Any idea what broke on the Factory HRC Honda? I could not tell if it would not start or something like clutch or transmission issue? Flame on…
The way he was acting it seemed like it must have been running. Must have been clutch or transmission related.
It didn't make it very far in the main. Curious also.
"electrical issues..."
The feeling they got when they saw a clutch plate laying on a shop towel. Brutal

In those condition it can only be the damn clutch. I found it shocking that it happened so soon.
For mud races they all need to revert back to a good ol clutch cable. That way you at least have a little control over your destiny.
Shimoda was also one of my fantasy riders...
I would think after the heat they would have changed engines. No since in taking chances for a title guy. Put a fresh engine in and send it for the main. Not a good look that it only made a few corners. His championship is over now
Imo he should’ve stayed on the Kawi. Mitch’s bikes have more power and are more reliable.
The 250R IS a clutch cable. Only the 450R has a hydraulic.
The way he went down, I wonder if it hit the shifter hard enough to break the shift drum or pop a shift fork off internally?
Jo’s bike has a hydro
So can we call that Myth “debunked”? 😂
I initially thought the same thing, then realized he probably signed before the engine found its upgrades. Honda has been on a run with the Lawrence brothers along with the updated bike. It may be down on power but I suspect it may not be much but maybe more so how it is delivered.
Did you guys notice the broadcast kept saying Phil had electrical issues at A1, when in interviews he was open about it being a fuel injection issue lol
That is because Phil is a pro and knows how to circumvent these situations with class. Phil is pure moto, was really hoping the racing gods were going to bless him with a podium. But alas, Phil got Phild
The injector is activated by an electrical pulse. I don’t know if Nicoletti ever said it was mechanical injector failure or electrical.
Thought only the Club & Beta bikes failed, who would’ve thought a mighty HRC bike could have issues 🤷♂️
Vohlands bike went out not long into the main from what looked like a similar issure. It happens to the best of bikes on nights like that.
Pit Row
People often throw the ECU, injector (as said, it's a 12v supply and a few milliseconds ground pulse from the ECU to trigger it) and related sensors into the "Fuel Injection" or "EFI" box.
was good to see him have a good ride though, was hoping for a podium but Marchbanks was going well and deserved it. Phil is always funny on the mic, such a legend.
I think Vohlands died because he was abusing the clutch. Shimoda is known to not be that hard on it
Wasn't there some stupid little thing at the motodesnations a few years back that the mud caused a dnf. The amount of mud last night was insane and not normal, even kr94 said so.
Pro Circuit to Honda not working out well for him.
"Electronic" Fuel injection.... 'EFI'...
Bike only lasted 1/2 a lap into the main... say goodbye to that 250 regional title this year. Hate it for Jo.
Pretty wild to see the bike shit the bed 4 corners into the first lap. That absolutely ruined any shot he had at a championship, hes outside the top 10 in points already. Id definitely like to know what could possibly break that fast on the bike. Did they send him out there with an old clutch?
Almost no way it could have been a clutch that early unless it was installed incorrectly to begin with. I suppose that is possible.
I would think a recluse auto clutch for the mud would have been a better choice? Seems to work good for all the GNCC guys, who race in the mud for 3hrs straight… or is it a question of too much torque & HP out of the modified 250”s, the clutches cannot handle? Just spitballing here… we don’t even know if it was the clutch that failed…. Here is another analogy… in this 4t world, we’re told to not use the clutch as much…yet when you go to a National or an SX like last nite, all you smell is burned up clutch’s…. All I know is, when I”m riding by myself I can stay off the clutch pretty good, but soon as I get into a race battle, I”m on the clutch just like my 2 strokes😂…
Its only one race. And who knows who else will have a bad night. There could be another mud race or who knows. But It will be harder for him to get the title now for sure. Just about every brand had some sort of issue in that crazy mud.
A friend of mine that was/is a local pro used to be able to smoke a clutch in a Honda after doing a start and the first turn. If He used aftermarket plates they were just enough thinner that they slipped and got destroyed VERY fast. I doubt that HRC would have had an issue like that. But they could have had a plate break. A defective friction plate falling apart would do that pretty quickly. That same rider I know had a brand new 100% stock RM 125 that had a couple fiber's fall apart in the first 20 minutes of riding the bike. And that was in much better conditions. He had just gotten the bike after his previous RM125 was slipping out of gear very often. When the new RM broke so quickly he was about to go trade it in and get a Honda. But kept it after seeing it was just a plate.
Might just have been some bad luck , sometimes You get a bad part. Its another reason the perfect seasons are so impressive when a rider has one. Whatever it was , it looked to be clutch/trans related in some way. Doubt they will get too specific with what they say officially. But maybe Pulp or somebody will get some sort of leaked info.
In situations when the clutch is abused a lot would oil make a difference? Conventional versus synthetic? I know some oils can cause clutch issues/slippage but do current racers ever use just conventional oil?
