During a recent practice session, Liqui Moly Factory Beta Supercross rider Colt Nichols sustained a rotator cuff injury, which will see him miss some time at the start of the 2024 AMA Supercross season.
Nichols, was putting in practice laps in preparation for the upcoming Supercross season when the incident occurred. This setback comes right before Beta Motorcycle Supercross debut. Nichols and his team are fully committed to a thorough rehabilitation process to ensure a complete and successful recovery.
Nichols expressed his disappointment, saying, "I’m very disheartened to be missing the season opener at Anaheim 1 this weekend and the debut on my new BETA 450 RX. I’m doing everything I can to heal up so I can get back on the gate, hopefully see you guys soon."
John Short has been tapped to fill in while Colt Nichols is recovering. Short has two top-ten 450 motocross finishes in his career, as well as eight top-ten finishes in 250SX East championship. Short said, "I’m eager to be a part of Beta's first Supercross experience and to meet some new people along the way. I’m very thankful for the opportunity and thankful for all of my sponsors who are supporting my 2024 race program and allowing me to jump on with Beta at Anaheim while Colt is healing up."

Worst possible outcome for Beta and Colt. Yea he can come back mid season when others are out and get good results, but it’s so hard to miss the pace this early and keep up. I am bummed for them all.

It may sound shit but I'm stoked for John Short getting this opportunity.
I first met John at Ironman 2019 when his bike and himself flew over the fence into the mechanics area taking Will Christensen and myself out....and the mechanics TV...
Look like a tough bike to ride in SX. She look huge.
I’d assume Benny will make the main. He made 11 or 12 last year and missed a handful of races due to injury.
That's a big bummer. Hopefully we still see Benny put that Beta in the main!
LOL Beta chapter 11 would also rank higher since we are keeping track.
Stuff like losing you tier 1 rider right before the debut of your new team/bike is how this all starts… but yes. I’d rank that higher as well. Lol.
Colt and Masterpool already. Man that is a tough spot for sure for both guys.
That's it, inflatable bubbles for all riders!! I hate seeing people get hurt man....Colt is a stand up dude too. I was stoked to see this new brand and what it could do.

Sounds like there’s been some growing pains with the bike. Electrical issues with it shutting off and frame cracking issues.

Hope he heals up quick but this is like someone reporting that water is wet.
I have nothing against Short, but can’t help but think Mosiman would have been a better choice if he’s healed up and been training…

Sucks that with all the effort they put into launching a new team, they only have about a 50/50 chance of getting a rider into the main event at this point.
Benny is fast, he should get into the main.
I hope so, but he’s still developing a new bike, so he has a bit of a handicap at this point in the year. There will be a bunch of fast dudes not making the 450 main tomorrow night.
