you would camp there and continue the next day. Everyone had to stop riding at 5:30PM, so everyone rode as far as they could but if they weren't going to make it to the next camp by 5:30 they would stay put. Well one privateer from Italy kept riding past a camp too close to the cutoff and was still in the middle of the dunes at 5:30. So he parked his bike at the top of a dune, dug a big hole and buried himself in sand to stay warm and slept there staring up at the stars all night. Heck of a race experience.

Yes, but a Honda 450 that bears No relation to other Honda 450s.

Pretty much All New this year. I think the previous generation bike - dual cam head and all , so No relation to what Honda sell - was said to have been used for near on 10 years, though that seems a bit 'off' to me.

Yes, the Factory Team KTM / KTGG / KTHusky riders have been on  a quite different bike for the last 3 years - a more conventional frame than the previous Team bikes, and Customer 450RRs ( which one can buy) have .

A truly Great effort by Brabec. Always there, minimal mistakes, and making good use of the 'Bonus Points' that riders can gain.

I'd sort of hoped Ross Branch could win - Purely from the aspect of Another manufacturer winning, other than  Honda, or one of the 3 colours of KTM.

Ricky's Girlfriend (?) was doing well in one of the SXS classes, I think - haven't looked at those results yet.

I only followed the event lightly this year , though I never fanatically do like some , as shown on  the ADVRider web site. My Crazy, Little Old Lady Mum is in a Hospital in Vietnam, and I've been  spending a lot of time dealing with Hospitals,  4 of which, so far, that she's been in, the Cruise Line ( I tried to stop her from going on a cruise - they are petri dishes of disease) she was with, The F**king Bastard Travel Insurance Bastards, and the Australian  Consulate. So, probably going over to Vietnam to take care of her, next week.

Really stoked for Brabec. Also stoked for Sanders and Price that they both finished healthy. They'll be back. As will Klein & Howes. Congratulations to our USA riders, Jacob Argubright, Mason Klein, Weston Carr, Kyle McCoy. Sorry if I missed any one. All a bunch of seriously badass riders.

The Hero effort started from the Team that ran the Husky effort, Speedbrain. The  head honcho of it was, and still is under Hero, Wolfgang Fischer

Husky; as in the very last Italian Era Huskies - with the Kymco engine original made for BMW's G450X.

As a Hero, at first it had a frame similar to the BMW, but it now uses a Trellis frame, that's  Very influenced by the KTM groups trellis frame, but, at first with the Kymco engine.

From what I can gather, it's now a different engine (you can see that by the positioning of the clutch and clutch cover style - the Kymco engines had the clutch on the crankshaft), but buggered if I know what it is. Finding pictures of it undressed during a rally, has been difficult. Much like finding pictures of the HRC Hondas, but some of the one previous to this years, have been taken, and shown to we plebs. Not sure if the bloke / blokes / blokettes that took the pictures  have been dealt with by Honda's 'Men'. I haven't found any  nudey pics of the new Honda, so far.

Hero made 5.7 Million bikes in 2023. Their biggest year was 2018(?) with something like 8 million. They are a Massive company / group of companies. So, not short of $$$$$$$$$$$.

Damn. Well, get your ass over there and get on it! You know how to handle this kinda stuff. Positive thoughts and prayers sent your way…well, Mom’s way!

Ricky’s girlfriend Sarah Price finished 4th overall in the SSV class. She was sooooo close to a podium finish. She had an historic stage win, too - first American female to win a stage.

I looked them up. Their entry-level commuter motorcycles retail for less than $1000. No wonder they sell so many.

Thanks, I know the company is massive , but has not really done much in the performance side ,  to make a machine that lead most the way, and nearly beat the might of a full blown hrc and ktm group factory efforts is pretty amazing

Excellent ride. Was hoping Sara could also make a podium. If you want to experience some gut-busting LOL comedy, flip on closed captions. Must be a bot. "Dark Hour", "Pray Peck". Never the same mistake twice.

Been friends with Ricky for 15+ years now, since he first started desert racing. It’s crazy to see how far he’s come from the 2010-12ish Ricky. He put his head down and started clicking off championships until he reached the peak in 2020 Dakar, and now he did it again. An America legend.

I’m also good friends with Skyler and to see him go out early with a mechanical after his last Dakar was a huge bummer. Both of these dudes have made it to the tip of the spear in rally, and from where they came from to get to the top is wild. I hope they both write a book someday chronicling their journeys to the top.

I believe their chassis may be the trellis frame KTM but their motor is in house from Hero Germany. Changed from the BMW/Husky motors from pre 2014
